There will definitely be expenses: we choose a used Mercedes-Benz E-Class W212. Mercedes-Benz E-Class Mercedes benz e class generation

The good must be replaced with the better, especially if it is one of the Mercedes-Benz models. And even the quite successful E-class W 211, which defended the honor of the brand in the upper-middle segment, became outdated over time, and in 2009 the company released the new “Eshka”. No one was surprised that it became larger and more comfortable - what shocked us, first of all, was the design concept. The departure from biodesign in favor of chopped forms a la W 124 - not everyone was ready for such a turn of events.

The predecessor of our today's hero, Mercedes in the 211th body, received the main criticism for the clearly decreased quality of workmanship, an increased number of failures and the short service life of a number of components. Many fans of the brand associated this fact with the unsuccessful merger with Chrysler and the technological templates they introduced.

Pictured: Mercedes-Benz E 250 CDI (W212) "2009–12

In particular, the SBC system, which was installed before the restyling of the model, the quality of engines, the quality of gearboxes after restyling and the quality of body paint were ostracized. It would seem that the criticism was taken very seriously, but the new Mercedes inherited both engines and gearboxes from its ancestor, albeit in slightly modernized versions.

However, the model had enough advantages. First of all, comfort has been improved through the use of a new active suspension, improved aerodynamics and a new mechatronic interior. In addition, passport requirements and, most importantly, real consumption fuel due to the transition mainly to engines with direct fuel injection, seven-speed automatic transmission, and also reduced aerodynamic drag. Special care was taken about safety: among the options there was a night vision system, radar for emergency braking and cruise control, a blind spot monitoring system, “smart” airbags, and lateral support adjustments. Well, the body, of course, has become even stronger.

The 2013 restyling was remembered by many precisely because one simply wouldn’t dare call it a facelift. The appearance was redesigned very thoroughly: the car received new head optics, and with the help of small touches the appearance was transformed incredibly - from a rough and faceted projectile, the car turned into an example of elegant style with an admixture of hi-tech. The interior has also been refined: it has more color and smooth lines, and also the gloomy gray plastic and massive steering wheel have been abandoned.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 250 (W212) "2013–present"

They also worked thoroughly with the technology - the line of gasoline engines was replaced with a new one in 2011, removing the rather outdated and frankly failed engines series M271 and M272. After restyling, the five-speed gearboxes of the 722.6 series were almost completely replaced by the seven-speed 722.9, and in 2014, the latest nine-speed gearbox was installed on the E350 BlueTech. LEDs have been installed in the optics, but the night vision system has been removed from the range of options. The model was produced in this form until 2016, when it was replaced by a completely new car in the back of the W 213, which became much more interactive, economical and, perhaps, even more comfortable.

As for reliability, there was no obvious reduction in the number of failures, and the cost of operation even increased, despite, in general, children’s age. I propose to look into this situation in a little more detail.

Body and interior

The oldest cars on at the moment are approaching the age of seven. It is still too early to talk about any punctures in the anti-corrosion protection; the cars are painted well, and traces of corrosion can only be found with a very careful inspection. Minimal damage to the joint sealant on the sill and trunk panels with barely visible traces of rust is definitely a bad sign. Such defects occur regularly, but so far they have not caused any particular problems. And most often they are associated with “shock loads” - primarily operation in hot summers, salty winters, diagonal distortions and racing on bad roads.

Obvious corrosion at seams or at the edges of arches and sills is very rare, unless, of course, the car has been in a serious accident with replacement of panels with non-original ones or serious work on straightening damaged elements. By and large, if you notice corrosion, then you don’t have to look at the car any further: these are the consequences of either an accident, or very harsh operation, all other problems are so childhood are not showing themselves yet.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 350 4MATIC (W212) "2013–present"

Well, if you are looking far into the future, then look for a car with perfectly intact seam sealant and apply an additional layer of anti-corrosion on the bottom - the protection looks weak, despite the large amount of plastic, and the internal cavities need protection, the experience of past generations of the E-Class says that it is better to do this right away.

It is also recommended to clean the “aquarium” – the niche under the windshield. The drains are small and quickly become contaminated with the remains of leaves - this usually does not threaten the body, but there will be a lot of problems with the electrical part, and it will spill into the interior. Rubber seals dry out after three to five years, and then the interior floor covering will become wet.

The radiator brackets and various small things under the hood will tell you a lot about the operating conditions. On cars that spend the night in a damp underground garage or in a snowdrift on the street, light corrosion will be on many components and fasteners of the “hood” - this is a feature of many new and expensive cars.

