I was able to visit the assembly shop of the Sollers - Far East plant. I went and looked and filmed how the cars were assembled. The main purpose of the visit was this SsangYong New Actyon, a car put into serial production at the Primorsky plant.

There were quite a few people, foreign guests, the press, plant management and many others gathered here.

In Russia, the SsangYong Kyron was received quite warmly. It stood out from its competitors because of its very moderate price. And assembly at Sollers plants in Naberezhnye Chelny (since the end of 2006) and Vladivostok (since 2010) only consolidated its success in the market. Customers were impressed by the powerful off-road potential of the “Korean”. All-wheel drive is implemented using the Part Time system, without a center differential. Under normal driving conditions, torque results in rear wheels(2H mode), and on off-road or slippery surfaces it is rigidly connected front axle(4H mode). It can be used at speeds of up to 80 km/h. Off-road, a low-range gear (4L mode) and a rear limited-slip differential help out.

The finishing materials are of good quality, the assembly is neat. But interior design is not for everyone

Russian Kyrons have generous equipment. In the basic Original version, the all-wheel drive SUV (there are also rear-wheel drive versions) comes with ABS and EBD, air conditioning, two airbags, fog lights and heated front seats, electric windows and mirrors, as well as alloy wheels by 16 inches. The Comfort version is complemented by climate control, a 2DIN audio system with a CD/MP3 player and roof rails. On expensive performances Comfort+, Elegance and Luxury system installed ESP stabilization and four airbags. And the richest versions of Elegance and Luxury sport a leather interior and electrically adjustable front seats. The Luxury also has a sunroof and heated rear seats.

Engine

Chassis and body

The front spring suspension has weak upper and lower links. ball joints(1,300 rubles each), which sometimes did not last even 10 thousand km. Reinforced parts last up to 50 thousand km. After two or three years, as a rule, the rear springs sag (2,200 rubles each) - front ones from Rexton or rear ones from Chevy Niva are suitable. There were cases of breakdown rear axle(RUB 68,000) after 50 thousand km. The steering tips are short-lived (RUB 1,300 each). The rack itself is considered unrepairable. But unofficials can tighten the washers and replace the seals for 3,000 rubles. - enough for 20–30 thousand km. And by 50 thousand km the steering shaft driveshaft becomes loose (from 3500 rubles). The vacuum brake booster failed, but after 2009 a valve with a filter was installed in the system, and the problem went away.

The body and its paintwork are strong. But on cars produced in 2008–2009, a crack appeared on the left front fender due to weakening of the metal in the welding area with the bracket on which the battery is installed. The folding mechanism for side mirrors often fails (from RUB 7,500). The seat heating coil burns out. Approximately once a month, the low beam lamps (60–200 rubles) and dimensions come on.

From debut to restyling

Just two years after the model was released, in 2007, the Koreans modernized the SsangYong Kyron. However, this is not surprising. The debutant's design was perceived as too provocative. On the updated car, three horizontal slits under the headlights were eliminated, and the radiator grille was enlarged and designed in the Mercedes-Benz style. They installed a different bumper. Round foglights gave way to rectangular-oblong ones, and instead rear lights more traditional ones appeared in the form of knightly shields. The interior remained virtually unchanged - only the center console was trimmed with carbon-look inserts. But the range of engines now includes a 2.3 liter petrol four (150 hp) and a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Verdict

− When buying a used Kyron, I want you to get a technically sound and trouble-free copy in the future, since there is a high probability of buying a pig in a poke. You understand - a lottery. Therefore, you need to protect yourself as much as possible from troubles. For this reason, we recommend carrying out a full diagnosis. Moreover, you should not contact the official service. Statistics show that the most competent SsangYong technicians and diagnosticians work at specialized service stations. And there is no need to be afraid of repairs or replacement of units by the first owner. The main thing is that the work is carried out efficiently, because a shell does not hit the same crater twice.

OJSC Severstal-auto is the official importer and manufacturer SsangYong in Russia, announces the start of production of the new mid-size SUV SsangYong Kyron. The car will appear in showrooms official dealers at the end of August 2007.

Thanks to new design solutions in the front and rear of the body, Kyron has almost completely changed its image. There are not many serious changes in the interior - they can be compared to the light touches of a master, giving a finished look to the work of a student. With the help of minor modifications, the car's designers created a cozy and respectable atmosphere inside the SUV, while maintaining the precise ergonomics of the interior. Yes, the backlight color has changed dashboard and the screen of the climate control system - the green color has given way to a more pleasing amber color. The overall tone of the interior trim has been updated, the neutral gray color has been replaced with a more austere black. Minor changes affected the design of the center console.

