But if appearance is a matter of taste, then Infiniti definitely has problems with geometric cross-country ability. In particular, his ground clearance is only 184 millimeters - such figures are unlikely to allow you to overcome deep ruts and even a high curb can become an insurmountable obstacle for the “Japanese”.

If we talk about it, it also retained the features of its predecessor, while its design reached a fundamentally different level and the Bavarian car looks very avant-garde, but at the same time respectable and strict.

The all-LED headlight optics with arcuate daytime running lights catches your eye. running lights, low body kit, massive bumpers, huge exhaust pipes and rear spoiler.

With all this, despite the clear emphasis of the exterior towards sportiness, the crossover’s ground clearance is quite an impressive 214 millimeters. Therefore on light off-road he certainly won't save.

Luxurious in terms of finishing materials, well assembled and ergonomic. However, its design may seem conservative and outdated to many.

This is especially noticeable in dashboard. It has a beautiful bluish backlight of the indicators, but the display on-board computer lacks high-quality animation and is not very informative.

The large monitor of the multimedia and entertainment complex does not have touch controls - all commands go through the block keys. On the one hand, it is convenient, on the other hand, it is archaic. The climate control is also controlled through buttons, and finally, analog chronometers are installed on the console - obviously as a tribute to traditions, from which the Japanese stubbornly refuse to deviate.

The driver's seat with powerful lateral support bolsters has a calibrated profile and multiple adjustments. It will fit any driver’s build and will securely hold it in place during overloads.

As for the rear sofa, its width can accommodate up to three people, but there is little room in the legs and head even with a height of 180 centimeters, so only the tallest people will be at ease.

The interior of the BMW X5 is, without a doubt, more modern and modeled in a somewhat youthful style. At the same time, it is very cozy and has a background LED backlight, calm color scheme neutral tones.

The virtual “toolkit” fascinates with colorful readings with very high level animation elaboration, excessive information content. At the same time, it is easy to read and does not glare even on a very sunny day.

Multimedia has voice, analog (using a joystick on the tunnel), touch control. In addition, you can give commands to the system using gestures. However, doing this is not very convenient even while standing still, because the iDrive interface is too complicated.

The driver can sit comfortably in his seat and will certainly praise the seating geometry, wide ranges settings. But during active driving, there is no longer such tenacity as the Infinity seat. The rear gallery is optimal for accommodating two people up to 190 centimeters tall, but a third person may complain about tightness in the shoulders.

On the move

The Infiniti QX70 hides a high-revving naturally aspirated 3.7-liter engine under the hood. Its power is 333 horsepower is implemented on all four wheels through a seven-speed automatic transmission.

The engine has juicy traction throughout the entire speed range, but the feeling of dynamics is somewhat smoothed out automatic transmission with long gear ratio. At the same time, it changes steps very quickly and smoothly, without in any way disturbing the smooth running of the car.

The steering of the crossover is informative and quite responsive. On a straight line, the model drives stably, but in corners, despite minor body roll, it has a tendency to oversteer, which can frighten an inexperienced driver.

The suspension is short-travel and rigid. It transmits the slightest defects in the road surface to the riders, so you won’t be able to relax on the trip.

The BMW X5 has at its disposal a three-liter turbo engine with an output of 340 horsepower. It is combined with 8 automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

The dynamics of the Bavarian crossover are noticeably better compared to the Japanese one. The supercharged power unit also has excellent traction throughout the entire rev range, but here it manifests itself brighter and more unbridled, which, coupled with the transmission’s closely spaced gears, allows it to quickly pick up speed.

The car is driven very enthusiastically and the point here is not only in the very sharp steering, the absence of rolls and sway, but also in the neutral steering in turns - the X5, even at the limit, maintains understandable behavior and allows you to fully control the situation, avoiding dangerous situations.

At the same time, the suspension provides a minimum of shaking on small and medium-sized bumps, providing the ability to confidently rush along imperfect road surfaces.