A large number of plastic parts on the bottom and their price can play a cruel joke. Even if the metal of the body is impeccable, bringing the car into perfect condition may require a large sum of money. Aerodynamic panels are easily damaged engine compartment, fender liners (there was a recall campaign on the front ones) and in general all the lower plastic, including the suspension arm linings. If an M271 series engine, the most common on these cars, is installed, and its oil cup is leaking, then the plastic of the engine compartment is most likely in very poor condition, even on cars produced in 2012-2013.

Peeling chrome, door handles and wiper blades are the problem with cars from Moscow and St. Petersburg; road chemicals quickly kill all decorative coatings.

On a car with a panoramic sunroof, the guides are at risk; they become dirty and creak. If you do not pay attention to this, you can burn the drive motor or break the rollers and levers of the system. And the very first rain will increase the number of problems many times over. By the way, the drainage of a panoramic sunroof gets clogged much faster than a simple one. It is worth blowing out every year and this must be done very carefully - the tubes are attached, to put it mildly, very weakly, they easily fly off when exposed to compressed air, after which you will have to remove the entire hatch mechanism and put the tubes on clamps.

Before restyling, the optics, both front and rear, quickly lose their seal and sweat. And the ignition units for xenon headlights and control units also collect moisture. In general, you need to be very careful when driving through puddles and washing the engine compartment; it is better to use special cleaners rather than water. There are enough electronic units here.

After restyling, the optics have become better; in any case, the headlights are not prone to fogging, but the beautiful “checkmarks” of the LED lights may go out. Their repair has already been mastered, but most services will offer to replace the entire headlight. Cars with LED low beams have a different problem: “eternal” LEDs actually last only a couple of years; they usually lose their luminosity in the summer, in traffic jams. It is strongly recommended to use only the DRLs in such conditions, and not the neighbor.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 250 CDI AU-spec (W212) "2013–present"

LED rear lights not only dazzle those standing behind in traffic jams, but also suffer from gradual failure of the LEDs - the reason is usually oxidation of the board and leakage of the light. Officially, it is not dismountable, but a Dremel works wonders, often you just need to replace the power connector inside, and see the price of a new headlight for yourself...

The loss of the washer caps and the breakdown of the nozzles themselves is another flaw; the caps can be considered consumables, and if you install Chinese ones, then a few pieces may go away per month. If the mirrors creak when folded, then carefully inspect the mounting brackets: a crust of oxides on the aluminum will hint that it is advisable to inspect the body again for corrosion.

The car interior is filled with a variety of servos and electronics. There is wiring everywhere, control modules for everything under the sun, and everything is very carefully and intricately assembled. Cars before restyling generally look darker, but the quality of interior materials in basic trim levels, oddly enough, is better than that of restyling, and expensive leather is not always more durable than cheap leatherette in inexpensive versions.

But when driving over “hundreds” both leatherette and leather give in – the driver’s seat begins to become covered with a network of cracks. In general, the quality of the interior is very high: a few unsuccessful elements such as automatic transmission paddles, steering wheel buttons and seat control buttons only emphasize how carefully the rest of the details are made. The only serious disadvantage that can be noted is thermal sensitivity - at low temperatures the interior begins to rattle, especially on restyled models, and the suspension echoes this. Again, cars produced after 2013, according to reviews, have slightly worse sound insulation, but perhaps it’s just the noisier engines of the new generation that create a similar effect.

The Command multimedia system fails relatively rarely. Most often, failures are associated with the rear camera module; it is connected directly to the “head” of the device and to the CD changer. A few more problems are caused by non-standard firmware with Russification and new navigation for cars from Europe; such software often works unstable.

Too many problems for a relatively new car? But pay attention, “E-shki” are exploited for slaughter. They work both as corporate cars and as “personal cars” for those who drive themselves and do not consider it an expensive limousine.

Electronics and electrical

In addition to the complexity of the problems, there are minimal problems. It doesn’t break down very often, but if it does break down... If you don’t light a cigarette, don’t discharge the batteries, and monitor the serviceability of the generator, then all the complex electronic components work stably. Of the serious troubles, we can only remember the piezo injectors and the OM651 engine control unit, this is a 2.2 diesel. The injectors died, the block was changed along with them, but more new version The control unit sometimes loses power to the injectors. In general, Delphi electronics did not perform well. After the warranty period, all this is extremely reluctant to change, check when purchasing.

Electronic components The engine compartment often suffers from leaks, especially the ignition and headlight control units. The keyless entry system is sensitive to strong interference, failures happen too often, and besides, it can simply drain the battery in just a day or two, giving false alarms. Otherwise, you just need to remember that all servos, displays and touch panels have a limited resource, and besides, these things are quite fragile. And those made by Mercedes are also expensive. There are very few machines that, when diagnosed, show a complete absence of errors and malfunctions in the operation of the actuators.

