My review of the Hyundai Santa Fe 2 2.2 diesel

Today we’ll talk about the second model of Santa, and to be more precise, we’ll listen to reviews of the Hyundai Santa Fe 2 2.2 diesel. We’ll find out what kind of car it is, what’s good about it, and what’s not so good, and we’ll just get the opinion of one of the owners of this car.

I chose the car for a long time, looked different reviews, video on the Internet, compared technical specifications with other similar cars

  1. Nissan X-Trail
  2. Pathfinder
  3. VW Tiguan
  4. And even a Hyundai Mojave

But in the end I came to the conclusion that in terms of maintenance and fuel consumption Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 CRDi 4WD will be preferable exactly to my needs, large, wide, huge trunk, plug-in rear axle up to 40 km/h, all this completely suited me.

I mostly travel around town and country roads V summer time, rarely in rural deep mud, maybe 15 times a year, give or take.

I took a 2nd generation Hyundai Santa Fe car from one of the showrooms for a drive test, I really liked everything, it drives briskly, I don’t need floor-length slippers since I drive calmly and very steadily, I mostly drive my family. I liked the hydraulic booster, it’s not too weak and not too loaded, it makes you feel the strength of the car very well. I took a manual transmission, I just got used to it and that’s it, I have nothing against automatic transmissions, except maybe increased consumption fuel. But they switch very smoothly and in most cases modern cars care for up to 100 thousand kilometers without any maintenance.

Hyundai Santa Fe 2 2.2 diesel owner review

To some, the Santa Fe may seem rustic both inside and out, but I don’t need to go to exhibitions, my priority is reliability and functionality. Anyone who remembers the first Santa Fe understands what a reliable car is.

On average, the fuel consumption of a Hyundai Santa Fe 2 on the highway is 8 liters in the city - 10, this is on a 2.2 CRDi engine, let's, by the way, give a breakdown of CRDi, since I myself didn’t really know this until I purchased this car.

CRDi is an abbreviation that literally means Common Rail Direct Injection, which in translation can be roughly interpreted as direct fuel injection into the highway.

The meaning of this system is that it provides constant independent pressure throughout the entire fuel supply system, regardless of the crankshaft rotation speed. While in the most common injector, diesel fuel is supplied to the injectors at the lowest pressure.

It turned out that in Common Rail Direct Injection or CRDi the injection process was divided into two stages:

  • The first is responsible for creating and maintaining constant pressure
  • The second is the injection process itself.

The use of this technology provides advantages both in terms of ecology and in reducing fuel consumption by up to 25%.

The Hyundai Santa Fe 2 2.2 engine produces 150 horses, which is not at all weak for a diesel engine, here are other characteristics of this crossover:

I read a lot of reviews of the Hyundai Santa Fe 2 2.2 diesel in my configuration, I noticed both negativity and delight. On the negative side, I noticed that they often complain about diesel engines, but this is most likely due to the quality of our diesel fuel, especially since CRDi is demanding in this matter. But, nevertheless, I know several in my city quality gas stations, time-tested, so I didn’t give up diesel. And here it is.

Hyundai Santa Fe 2 owner reviews diesel

If I often traveled long distances or made frequent trips outside my city, then I would also take a Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 4WD, but it must be in gasoline. Because changing injectors and pumps is very expensive on a diesel engine, and if you pour in all sorts of crap of unknown origin from an unknown gas station, then you can pump up the entire engine in one gas station and then it’s very easy to pay money for repairs and it’s not a fact that they will also fix it qualitatively.

I repeat once again, I took a diesel engine solely for reasons of economy and the fact that I only drive in the city and know the exact places with high-quality diesel fuel, in other options and under other conditions, I would only take gasoline.

By the way, it is worth noting that the standard sound insulation of the Hyundai Santa Fe is very high quality, in my personal opinion it is simply wonderful and sometimes better than some people who get additional sound insulation for money.

My Hyundai Santa Fe 2 restyling, more precisely 2010, slightly changed appearance compared to 2008 models, but not too significantly.

In this post - reviews of the Hyundai Santa Fe 2 2.2 diesel, I did not specifically pay attention to such things as the radio, speakers, plastic, etc., since this is my review, and my requirements came down solely to the practicality of the car, its size and savings in parts and fuel , well, the presence of an air conditioner for the summer, and a stove that heats in winter, by the way the stove heats very well - in fact, these are all my requirements for this car, it meets them 100%, that’s why I say yes Hyundai Santa Fe 2 this generation great crossover no frills, if you want even more reliability, take it strictly in the gasoline version.

