UAZ hunter diesel technical specifications. Engine UAZ Hunter petrol, diesel UAZ Hunter technical specifications. UAZ hunter diesel. UAZ Hunter diesel: owner reviews

UAZ Hunter engine, which you see in the photo in our article, is installed from the Patriot model. What gasoline, what diesel engines at UAZ Hunter exactly the same as Patriot. The 2.7-liter gasoline engine produces 128 hp, the 2.3-liter diesel engine produces a little less, only 114 horses, but the torque level of the diesel engine is not comparable. Today we will tell you in detail about the design and characteristics of UAZ Hunter engines.

Gasoline engine UAZ Hunter ZMZ-409, this is a 4-cylinder, 16-valve, in-line, with an integrated microprocessor fuel injection control system. Fuel injection is carried out into the intake pipe. An ignition system with coils that supply current to spark plugs screwed vertically into the center of the combustion chambers. There are even special wells in the cylinder head cover for this purpose. Microprocessor system with electronic unit engine control, automatically controls the ignition timing.

Cylinder block power unit UAZ Hunter is cast from cast iron, the cylinder head is aluminum, with two camshafts and hydraulic valve compensators. Timing chain drive. At the same time, the chain device of the gas distribution mechanism of the Hunter engine is very complex, since it consists of two chains connected through an intermediate shaft. Plus there are two hydraulic chain tensioners with sprockets. This whole structure is weak point of the entire engine, since insufficient tension and failure of the hydraulic tensioner lead to increased operating noise of the UAZ engine. In addition, hydraulic compensators often fail, which leads to knocking in the valve mechanism.

U diesel unit Hunter, like its gasoline counterpart, with the same design as Patriot engines, has higher fuel consumption figures, but maximum speed below. This can be explained design features UAZ Hunter himself.

In 1972 from the Ulyanovsk assembly line automobile plant The legendary “Kozlik”, an SUV marked UAZ-469, rolled out. Initially, it was positioned as a vehicle for military purposes, but later a civilian version was also released. The popularity of this model was due only to its positive quality, but the most serious – high cross-country ability.

The fact that the model turned out to be successful in its own way is evidenced by the fact that its subsequent generation, the UAZ-3151, did not have significant design modifications. This car remained the same rough, without any hint of comfort. But its phenomenal cross-country ability brightened up all the hardships.

The second generation, and now the last, was the model called UAZ “Hunter”, released in 2003. And although the usual digital index of the version was replaced with an English word, it is still the same “Kozlik”, albeit somewhat modified to suit current realities.

Note that this series of SUVs will no longer have a continuation, and the “Hunter” is the final model. Next, let's look at what the latest generation of the legendary SUV is.

Types of bodies, overall dimensions

Let's start with the body and dimensions of this car. Like the previous model, this SUV was available in two body styles. The main one was a 5-door station wagon with a hard metal top. The Hunter is also available in a station wagon-phaeton body, with a removable canvas top stretched over dismantled arches.

Judging in general, “Hunter” has no innovations other than the name and some minor elements. And since no changes were made to the design part, the dimensions of the SUV remained almost the same as those of the 3151 model.

The length of the “Hunter” is 4.1 m, the width (with folded mirrors) is 2.01 m, and the height is 2.025 m. The main advantage of this SUV is ground clearance, which is equal to 210 mm.

Exterior

Let's take a look at the exterior of the car, which has remained virtually unchanged since the time of the 469 model. All the same cubic chopped shapes and complete minimalism. But this is one of the advantages of the car. It is, after all, designed to move where you can’t get to with other SUVs. And there is no need for extra elements on the body for this.

The appearance of the car has long been familiar. All the same two horizontal bars with wide stripes rounded at the edges, acting as a radiator grille, round protruding headlights below which the fog lights are located. Interestingly, there are no turn signals in front at all; they are on the side near windshield. The bumper also remained unchanged - a regular stamped beam with hooks on top. And most importantly - no plastic.