Brakes, suspension and steering

The brake system fully complies with brand standards: high quality all components and excellent work. The short service life of discs and pads is a little alarming, but this is a consequence of the active operation of stabilization and drying systems brake discs, and the weight of the car is quite large, about two tons.

Front air strut cost

Price for original:

181,580 rubles

The suspensions on the W 212 are famous for their comfort and good mileage; they can withstand almost everything up to a mileage of 70-100 thousand kilometers, even with 18-inch wheels. The secret is that the front is no longer a double wishbone, but a regular MacPherson strut, it is simpler and more reliable. Rear suspension seriously redesigned, and it better withstands the mass of new cars - the old versions of the multi-link were structurally little different from the suspension of cars in the back of the W 201 thirty years ago. But the electronically controlled shock absorbers are stock, which significantly increases costs in case of wear or serious damage, and the electronics have a finite resource.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 220 CDI (W212) "2009–12
The air suspension has become noticeably stronger, protection against road dirt has once again been improved, and pipelines and electronics, including all sensors, have become more reliable. The service life of the “pneuma” is more than 150 thousand kilometers, but it should rather be measured in years, because the wear of the elements is largely related to the age of the cylinders.

Pictured: Mercedes-Benz E 350 4MATIC (W212) "2009–12

Electric power steering does not cause problems; it was installed on cars with gasoline engines of the M274, M276 series and some diesel engines. But the pump of a conventional power steering on the M272 and M271 does not differ in service life, which is affected by the high load on the unit when using wide tires. The resource of the rack, steering rods and tips is quite long - the tips and rods need to be checked and replaced closer to one hundred thousand kilometers, and the rack usually with a slight play does not require replacement even at runs of three hundred thousand kilometers. Failures of the Servotronic system (Mercedes calls this “parametric steering", surprisingly, are extremely rare.

Transmission

The mechanical boxes and the transmission itself are extremely reliable, fortunately they have been worked out for years. And even the all-wheel drive transmission is durable and reliable. Unless the elements of the front gearbox and front axle drive can fail over runs of up to hundreds of thousands of kilometers. Transfer case at risk only for all-wheel drive vehicles with a top-end three-liter diesel engine and on AMG versions.

With automatic transmissions everything is a little more complicated. Until 2011, most four-cylinder cars were equipped with an old and very reliable five-speed gearbox 722.6 series, long established and improved. By the way, the latest firmware for this unit dates back to 2014, with them the wear of the gas turbine linings is slightly reduced due to the less active operation of the “cold” blocking and an increase in the “adaptability” margin. By modern standards, a very reliable unit, with a service life of the mechanics and hydraulic unit of about 250-300 thousand kilometers, without “childish problems”. At timely replacement gas turbine engine blocking linings for mileages of 150-200 thousand kilometers and frequent replacement oil does not cause much trouble until the main clutches, bushings and planetary gears wear out. On E200 versions this automatic transmission can be found until 2013.

The automatic transmission of the 722.9 series, also known as 7G-tronic, which has been installed on six-cylinder versions of cars since 2009 and on other cars since 2011, cannot boast of such refinement and problem-free operation. The main difficulties were eliminated on the restyled W 211, but the W 212 also had its fair share of problems. And the first versions of 7Gtronic +, optimized for start-stop modes, also added failures. Failures of hydraulic units, wiring and overheating plague the boxes to this day. And, perhaps, this automatic transmission is one of the most serious shortcomings of post-restyling cars.

However, it, of course, has advantages: the fuel consumption of cars with a seven-speed automatic transmission is surprisingly low - in combination with gasoline “fours”, the average can be less than eight liters, and with the diesel OM651 – even less than six liters. It is highly recommended to change the oil every 30-40 thousand kilometers and install an external automatic transmission radiator, as well as remove the box thermostat.

Since 2014, BlueTech diesel models have also been equipped with a nine-speed 9G-tronic automatic transmission. Again, many “childish problems” were revealed, but at the moment they are being fixed under warranty, and there are almost no problems with overheating on diesel engines. With such an automatic transmission, fuel consumption is slightly reduced. In “highway” modes, diesel consumption drops below three liters per hundred, and this is for a two-ton car.

Engines

Pre-styling engines are basically a “hit” recent years represented by the 1.8-liter M271 Evo engine with a compressor, as well as engines of the M272 series. By the time the W 212 was launched, most of the engine problems had been eliminated, although the M271 still has a low timing chain and sprocket life, and the M272 still periodically wears out the intake manifold and lifts the cylinders.

