There have been no global changes in the design of the chassis, except for further modernization work. Front and rear - double wishbone suspension, characterized by high comfort. As in previous generations, the Tourer V modification has a modernized sports suspension with floating upper arm silent blocks, a lower stiffener brace, and enlarged brake calipers.

Even in the basic configuration, the car was equipped with both front airbags, belts with tension limiters, child seat anchors, ABS system(anti-lock brake system). Each member of the Cressida family had different features: Chaser was adapted to sport driving, Cresta to luxury, and the Mark II was the main model of the range, although the cars differed mainly in the front and rear (plus doors for the Cresta). Both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions of the sedan were produced. The range of engines installed on this car varied from the modest 4S-FE (1.8 l, 125 hp) to 1JZ-GTE (2.5 twin-turbo, 280 hp)

Sixth generation

At the end of 1996, the last generation of cars under the Chaser brand in the X100 body was released for sale. The engine range has not undergone dramatic changes, however, all engines of the JZ modification acquired a VVT-i and ETCS valve timing system. After some time, the 1G-FE with 140 hp was replaced. 1G-FE BEAMS arrived with 160 hp. In 1998, the model was restyled; changes have been made: front and rear bumpers, fog lights, headlights received standard xenon low-beam headlights with electronic light control in the cabin, radiator grille, rear brake lights, turn indicators, dashboard and some interior elements. Versions with naturally aspirated engines of 2.5 and 3 liters were offered to customers only with automatic transmission.

As in the previous generation, the Tourer V modification has been preserved, a sports suspension with floating silent blocks of the lower arm, a lower stiffener strut, enlarged brake calipers, and a screen protecting the brake disc. Torsen (locking with worm gears) is an option for cars with automatic transmission and basic for versions with manual transmission. Unlike the similar model in the X90 body, the X100 was equipped with a 1JZ-GTE engine with one larger ceramic turbine (CT15) and a variable valve timing system (VVT-i). All cars in the Tourer V configuration were offered to consumers with xenon low-beam headlights and 16-inch alloy wheels rims. Also included as standard is traction control. TRC system and VSC.

Around the world, the Tourer V modification (X90 and X100) has gained great popularity among people involved in car improvement (tuning), thanks to the enormous potential hidden in the 1JZ-GTE engine. The development of improved options is carried out both by the official division of Toyota - TRD, and by many independent private studios. Advanced components produce such well-known companies like TRD, HKS, Blitz, A’PEXi, Tein, etc. In Russia this model has become most widespread in two types of motor sports: races at 402 m (drag racing) and high-speed cornering in a skid (drifting). In the first case, the car is optimally suited, thanks to the very high potential of the engine (up to 500 hp on a standard piston engine). In the second - thanks to the presence rear wheel drive with locking (Torsen); For professional modifications of cars, designers use the most stringent types of locking 1.5-2 way. A Tourer S modification (X90 and X100) was also produced, which featured the suspension from the Tourer V, with a 2.5-liter 1JZ-GE engine and modified fuel injection. The Tourer S package in the X100 body had before restyling automatic transmission with 4 stages, after restyling it received a modernized automatic transmission.