The part of the body reserved for the interior is shaped like a glazed box. The only noteworthy thing about the side of the car is the protruding body stamping that forms the wheel arches. Nobody hid the door curtains; they remained outside the body. But here there is already finishing plastic, which is used on the door handles and as the housing of the side mirrors.

The rear of the car is vertical. The 5th door is a folding door, it consists of two parts and the spare wheel is attached to the lower one. The rear lighting equipment is very simple and consists of two vertical headlights that combine brake lights and turn signals.

In general, the exterior of the car is very simple and without any frills. But such minimalism is often only a plus, especially for lovers of all kinds of tuning.

Interior

Hunter's interior matches appearance– Spartan and no hint of comfort. But the designers have at least slightly redesigned the seats, increasing their comfort, and also equipping the rear row with headrests. By the way, it is separate.

Unlike previous models, the front panel of the Hunter is trimmed with plastic. The main place on it, and the central one, is reserved for the instrument panel. All information sensors on it are round, analog, located in a row, which determines such dimensions of the tidy. Below the sensors there is a block of functional keys.

There is no center console as such. Instead, there is an opening with visible electrical wiring and air ducts of the heating system.

Even though the Hunter appeared in 2003, they never got around to installing power windows in the doors. Instead, there is split glass, and if the driver wants to ventilate the interior, he needs to move one of the glass halves to the side.

The transmission of this car is controlled using two levers coming from the central tunnel. One of them is controlled by the gearbox, and the second - transfer case. That's all the interior equipment.

Specifications

Let's move on to the technical part. Since its appearance, the Hunter, like its predecessors, has only had a gasoline power plant. At first, a 2.9-liter unit with a power of 104 hp was used. With. Later, this installation was replaced with an engine from the Patriot, the main characteristics of which are: volume - 2.7 liters, power - 128 hp.

UAZ "Hunter" - diesel
1) Initially, the car was offered a Polish 8-valve Andoria unit with a volume of 2.4 liters, generating 86 “horses” at 4000 rpm and 183 Nm of peak thrust at 1800 rpm.
2) In 2005, it was replaced by the domestic 2.2-liter ZMZ-51432 engine with a 16-valve timing belt, developing 114 forces at 3500 rpm and 270 Nm at 1800-2800 rpm.
3) And finally, the Chinese version of the 2.2-liter F-Diesel 4JB1T was installed on the Hunter, the output of which is 92 horsepower at 3600 rpm and 200 Nm at 2000 rpm.

Later than everyone else, the diesel version of the “Hunter” appeared with a 2.2-liter engine from the same “Patriot”, which produces 98 hp. With. Now models with such an engine can only be purchased secondhand.

The SUV's transmission consists of a 5-speed manual transmission and a 2-speed transfer case. The Hunter's wheel arrangement is 4x4, but front axle– switchable.

Speed is clearly not this SUV's element. Its maximum speed is 130 km/h – the petrol version. Diesel is inferior to this indicator by 10 km/h. About dynamic characteristics there’s nothing to say at all.

The Hunter's high cross-country ability also requires good fuel consumption. So, the gasoline model consumes 13.5 liters on average, the UAZ “Hunter” diesel “eats” less, but not by much, average consumption it has 10.1 liters. Note that these are indicators when driving on a paved road. Off-road consumption will increase significantly.

Options and cost

The UAZ “Hunter” is no longer produced, although dealers still have new models of this SUV, without mileage, and even in several trim levels. It’s just that there are configurations, but no optional equipment as such. For example, the basic model, called “Classic”, is equipped with:

  1. Hyundai gearbox;
  2. Alloy wheels;
  3. Metallic paint.

UAZ "Hunter" in the "Trophy" configuration

The top-end configuration – “Trophy”, in addition to the described options, has protection for steering rods and transmission units; cars with it are also available in a special color and with exclusive wheels. That's where all the options ended.

It is worth mentioning the special “Victory” series of “Hunter”, which ended the production of this SUV. It was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory, thanks to which the car received some special options - army paint with airbrushing of musical notes (the distinctive sign of the Maestro from the film “Only Old Men Go to Battle”), as well as a souvenir set consisting of a raincoat, an entrenching tool and pot.