All engines of this generation too often suffer from oil leaks: on the M271, an unsuccessful “cup” of the filter is leaking, and on the M272, the heat exchanger is also leaking. Take a look at the list of problems with these engines: essentially, the difficulties are the same, but the age of the cars is less. But given the well-functioning design, serious problems arise only if all warnings are persistently ignored.

Under the hood of Mercedes-Benz E 200 NGT (W212) "2011–12

The main problem of the M272 - the short life of the timing chain - has receded. Motors of later years of production have a service life of this unit on average of about 200 thousand kilometers, and besides, the chain rarely jumps right away. On the M271, you need to keep an eye on the chain; it often stretches and jumps when running less than 100 thousand kilometers, but again, it warns of wear in advance with a specific noise. Since runs beyond 200 thousand kilometers are not yet very common, there are few complaints about these engines, and they are mainly associated with the M271. Motors of the M273 series are much less common, but essentially do not differ from the M272 in operation, except that cylinder scuffing can be found noticeably more often on them.

There are a lot of diesel engines of the OM651 series in various versions of boost and power supply. Until 2011, units were supplied with piezo injectors, which were prone to leaks and failures. This often led to water hammer and burnout of the pistons. Only the younger version of the engine, which was equipped with conventional injectors, avoided the problem. As part of the recall campaign, the injectors on all engines after 2011 were changed to electromagnetic ones, and the injection control unit was also changed.

Timing chain cost

Price for original:

10,499 rubles

The design of the engine is quite complex, it has many points that require attention, but the workmanship is very good, and in most cases, failures occur due to the fault of fuel equipment, intake manifold flaps, thermostat, EGR valve, particulate filter and sensors.

After a mileage of 200-250 thousand kilometers, the turbine usually dies. At approximately the same mileage, the timing mechanism needs to be replaced. Another unpleasant feature of the engine is the tendency for the injectors to “stick”. Specialized services usually know how to deal with this scourge, but owners still recommend preventive removal and cleaning at least once a year. Little things like failures of the overrunning clutch and APC valve almost never occur on cars with low mileage.

Diesel V 6 series OM642 are considered one of the most reliable from Mercedes-Benz in recent years. Very durable, with very reliable fuel equipment - it is deservedly appreciated by those who want power and stability. The problems are mostly purely and nothing more.

New engines began to appear on cars after 2011. There are significantly fewer reviews for them, but a number of patterns can be identified.

The M276 series engines that replaced the M272 do not have problems with the piston group and manifolds, but there was already a recall campaign on the timing belt - the dampers and hydraulic chain tensioners were changed, and at low mileage the chains jumped. The engines 276.8 with serial number up to 276.8xx 30 001280 and 276.9 with serial number up to 276.9xx 30 406602 were recalled. In addition, the oil pump pressure is too low, and cases of damage to the liners and crankshaft are common. Piezo injectors also perform poorly on these engines, but for now they are being replaced as part of warranty repairs.

The in-line fours of the M274 series received an aluminum block, a delicate piston group and turbocharging. The E-class was equipped with only a 2.0-liter version in two boost levels. The engine has performed well so far, but there are cases of scuffing piston group There are cases where the motor does not tolerate the slightest overheating very well, and is also sometimes prone to “oil burning” in very early childhood.

What to choose?

The cost of operating premium business class cars has increased significantly over the past ten years, and you need to get used to it. You wanted fuel consumption like Solaris and dynamics like 911? You will receive it, but you will still have to pay – not for fuel, but for repairs and maintenance. Now these cars, for the most part, delight their owners. They are solidly made, but they have a lot of components with a limited service life and outright pitfalls like chains on the M271 and the 7G-tronic automatic transmission. All of them can cause a lot of trouble even for the most zealous car owners if the “factory” maintenance intervals are observed.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG (W212) "2009–11

WITH diesel engine The E-Class can even claim to be a very economical car to operate, especially if your mileage is long and the roads are smooth. Comfort and safety are undoubtedly among the best features of the model; here it is head and shoulders above any new car, which can be purchased for comparable amounts, and believe me, no “strong” “Japanese” can compare with it.

But there will definitely be expenses - small at first, large later, and how much of it will go to your wallet is difficult to predict.

Would you buy the penultimate E-Class?

Initially, the name E-Class was interpreted as Einspritzung and meant “ fuel injection", but then the meaning of the letter "E" was changed to Executivklasse or "business class".

Officially, the E-Classe brand was registered on April 1, 1999. A scandal immediately broke out. It turned out that a French citizen patented this name a year ago. A lawsuit was brought against Daimler AG, and the concern was forced to buy the patent for 100 thousand German marks.