Having a rich set and excellent technical specifications, the cost of the basic version of the new product is 802 thousand rubles, and in maximum configuration model 2.3 with automatic transmission will cost 977,000 rubles. Thanks to its attractive design, excellent price-quality ratio, generous space and the versatile nature of the new SUV, it is expected to become SsangYong's best seller in Russia. By the end of 2007, its sales and service support will be provided by more than 80 authorized dealers.

SsangYong Kyron is a South Korean crossover. The car has been produced since 2005. Initially, for the Russian market, Kyron was assembled in Naberezhnye Chelny, and from December 2009 - in Vladivostok (this was the first model of the new Sollers - Far East enterprise).

It is no coincidence that Kyron received “off-road roots”, because working with SUVs, one might say, is in the blood SsangYong company. Back during the war between North and South Korea, the Donghwan Motor company appeared, which was engaged in the production of military SUVs. A couple of years later, the company changed its name to SsangYong and continued to be involved in the automotive industry, but now for civilian purposes. Gradually, it began to buy up other Korean companies, creating an automobile monopoly. The first civilian SUV of the SsangYong concern was the Korando Family, which had. This detail was subsequently adopted by Kyron.

Partly the predecessor of the Kyron, which was designed by Ken Greenlee (who also developed the design for the Kyron). In addition, the Musso was first equipped with a licensed Mercedes-Benz engine, which later migrated to the Kyron. However, Musso is a full-fledged SUV, and Chiron was created primarily as an urban crossover. The platform for it, which has been produced since 2001 (Rexton itself is built on the basis of the Mercedes-Benz M-class).

A year after the debut of the Chiron, the SsangYong Actyon went on sale. These two cars are classmates and differ only in the design of the body and interior. The SsangYong Actyon was produced from 2006 to 2011, but its production was closed due to increased demand for the Chiron. However, Kyron was not destined to remain alone. In the same year, 2011, production of the Chiron’s classmate, the updated SsangYong New Actyon, resumed at the Sollers Far Eastern plant.

Technical features

The car body has a frame structure, which gives many advantages. The frame is made of high-strength metal, adds weight to the car, thereby eliminating vibrations inside the cabin while driving. In addition, in the event of a collision, the body is seriously protected from deformation.

Another plus for the car’s off-road capabilities is the design of the wings. SsangYong engineers managed to design them in such a way that even when driving through mud, the Chiron's windows are reliably protected and remain clean.

A 2.3-liter engine is offered for the crossover on the Russian market. gasoline engine, as well as a 2.0-liter turbodiesel - the special pride of the “Korean”, which he inherited from Mercedes. In other markets, the diesel Kyron is also available in a 2.7-liter version.

Ken Greenlee, the designer of the Kyron, admitted that when creating the first version of the car he was too carried away by the culture of the Middle Ages. As a result, the interior received a lot of roundness in the design of the instruments, and the handbrake handle generally looked like the hilt of a sword. This non-standard appearance of Kyron seemed too provocative to the company’s marketers, and it was “calmed down” through restyling.

Initially, Kyron was assembled at a plant in Naberezhnye Chelny, where the Oka car was produced at the same time.

Pros and cons

In fact, the closest rival Korean crossover can be considered Suzuki Grand Vitara. Among the minuses, one can highlight the absence on the Kyron of an assistance mode when descending from the mountain, which is characteristic feature any modern SUV.

Finally, a completely unexpected drawback is the cost of servicing a car in Russia. Despite its Korean origin, the prices at official dealers are not “Korean” at all.

Overall, SsangYong Kyron and Suzuki Grand Vitara is a car of different specifications. Kyron offers the owner confident traction on low revs(in the diesel version), comfort and reliability even off-road. In turn, the Vitara is a more nimble car; it shakes and you can feel the passage of every bump, which adds drive during a country trip.

Target Audience

SsangYong Kyron – This is the choice of those who like comfortable travel around the city and regular country picnics. Moderately powerful, reliable and roomy, it is perfect for a small family. In addition, do not forget that Kyron is the flagship of the SsangYong line for very reasonable money.

Awards and numbers

In 2006, the British 4x4 magazine included the SsangYong Kyron in the list of the most best SUVs year. The car ended up in 6th position with a score of 29 points (for comparison, the winner Jeep Commander had 39).

In 2007, Kyron was included in the list of contenders for the title of “Car of the Year” in Europe, but he did not reach the finals, much less the victory.