Another indisputable advantage of this car, along with cross-country ability, is its low cost. And although the production of “Hunter” has already been stopped, you can still buy a new SUV, albeit only with a gasoline engine.

The basic version of the Hunter with an all-metal body will cost the buyer only 469,000 rubles. The model with the “Trophy” package costs RUB 529,900. The special “Victory” series SUV will cost the same.

Any SUV must have powerful engine with good traction to cope with off-road driving conditions and rough terrain. What kind of engine does the manufacturer equip? domestic SUV Hunter?

UAZ Hunter engines

The UAZ company decided not to produce new model power plant, but took the old, already well-proven 409 engine from the Patriot and installed it on the UAZ Hunter.

Since 2003, the SUV has been equipped with a 2.2-liter power plant, but not so long ago it was decided to abandon it. Now the 2018 UAZ Hunter is equipped with a modernized (new) 409 gasoline engine with a volume of 2.7 liters. In addition, drivers were offered good alternative, also releasing a version with a 2.3-liter diesel power plant.

In this article we will try to understand these engines in detail and highlight all the advantages and disadvantages. We will also try to answer which engine is better to install in the UAZ Hunter.

UAZ Hunter: petrol engine ZMZ-409

The displacement of this power plant, as mentioned above, is an impressive 2.7 liters. The maximum power that it is capable of delivering is a little bit 128 horsepower.

ZMZ-409 will feel great if it is fueled with an inexpensive brand of A-92 fuel. By comparison, all foreign SUVs require A-95.

The UAZ Hunter with this engine is capable of reaching only 130 km/h on the highway - a relatively low figure, what can we say. As for the acceleration time to its first 100 km/h, the numbers are really funny - Hunter can do it in no less than 35 seconds. Fuel consumption on the highway reaches just over 13 liters. The manufacturer did not indicate how much he uses while driving over rough terrain.

What is the main advantage of the ZMZ-409? It has excellent traction, making this SUV an ideal workhorse that can go anywhere and carry a huge load.

The design features of this power plant are at the same time small drawback. The fact is that the hydraulic tensioner quite often fails, and coupled with weak tension, this leads to noise when the engine is running. Hydraulic compensators are also not reliable, and therefore require frequent replacement. Fortunately, Hunter parts are very easy to find and don't cost much.

UAZ Hunter: diesel

The diesel power plant has a smaller displacement - only 2.2 liters, but has a number of other advantages over the gasoline one. Firstly, it has much better torque, which is almost irreplaceable when driving over rough terrain. Secondly, it has significantly higher environmental and fuel efficiency indicators.

It also produces less power - 114 horsepower, but at the same time it needs only 10.5 liters when driving on the highway, which is as much as 3 liters less than a gasoline one.

Replacing the UAZ Hunter engine

When is it necessary to repair or replace the power plant on a UAZ Hunter? First of all, when the first signs of its malfunction appear. The first such signal may be noise during its operation - this most often happens with gasoline engines; diesel looks much better in this regard.

The replacement procedure itself is very complex and requires a lot of skills, and therefore it is best to carry it out in a specialized service center, where specialists work.

You can also find out more about the replacement in the following video:

Bottom line: which engine is better?

The findings were mixed. Since gasoline has a large displacement and has high power, it copes well with the transportation of goods, turning into a real workhorse. On the other hand, it requires more fuel and is more susceptible to breakdowns.

A diesel engine has better torque and consumes less fuel. At the same time, its power is lower, and therefore it cannot withstand high loads.

Greetings everyone!

So I decided to write a review about my company car.

In our company, the time has come to replace the decrepit Nivas with something new. Operation of Niv has shown that it is not suitable for such difficult conditions: 80% primer, 20% asphalt. In general, we purchased UAZ vehicles. When the cars were distributed, I was on a business trip, so I received the latest one.