In March 2015, the latest tenth generation of Mercedes E-Class, consisting of a sedan, coupe and convertible, was spotted in northern Europe during low-temperature tests. Their appearance was developed in the same stylistic solution as the C-Class, as well as the GLC crossover. The world premiere of new products took place at the Detroit Auto Show. It is worth noting that the German concern described the latest generation as the smartest in the business class.

The models are built on the new modular MRA platform, thanks to which the length of the cars has increased by 43 mm (to 4923 mm), and the wheelbase has increased by 65 mm (to 2939 mm). At the same time, the weight of the car decreased by 100 kg, and the drag coefficient Cx decreased from 0.25 to 0.23.

The suspension design has been simplified; the front axle is now equipped with MacPherson struts, rather than double wishbones as before.

In the cabin, the digital dashboard, consisting of two huge monitors, immediately catches your eye. One displays the speedometer and tachometer, and the second is connected to the computer and entertainment system.

At first, only two basic modifications were supplied to Russia: E200 and E220d. The first is equipped with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 184 hp. and 300 Nm of torque. Under the hood of the second is a diesel engine with the same displacement and a power of 195 hp. and 400 Nm of torque.

As a transmission, only nine-speed ones are installed on all “Eskies” automatic boxes transmission

In the fall of 2016, more than powerful version E350d with a six-cylinder V-shaped turbodiesel engine producing 258 hp. and 620 Nm of torque. Sales of all-wheel drive modifications will begin no earlier than the fourth quarter.

A hybrid version of the S-class has also been developed with a power plant based on four-cylinder engine and an electric motor with a total power of 279 hp.

As additional equipment Air suspension and a sports package with controlled shock absorber stiffness and reduced ground clearance are offered.

Also added to the list of options is active cruise control, which is capable of driving the car at speeds of up to 210 km/h. He himself recognizes not only the road and signs, but also buildings. Up to 130 km/h, the autopilot does not even require markings. He himself determines the boundaries of the strip and adheres to them.

The car is also capable of changing lanes. The driver only needs to indicate in which direction he needs to change lanes, after which the car will comply with the command, provided that the adjacent lane is free.

The electronics can also detect obstacles on the road and activate the braking system. If a collision is unavoidable, a loud sound will be heard in the cabin, warning people of the impending danger.

Video

The history of this popular model, which has always combined comfort, reliability and a high degree of safety, is very extensive. The first car of this series (model 170) was created in 1947 and marked the beginning of post-war production. This was followed in 1953 by the 180 and 190, better known as the "Ponton Mercedes". Over the next 9 years, more than 468 thousand cars of this series, including diesel ones, were sold. Production of the W110 series began in 1961, and until February 1968, more than 628 thousand cars were produced. This successful series was replaced by the equally successful W114/115. In 1968, a sedan with an extended wheelbase was released for the first time, as well as a coupe version. The W123 series followed in 1976. In addition, a station wagon version has appeared. And finally, the debut of the W124 series, which took place in November 1984. Thus, 5 generations of cars passed before the E-Class appeared in 1995, which truly surprised everyone with its fundamentally new “four-eyed” face.

Models of the “W124” series of early years can be distinguished from examples of the real E-Class, manufactured no earlier than the end of ’93, by a deep niche for the rear license plate and narrow black side moldings. Of particular interest is the “one-armed dancing “janitor”. The W124 featured an automatic locking differential (ASD), an anti-skid system (ASR) and, for the first time on a production Mercedes passenger car, all-wheel drive with automatic torque distribution (4Matic). In September 1988, W124 buyers were offered an airbag as an optional equipment..... Four years later, both the airbag and ABS became standard equipment on all Mercedes.

Quite conservative (in a good way) and easy to use, reliable, with durable engines and spacious interior coupled with a beautifully designed interior and ergonomics, the Mercedes-Benz W124 is practically a reference car 1980s There were seven interior options with tapestry or leather seat trim. A huge amount of adjustment for the driver's seat, remotely retractable rear headrests, comfortable seat belts, tightness and excellent sound insulation of the body - this is worth paying for for those who value driving comfort and safety above all else. The only drawback of the huge 520-liter luggage compartment - the inability to accommodate long cargo inside the cabin - is compensated by good lighting, a low luggage compartment lip and practical pockets for small items and tools.

In August 1989, the W124 underwent a cosmetic retouch. It received wide plastic trim on the doors and the bottom of the body with chrome molding. Chrome appeared on the bumpers and door handles. The headlight lenses have changed. There is more space in the cabin, more comfortable seats, and valuable types of wood began to be used more widely in decoration. In the same year, engines with fully electronically controlled power and ignition systems.