The crossover was created on the Hyundai Sonata platform and was aimed primarily at the US market. The controversial exterior of the first generation Santa Fe did not prevent it from becoming popular and successful.

The model occupies an intermediate position between crossovers (Tucson) and (Veracruz). The first generation Santa Fe went on sale in 2001. The model was available in front- and all-wheel drive versions with manual or automatic transmission.

In 2006, the second generation Hyundai Santa Fe II was introduced. The crossover received a new design and technical stuffing. Throughout the production period, minor innovations were introduced into the car, and in 2010 a large-scale facelift was carried out.

Overall length Hyundai Santa Fe 2 is 4,660 mm, width - 1,890, height - 1,760. Ground clearance is 200 mm, and trunk volume, depending on the position of the seats, can vary from 774 to 1,582 liters.

The design of the first generation Santa Fe was characterized by both journalists and consumers as quite controversial. The second generation of the crossover acquired more classic and simple forms, but, at the same time, began to look richer.

The penultimate facelift of 2010 did not change the appearance of the car much - new bumpers and a false radiator grille are noticeable at first glance. In the exterior of the Hyundai Santa Fe 2 it is difficult to find straight and faceted shapes; smooth curved lines predominate throughout. Classic shapes indicates the designers' desire to give the car an elegant look.

In 2011, Hyundai once again slightly updated the Santa Fe II - the crossover acquired 18-inch wheels with a new design, different bumpers, received different roof rails and fog lamp edging.

The interior of the Santa Fe II can be described as not cheap, but not original either. Among the details that do not copy trends in the class is the design of the instrument panel: indicators are placed in three “rings”, and the diameter of the speedometer scale is larger than the diameter of the tachometer scale. The rest (steering wheel, door cards, center console, seats) is a typical representative of the class.

At the time of sales, the Hyundai Santa Fe 2 was available with two in-line 4-cylinder 16-valve engines - the Theta II 2.4 I4 petrol and the R 2.2 CRDi turbodiesel. The base 2.4-liter petrol unit develops 174 hp. at 6,000 rpm. and maximum torque of 226 Nm at 3,750 rpm.

The diesel engine with a displacement of 2.2 liters produces 197 hp. at 3,800 rpm, and peak torque of 421 Nm is available in the rev range from 1,800 to 2,500 rpm. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission transmission

The crossover was presented to dealers in four trim levels: Base, Comfort, Style and Elegance. Basic Hyundai Santa Fe II with gasoline engine, mechanics and front-wheel drive in the Base configuration was estimated at 1,079,900 rubles.

This version was equipped with front and side airbags, curtain airbags, seat belt pretensioners and active head restraints, ABS, EBD, immobilizer, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control with ionization function, central locking, an audio system with steering wheel controls, fabric seat upholstery and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The all-wheel drive Hyundai Santa Fe 2 with a turbodiesel and automatic transmission in the Elegance+Navi package cost RUB 1,654,900. Its equipment additionally included ESP, xenon headlights with washer and auto-corrector, parking sensors, 8-way electrically adjustable driver's seat, electrically adjustable passenger seat, rear view camera (display in the rear view mirror), keyless entry and an engine start button.

In addition, top Santa version Fe II had a tire pressure monitoring system, a cooled box in the driver's armrest, an electric sunroof, cruise control, a navigation system, a light sensor, leather trim, heat-insulating windshields and front side windows, as well as 18-inch alloy wheels.

In the summer of 2012, the manufacturer presented for Russian market. For some time, both models were sold in parallel, but then the 2nd generation car completely disappeared from dealer showrooms.

Cars with diesel engines are poorly distributed on the local market. This is explained primarily by doubts about their durability due to low-quality fuel. In addition, for many, the operational features are more attractive gasoline engines: wider operating speed range, less noise and vibration, better warm-up in cold conditions. However diesel engines have important advantages, especially for city cars and SUVs: efficiency and high-torque. Crossovers can be classified into both classes, since they have increased passenger cars cross-country ability and are most often used in urban environments. Next, we consider the Hyundai Santa Fe (diesel): reviews, characteristics, features.