So, UAZ Hunter 31514348 diesel, volume between 2.2 and 2.3 with durbon supercharging, about 100 horses, I don’t remember exactly, in different instructions indicated differently. It stands and sparkles in metallic green, with luxury seats, like some kind of Gelendevagen. With foglights, power steering, headlight range control and even a cigarette lighter! It really doesn’t start, I don’t think anyone took such a handsome guy. In general, a week later they rolled out from repairs. All fuel system was filled with some kind of rubbish. And at the same time they extended it and lubricated it. When I was cleaning the cabin, tearing off the plastic, I found a piece of iron under the seat, scratched the back of my head and threw it back.

First impressions - armored car! Controllability... if you can call it that. In general, you turn the steering wheel, the UAZ first rolls, then thinks, then turns. It feels like there is no direct connection with the wheels, the reactions are “rubbery”. Then I got used to it, I just need to perform the maneuver with anticipation. It also took a long time to get used to the brakes, or rather to the brake pedal. You look for her in her usual place, and she is somewhere above. I liked the gearbox, the shifting is clear, like on the Niva. It turned out that the box was Korean. In general, the transmission, suspension - everything is like the Patriot. But the clutch is oak, I still haven’t gotten used to it. It goes well over rough terrain, the energy intensity of the suspension is very high. Cross-country ability is limited all-season tires. IN general car For real men, as a simulator, it’s good that there is a hydraulic booster.

After about 500 km, the transfer case crunches when you drive under tension. low revs. It turned out that there was nothing wrong with it - as they say, everyone has no defect. At first I got stuck in the mud in the steppe. The front end does not turn on, it turned out that the whole problem is in the switch on the left wheel. Either they were lubricated, or they were assembled incorrectly at the factory. In general, I took it apart right in the mud, assembled it and drove off. After 2 months All the paint on the frame, bridges and suspension parts was peeling off as if it was never there. At the 6th thousand, the pads of the front left wheel were completely worn out. We took it apart and looked - everything is normal, the caliper doesn’t jam, we installed new pads and that’s it, they still work. 7 thousand - the hydraulic booster leaked, they didn’t touch it, they just added oil, after a month the leak stopped.

There was a dull knock in the right front wheel. We searched everywhere, found nothing. It turned out that the battery was not secured and was jumping. I immediately remembered the piece of hardware under the seat... it turned out to be a battery mount. At 12 thousand, the cooling fan clutch fell apart. At 20 thousand it buzzed rear axle, replaced. The rear springs constantly break (the trunk is full of equipment). The transfer case always kicks out a gear in low gear. Only diesel saves with high-torque power; reduced torque is almost unnecessary.

There are no comments on the engine itself. The engine is not very noisy, quite playful and high-torque. Fuel equipment, starter, generator - everything is BOSHevsky. In frost below 20 degrees. It's useless to start. Burned out at 30 thousand fuel pump. At the 40th thousand, the rear axle began to hum again, does it have such a service life, or what? IN at the moment the body also began to peel around the door handles and sills, the wheels became red. I put the spare tire in the trunk immediately, and the door opens on bumps. The whole body rattles like a tin can.

Yes, I understand that harsh operating conditions, etc. But this is what the machine was created for! What did they pay 16,000 thousand USD for? Spare parts are very expensive, just one fuel filter costs 100 USD because it comes with a heater. At the moment, 2 UAZ vehicles are already standing without spare parts. They can’t find the piston for one (the engine was killed). Another head gasket. They say that the plant no longer produces such machines, it is an experimental batch. There are no specific statistics; everyone breaks down differently. Yes, I almost forgot - fuel consumption is very low. Well, that's all.

What is a “rogue” without a diesel engine? Misunderstanding. Crawling through mud or sand, making your way through the forest with a gasoline engine is awkward. The manufacturer has been looking for a worthy UAZ for many years power plant. But everything is somehow awkward. Another thing.

GRANT'S CHILDREN

First there was the Polish supercharged diesel Andoria: 2.4 liters, 86 horsepower - remember? Not a bad engine, based on an English one, but expensive. They would buy it if there were spare parts for it. It was replaced in 2005 by our miracle - the diesel ZMZ-514. There are spare parts everywhere, inexpensive generators, starters, clutches, power unit mounts, injectors, and also a well-developed network of stations. Great! But the trouble is, the diesel engine broke down in the hands of the “collective farmers”.