So, as a result of the next modernization of the W124 model, the first E-class appeared at the end of 1993, which remains a rather prestigious car to this day. At that time, a new indexation of all Mercedes-Benz was introduced: instead of “200E”, “220E” and so on came the more modern “E200”, “E220”, “E280”... The letter in front indicates the E-class, and the following numbers — engine volume. This is how the first E-class appeared, which will be discussed.

The first E-class was distinguished by an almost flat rear wall of the trunk lid (very similar to the “one hundred and fortieth”), so that the deep niche of the license plate gave way to simple stamping, on the sides of the body there were chrome moldings and wide trims, the radiator grille was “recessed” into the hood. When the E-Class went on sale, there were many cars of the previous generation remaining in the warehouses of Mercedes dealers throughout Europe, which began to be converted into the E-Class. To do this, it was necessary, by and large, to replace only the hood with a false radiator grille and the trunk lid. European dealers carried out this operation only with cars of 92-93, which already had gasoline engines with four valves per cylinder (technically, these cars are no different from the E-class). However, in our market you can find supposedly E-classes from the eighties! Simply, in addition to everything else, instead of old-fashioned side moldings, modern plastic linings are installed on the sides of the body. Such machines are primarily produced by engines with two valves per cylinder. In the service, you can check the year of manufacture of the car by downloading its VIN number to the computer.

Mercedes cars are initially very expensive, but at the same time very strong and durable. The E-Class comes in several body styles, primarily the “sedans” that dominate the used car market. E-class station wagons (Touring) — best option for practical people. Having retained all the advantages of a sedan, the station wagon has the advantage of a large usable interior volume, which, with the rear (middle) row of seats folded, reached 2180 liters. In its trunk you can install an additional 2-seater seat, with which the total number of seats reaches seven. However, the main rear seat can be folded in a 2:1 ratio. The model retains a unique rear hydraulic suspension with automatic inflation to maintain a constant level of the rear part of the body above the road. In the Mercedes program, a station wagon is designated by the letter “T” after the numbers, for example, “E280T”. This is one of the most spacious station wagons in its class.

Traditionally, “personal” Mercedes-Benz models with a two-door coupe body without a B-pillar have always been considered refined - the so-called hardtop, which, with the side windows lowered, is comparable in terms of interior “ventilation” to a convertible. At the same time, such a body is much more practical, and its passive safety higher. The streamlined body, made on a shortened (85 mm) sedan chassis, turned out to be very stylish. The coupe was designated by the letter “C”.

The Cabrio convertible is based on the coupe. One of the few convertibles created on the basis of a business class car. This full-fledged four-seater car (which is rare among modern cars of this type) with an automatically folding top were equipped only with gasoline engines.

The Mercedes E-class is one of the few cars that is offered with such a wide range of engines - from modest four-cylinders to multi-liter V8s...

The M111 series is equipped with two four-cylinder engines - “E200” with a power of 136 hp. and “E220” - 150 hp. These engines themselves are reliable and durable, but they were equipped with different injection systems. An unsuccessful option is the so-called PMS injection. Its control unit is overly sensitive to water and salt. He is afraid of a basic engine wash.

Next is the six-cylinder E-class series “M104” - modifications “E280” (193 hp) and “E320” (220 hp) - with typical Mercedes noiselessness and dynamism even when fully loaded. However, you have to pay for this with significant fuel consumption. In the city, six-cylinder cars consume about 17 l/100 km. Motors of the M104 series are very durable.

The powerful E420 M119 series with an eight-cylinder engine can compete on equal terms with fast modern Mercs. The car is equipped with a 4.2-liter V8 with a capacity of 279 horsepower. This engine is perhaps the most reliable, but also quite voracious: with restrained driving, every hundred kilometers a twenty-liter canister of not the cheapest gasoline flies down the drain. In short, the car is addressed to those who really love driving fast and are able to maintain such a fast car.

The dream of many collectors is the legendary E500 - a reliable and incredibly fast sedan. Externally, Super Mercs are distinguished by separate headlights, differently shaped bumpers with standard front foglights, widely flared front and rear wheel arches and a rich interior with sports seats. The rest is a classic and noble “one hundred and twenty-fourth”. This super-powerful (326 hp) model with a 5-liter M117 V8 engine from the “500th” S-class reaches 100 km/h in just 6.1 s. This model was assembled on the Porsche assembly line. For particularly hotheads, the E60 AMG version with a 6-liter V8 producing 381 hp was offered. and acceleration of 5.4 seconds. But there are very few of them even in Germany. In the Mercedes-Benz tradition, both models were equipped only with automatic transmissions.