Peculiarities

This car is a Korean mid-size crossover. Its first generation, discussed in this article, was produced from 2001 to 2007. in Korea and from 2007 to 2010. in Russia. Its corporate designation is SM. With the release of subsequent generations and the launch of production in Russia in 2007, the car received a prefix to the name Classic. Santa Fe is built on the platform

Story

Over the 7 years of production, the car has undergone five updates.

The first was done in the second year of production of the Hyundai Santa Fe (diesel). Feedback from the owners was the reason for it. Based on this, they increased from 64 to 71 liters fuel tank, changed the console layout and clock placement, and moved the badges on the back door.

User opinions were taken as a basis the following year, during the second update of the Hyundai Santa Fe (diesel). Reviews indicated a lack of illumination for the glove compartment and hood gas struts, which was corrected. In addition, matte automatic transmission control parts were replaced with chrome ones, and new radio on the average configuration with a CD changer on the maximum, a new color was added.

In 2004, the climate control controls for the basic and mid-range configurations were changed, confirmation of blocking was introduced from the remote control, the antenna was moved from rear window in the center of the roof above the rear door.

In 2005, restyling was carried out, affecting the rear bumper, lights, radiator grille, instrument cluster, and sun visors. A switchable airbag and 3-point seat belts were introduced back seat. One color was slightly changed.

In 2006, two colors were replaced with one new one.

Body

Santa Fe has a traditional body for this segment: a 5-door station wagon. Its length is 4.501 m, width - 1.821 or 1.844 m, height - 1.674 m, wheelbase - 2.619 m. The track is 1.54 m front and rear. The weight of a vehicle with a diesel engine, depending on the configuration, is 1,705-1,793 tons.

In Euro NCAP testing, the 2002 Santa Fe diesel received 4 stars for occupant protection and 1 star for pedestrian protection.

Engine

Diesel engine D4EA - one of two available engines for Santa Fe Russian production. This 2 liter power unit is turbocharged and direct injection develops 112 hp. With. at 4000 rpm and 255 Nm at 2000 rpm with a compression ratio of 17.7. The cylinder diameter is 83 mm, the piston chord is 92 mm.

Transmission

The Hyundai Santa Fe Classic (diesel) was equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic transmission with manual mode. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive were available. The last option is represented by a system with a locked viscous coupling without a reduction row. In this case, the drive is considered permanent, since the connection rear wheels occurs when the front wheels slip. In addition, the car has a rear cross-axle

Chassis

  • Santa Fe has front and rear independent double wishbones.
  • The car was equipped with 15- and 16-inch wheels 215/70 or 225/70, respectively.
  • The brakes are disc brakes on all wheels, ventilated on the front wheels.
  • Ground clearance is 188 mm for front-wheel drive and 207 mm for all-wheel drive versions.

Interior

The car has a 5-seater interior with equipment similar to competitors of those years. The basic version included electric windows on all doors, electric and heated mirrors, on-board computer, heated windshield in the wiper area. For maximum configurations Leather interior, climate control, and electrically adjustable front seats were available. The interior dimensions are 1.91 m long, 1.47 m wide, 1.185 m high.

The trunk volume ranges from 850 to 2100 liters.

Ride quality

As is clear from the performance numbers, the car in question is not fast. The specific power at best exceeds 15 kg/l. With. ( front wheel drive, manual transmission) and reaches 16 kg/l. With. for an all-wheel drive Hyundai Santa Fe (diesel) equipped with an automatic transmission. The dynamics characteristics are therefore low. The first variant accelerates to 100 km/h in 14.5 seconds and is capable of reaching 168 km/h. The second modification is slower by 2.5 s and 8 km/h. Fuel consumption for the front-wheel drive version with manual transmission is also lower: 9.3 liters in the city, 6.4 liters outside the city, 7.5 liters in mixed mode. For more severe all-wheel drive vehicle with an automatic, these figures are 11.8, 7.7, 9.2 liters, respectively.

A test drive of the Hyundai Santa Fe (diesel) confirms these data. Thus, avtomarket.ru, when testing an all-wheel drive car with an automatic transmission, noted turbo lag on low revs, since the turbine spins up to 2500 rpm. At the same time, the transmission is configured quite competently so that the dynamics are sufficient in urban conditions. Fuel consumption corresponds to the passport values. When it comes to handling, the Santa Fe is slow and reliable. Off-road, the main advantages of the car are its relatively high ground clearance and durable suspension. System all-wheel drive is not enough for this.

Price

The local market is represented mainly by Hyundai Santa Fe manufactured in Russia. The average price is 400-600 thousand rubles for diesel modifications. There are more expensive and cheaper options depending on the condition.