It overheated a little and the head went away. Once a week I didn’t look under the bottom - I said goodbye to the power unit supports, held high revs- broke the belt, bent the valves... God forbid pulling the trailer and loading it more tightly: the diesel engine will crush the liners!

I don’t blame the designers: they solved the task handed down from above to build from gasoline engine ZMZ‑406 diesel. But it is impossible to do this efficiently. Let's say, to get the same characteristics as a gasoline engine, the crankshaft will have to be loaded one and a half times more. This means that you need to increase the diameter and length of the necks, otherwise the liners will flatten. It would also be nice to increase the radius of the crank, because a diesel engine is a torque engine. But where? The block is already there, the “knee” too. Get ZMZ-514 - a complete compromise.

Such an engine would suit a light car, for example a Niva, but the guys from Togliatti are looking for a pair with pedigree. Therefore, experienced jeepers who own the 514 treat it extremely gently. They even remove the iron roof and seats to make life easier for the Trans-Volga diesel engine.

NEIGHBORHOOD

However, off-road people are not used to moaning and began to look for an alternative to diesel. The Ulyanovsk company Dartech sent messengers to neighboring China, where there is a large enterprise: it ships 500 thousand licensed diesel engines per year to the foreign and domestic markets, including Isuzu.

We ordered a sample - a 92-horsepower supercharged “four” F-Diesel 4JB1T. They disassembled, measured and found it suitable for installation on a UAZ. We adapted all the engine sensors to work with control devices, adjusted the power unit mounts and handed over the drawings to the Chinese to make an adapter plate for our gearbox and clutch.

The diesel passed the tests confidently. They tested both in everyday life and in very harsh conditions - “based on” the popular trophy raids in the Ulyanovsk province, in which you have to drive fast, but up to your ears in mud and with a winch. At the finish line, the time was no worse than that of the combat vehicles.

After Dartech, he launched a small series of UAZs - from the "loaf" to the "Patriot" - with such engines.

SLOW BUT SURE

I tested the car while driving. The work history of a hard-working diesel engine cannot be hidden. You need to operate the gearbox lever quickly and feel the edge of the thrust at each step. But you get used to it right away. The pace in the city is at a level that is not inferior to passenger cars in the capital of the province. In fifth gear I can move without strain at sixty, and accelerate to one hundred and twenty without squinting. Pulls! The clutch is a little tight, but it works smoothly, you can forget about easing the throttle. Therefore, maneuvering in a parking lot with this diesel engine is as easy as with an automatic transmission.

In the forest distances, the UAZ is like an elk. He breaks through the thicket and rides where it’s scary to tread.

We got into the forest at the beginning of winter and ran into a rut that had not yet frozen. “Turn it down and you don’t even have to gas,” my companion, a company engineer, advised me. It’s scary: if we rush in without accelerating, we’ll get up and drown. Climbing behind a winch cable into a dirty slurry of snow and ice is not a pleasant prospect: your feet are wearing boots with thin soles. Yes, there is nowhere to go - I plunge into the swamp. The heart skips a beat, but quickly goes away. The engine, snoring richly at two thousand, pulls confidently. The wheels break the ice, manage to catch something in the mud, and the car crawls along the ruts as if nothing had happened. The shoes remained clean... This would not have worked with gasoline.

IS IT WORTH IT?

During the year, Dartech produced more than two dozen cars with F-Diesel engines. There were no complaints from the owners. They say that even in Japan, in Hokkaido, such a car is driven and the owner is quite pleased with himself. The price of a UAZ-Hunter with a Chinese engine is 650 thousand rubles. Expensive? Perhaps. After all, a factory UAZ with a gasoline engine costs only 400 thousand, with a diesel engine - 450 thousand. With a diesel fuel consumption of 8 liters per hundred, the savings on fuel will pay off the overpayment of 250 thousand rubles only after 90 thousand kilometers. But with a gasoline engine you cannot get the off-road qualities that a diesel engine provides.