E-Class diesel Mercedes are also worthy of attention. The E200 Diesel version at one time attracted buyers due to its low cost. It cost even less than the gasoline E200! However, the four-cylinder diesel is downright noisy and produces noticeable vibration. The most popular due to the price/performance ratio was the 5-cylinder diesel engine. It is much softer and quieter in operation. The three-liter inline six was offered in two versions: naturally aspirated (136 hp) and turbocharged (147 hp). Cars with such engines are expensive both in themselves and in maintenance. The “six” operates with virtually no characteristic diesel rattle, and is exceptionally smooth. Finally, the EZ00 Diesel and EZ00 Turbodiesel are very fast and dynamic.

In 1995, Mercedes-Benz introduced passenger cars class “E” in a new body - W210 with 4 round headlights. The “210th” was a worthy successor to the “124” series car, which sold 2.7 million units worldwide. The new design of the front end with seemingly separate round headlights (in fact, they are combined into two complex-shaped headlights) is not enough leaves anyone indifferent. The “big-eyed Mercedes” inherited the main features of the corporate identity, which was confirmed by the unprecedented growth in European sales of the model in the next three years, such that many of its competitors in the top sector of the market (F) had to make room for a lot. The 210 series of sedans remains the most successful in the upper middle class.

Like its predecessor with the 124 body, the E-Class is a strong and reliable car. The smooth ride of this car is impressive. The improved wheel suspension almost completely neutralizes the impact of road irregularities. For the first time on cars of this class, rack and pinion steering was used. Among the innovations are a rain sensor, an outside air pollution sensor, and the Parktronic system. A year later, an “adaptive” 5-speed FRG with electronic control appeared, allowing you to change the switching algorithm depending on your driving style.

For E-class vehicles, more than 6,400 options are available to fulfill individual wishes in terms of design and technical equipment. Additional equipment and accessories include: child seats, refrigerator, comfortable seats with ventilation, dynamic navigation system (DynAPS), Comand control and display system with integrated radio and navigation system etc.

Initially, the E-Class had a fairly rich basic package, which included electrical accessories (mirror windows) and height-adjustable front seats. For safety reasons, the car was equipped with a Window-Bag airbag, which deploys in the form of a curtain between the front and rear pillars during a side impact; two-stage front airbags; inertial seat belts; multifunction steering wheel, ABS, ESP. All this equipment was available regardless of the design and interior equipment, of which there were three: Classic, Elegance and Avantgarde. The cheapest of them is considered Classic, which is distinguished by the absence of leather and minimal use of wood in the interior trim, simple wheels, green tinted windows and a “low” center console - without an armrest between the front seats. But even this option is very representative. The sedan's trunk, despite its large 520-liter volume, is also very comfortable.

Cars in the Elegance style look more luxurious thanks to the chrome on the external door handles and bumpers. The interior of this version sports walnut trim. The steering wheel and gear lever are covered in leather, which can also be used to trim the seats. Wheels are cast, ten-spoke. Instead of rotating handles for ventilation, air conditioning and the “stove”, a modern microclimate control unit with a display and keys is already used on the center console.

The most elite version is Avantgarde. It has, so to speak, a sporting bent. The interior is trimmed in dark, almost black maple and leather. Special rims and the almost obligatory xenon light give respectability appearance. In addition, in the Avantgarde version, the glass is tinted not with the widely used green, but with blue. However, it should be taken into account that the low Avantgarde sports suspension does not cope well with Russian roads.

Since 1997, all E-class cars began to be equipped with the “Brake Assist” system, which recognizes extreme braking and helps the driver reduce the brakes to a minimum. braking distance. In addition, this system itself monitors malfunctions that occur in the engine, electrical or transmission and reminds you of the need to change the oil or brake fluid using a light bulb " Check Engine" on the dashboard. Even the service book states that visits to the service station are carried out at intervals of 15,000-22,000 km based on the signal from this light bulb.

Since 1997, all-wheel drive versions of the E-class have appeared in the program - “4Matic” (4x4 transmission). This is a complex transmission that combines a 5-speed automatic transmission and a traction control system - in case of slipping, it brakes the spinning wheel, providing better traction. This 4Matic transmission continuously smoothly redistributes torque between the front and rear via viscous couplings. rear axle(during normal driving in a ratio of 33:66), and there are no inter-wheel and center differential locks, as they are replaced by the “smart” ETS system, which itself slows down the slipping wheel using the standard braking system.

The E-class offers a wide range of engines, which are divided into three groups. The first includes economical gasoline and diesel engines with a displacement of 2.0-2.7 liters and a power of 115-170 hp. Cars with such engines have low fuel consumption and fully satisfy the needs of most E-class owners.