Options and prices

The following variations are available for the Infiniti QX70: Premium + NAVI, Sport + NAVI, Hi-tech Black quartz. The initial cost of a crossover with a 3.7-liter engine is 3 million 70 thousand rubles.

As for the BMW X5, it is available in the following versions: 40i, 40iXLine, 40i M Sport. The most affordable version of the supercharged 3.0 liter will cost 4 million 760 thousand rubles.

When choosing a powerful and fast crossover for active driving, many people first of all set their sights on the BMW X5. But don’t think that there is no worthy alternative. The Infiniti FX is a serious and very strong competitor.

The rivalry between these models can be compared to a fight between two boxers: the first fighter is already aged, but very experienced, the second is young, healthy and self-confident. It is difficult to predict the outcome of their battle... So the BMW X5, with its classic and carefully calibrated design, looks less advantageous against the backdrop of the emphatically aggressive and predatory Infiniti FX. The latter is more reminiscent of a sports coupe, raised high above the ground on huge wheels, than an SUV or crossover. With its entire appearance, the FX makes you doubt whether the X5 is really better, faster and more powerful.

Weighty arguments

The first and very significant advantage of the Infiniti FX is its more affordable market price. If we compare cars of the same years of manufacture and with similar engines, then the X-5 is on average $5-10 thousand more expensive than its competitor. And for approximately the same money you can buy either an older X5 or an FX, which is much “fresher” in years.
Another advantage of the “Ef X” is that it is “stuffed” with options that cannot be found in a competitor. For example, there is a rear view camera, a trunk lid closer, many cars are equipped with a folding overhead display, radar cruise control that maintains the distance to the vehicle in front, and for convenience, when the ignition is turned off, the seat and steering wheel move apart, freeing up more space.
The X5 is also capable of surprising - the ignition key has a built-in microchip that stores in “memory” all the information about the car and the settings of each driver (position of the seats, steering wheel and mirrors), backrests rear seats in expensive versions of the X-V they are equipped with servos; an overhead display was offered as an additional option (less common than on the FX).

So, after several years of operation, the plastic clamps of the cooling system hoses may become less elastic, so it may lose its tightness, which leads to engine overheating. In addition, on V-shaped engines, problems occurred with the generator, which is mounted in the cylinder block and cooled with antifreeze. Physically aging o-rings lose their tightness, so every time you service the “middle-aged” X5, you need to inspect the installation site of the generator.

The throttle body of FX engines will need cleaning over time, after which it will be electronic unit control requires adaptation, which is carried out using a special service device. If you don't do this, it will break normal operation motor.

All four wheels

All-wheel drive is different for these models. The FX35 is more dynamic than most modifications of the X5 and is noticeably inferior only to its flagship versions 4.6 l and 4.8 l - 7.1 s to “hundreds” versus 6.5 s and 6.1 s, respectively.

Which one is more reliable?

Both cars are very similar in character - their suspensions are rigid and short-travel, steering- sharp, brakes - powerful. Thanks to such settings, they give owners true pleasure from dynamic driving.

At the same time, when buying a used car, it is much more important to know the life of the chassis. The best in this regard is FX. For example, its front aluminum levers can withstand a mileage of 120-150 thousand km, while the rear ones last much longer - mechanics only had to change them in case of accidents. X5 has silent blocks of levers and ball joints can last 40-80 thousand km, and rear suspension arms - about 100 thousand km. At the same time, both suspensions on the FX are more expensive to maintain - all the “consumables” are changed along with the levers, but in the front suspension of the “X-5” the “consumables” can be replaced separately. At some service stations they can also change the “rubber bands” of the lower arm of the rear suspension separately. Weak point“running” FX - wheel rim mounting studs - when unscrewing the nuts they often break.

The X5 has springs in front, and in the rear on most cars there is an air suspension that maintains a given ground clearance regardless of the load. Pneumatic elements are durable, but they don’t like it when the car is overloaded. The FX has an unpretentious spring suspension front and rear.

The steering is more reliable in the X5. On the FX, by 100 thousand km, the steering column cross may break, and the rack seals begin to “sweat,” although no serious lubricant leaks have been noted.