The second generation of the Santa Fe crossover (a pioneer in the mid-size SUV segment for the Korean manufacturer Hyundai) made its world premiere in January 2006 at the international exhibition in Detroit, and went on sale in April of the same year. In 2010, the debut took place at the Frankfurt Shows updated car, which received a noticeably refreshed appearance, a modernized interior and two new diesel engines under the hood. The “Korean” remained on the assembly line until 2012, when a third-generation model arrived to replace it.

Large, heavy and textured, but not without graceful outlines, the body of the “second Santa Fe” looks interesting and respectable. And if you close the brand emblem, then it can even be mistaken for a much more prestigious model. The powerful appearance of the crossover is emphasized by massive sides with developed “muscles”, a large radiator grille, large rims, predatory “squinted” head optics and a pair of trapezoidal exhaust pipes.

The external dimensions of the 2nd generation Hyundai Santa Fe indicate, as we have already noted, that it belongs to the class of mid-size crossovers: 4660 mm in length, 1890 mm in width and 1760 mm in height. The wheelbase of the car is limited by a 2700 mm gap between the front and rear axles, and ground clearance in the loaded position it is 203 mm.

The interior of the “second” Hyundai Santa Fe not only looks stylish, but also features high functionality and high-quality finishing materials. Directly in front of the driver is a large steering wheel with two blocks of buttons between the hubs, adjustable both in height and reach. The instrument panel with a standard set of readings and large digitization has a simple but modern design.
The symmetrical “aluminum” console in the center of the front panel is framed by elegant air duct deflectors and looks strictly and concisely. It houses a 2-DIN audio system and a large air conditioning system with individual monochrome display. The decoration of the crossover is made of high-quality plastics, diluted with aluminum and wood inserts, and the seats are clad in excellent leather (with the exception of the initial versions).

The front seats of the 2nd generation Santa Fe are endowed with wide adjustments and tangible support on the sides, but the cushion is somewhat short. But on the back sofa there is real freedom - there is plenty of space for three passengers, and for greater convenience the back of the rear sofa can be adjusted to the angle of inclination.

In a five-seater version luggage compartment at Korean crossover impressive in volume - 774 liters of usable space, to which is also added a spacious niche in the underground (the spare wheel is hung “outside” - under the bottom). The split backrest of the second row folds down to create a flat floor and a volume of 1,582 liters.

Technical specifications. For the Russian market, the “second Santa Fe” was equipped with two power units to choose from:

  • The gasoline version is a four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with distributed fuel injection with a volume of 2.4 liters, releasing 174 horsepower power at 6000 rpm and 226 Nm of torque at 3750 rpm.
  • The diesel side is supported by an in-line “four” with a turbocharging system, which, with a working volume of 2.2 liters, generates 197 “horses” of potential at 3800 rpm and 421 Nm of possible thrust, available in the range from 1800 to 2500 rpm.

Mechanical and automatic transmission(in both cases for six gears). By default, this Hyundai crossover is equipped with an all-wheel drive system, which under normal conditions supplies the entire supply of traction to the front axle, and if one of the wheels slips, up to 50% of its share goes to the rear axle. This entire process is managed by a multi-disc friction clutch with electronic control.

The gasoline modification "Santa Fe 2" requires 10.7-11.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/at maximum speed at 186-190 km/h, while the diesel one is somewhat more dynamic – 9.8-10.2 seconds and 190 km/h, respectively.
In the combined cycle, a 174-horsepower car consumes an average of 8.7-8.8 liters of fuel, while a 197-horsepower car consumes 6.8-7.2 liters.

The basis for the second generation Santa Fe is the front-wheel drive architecture of the Hyundai Sonata sedan. The design of the front axle provides for the presence of MacPherson struts, and rear axle– independent multi-link suspension. A hydraulic booster is “implanted” into the steering device, and braking system It is represented by disks on all wheels (front - with ventilation) with ABS and ESC.

Options and prices. For the 2nd generation Hyundai Santa Fe crossover in 2015 at secondary market In Russia, on average, they ask for from 700,000 to 1,200,000 rubles - the final cost is affected by the year of manufacture, condition, equipment and option installed engine. Even in simple level equipment “Korean” is well equipped - ABS, airbags, dual-zone climate control, power steering, fog lights, heated front seats, power windows on four doors and a standard audio system.