Another group includes more powerful 6-cylinder 2.8- and 3.2-liter engines, which, as a rule, work with automatic 5-speed transmissions. These engines allow you to fully reveal the full potential of the design inherent in the E-class. More modern engines appeared in 1997. These are not in-line, but already V-shaped “sixes” with a volume of 2.4, 2.8 and 3.2 liters (170, 204 and 224 power, respectively). V6s are on average 25% lighter than the previous generation's inline-sixes, they are superbly balanced, and their operation is almost invisible on the controls. And fuel consumption has decreased compared to its in-line counterparts - in the city it will be about 13 liters. In the E-class, such popular station wagon models were also equipped with new V-shaped 6-cylinder engines (129-279 hp)

The third includes the most prestigious V-shaped “eight” engines with a working volume of 4.3 and 5.4 liters. The models equipped with them can perhaps be classified as executive ones. For the powerful E420 with a 4.2-liter V8 with a power of 279 horsepower, since 1997 the Germans have increased the engine capacity by 100 cubic meters, leaving the power unchanged - in order to increase the already considerable torque. Average fuel consumption is about 20 l/100 km. The Mercedes tuning studio launched the E50 AMG model on the market in 1996, and a year later, in 1997, the E 55 AMG modification, the most powerful sports sedan, was presented in Frankfurt. The main changes that AMG made to the standard E-Class concerned improvements to the engine, suspension and car body.

Thus, the E50 AMG received a forced 5-liter V8 with a capacity of 347 horsepower. With such potential, the car accelerated to hundreds in 7.2 seconds, and the top speed was limited to the standard 250 km/h. The E55 AMG model had an even more impressive 5.4-liter V8 with 354 horsepower. Therefore, acceleration to hundreds takes only 5.7 seconds, and the powerful torque (530 Nm) literally throws the car forward even from 200 km/h. Externally, AMG cars are distinguished by plastic door sills, lower bumpers, additional spoilers and special sports wheels. The ground clearance of the sports E-class is 2.5 cm less than the standard model. A chic two-tone leather interior is the hallmark of AMG creations.

And in 1998, the big-eyed ones began to be equipped with new-generation diesel engines with a Common Rail power system (Mercedes with such engines are designated by the CDI index). The previously known E200CDI and E220CDI were retained, but received more powerful engines of 115 and 143 hp. instead of the previous 102 and 125 hp.

From 1995 to 1999 More than 1 million W210 cars have been produced, most of which are used in Europe. It is not for nothing that this model has been and remains one of the business class standards. In the summer of 1999, the big-eyed one underwent modernization; over 1,800 different changes were made to the design. New engines and transmissions appeared, equipment changed. The extensive program of E-class models, by the beginning of 2000, included 27 basic configurations. The external difference between the “new” cars and the “old” ones is the shape of a lower front end with an integrated bumper, the edge of which reaches the middle of the headlights. Such a car is easy to recognize by the direction indicators implanted in the exterior mirrors, while in the early version the “flashing lights” are located on the front wings. Among the features of the E-Class station wagon is a very spacious luggage compartment, the volume of which reaches 1.97 m3 with the rear seat folded. As standard equipment, E-Class Mercedes are equipped with an electronic stability control system (ESP). On all-wheel drive versions of 4Matic, it is no longer the traditional differential locking system that is used, but an imitation of locking by braking the slipping wheels using ABS.

Since 2000, models have been equipped with 270 CDI and 320 CDI engines. The all-wheel drive E430 4 Matic appeared in the program, the front wheels of which are connected, however, only when the rear wheels slip. Most powerful sports sedan The E55 AMG 4 Matic and the E55T AMG 4 Matic station wagon are distinguished by their special design and excellent speed characteristics. At the end of 2001, the appearance of the E400 CDI model with the latest 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 diesel engine producing 250 hp.

In November 2001, production of the W210 ceased. Station wagon modifications were assembled until the beginning of 2003. The exact number of cars produced with the body W210-1350128. This is about 24% of the number of passenger Mercedes produced from 1995 to 2001. A significant event in November 2001 was that the figure of 10 million sales of E-Class cars in their entire history was reached.

In January 2002, the premiere of the new E-class sedan (body type W211) took place. The car has “added” a little more in size, and its appearance has acquired a more rapid appearance - a magnificent sculptural form made of glass and steel. The highest level of comfort for both driver and passengers corresponds to the same level of active and passive safety.

Externally, the car retained the style of its predecessor: the same separate round headlights at the front, only now they consist of several lamps hidden under one cap. Rear end new E-class made in the style of a Mercedes S-class executive sedan. The car's interior is now significantly more spacious thanks to an increased wheelbase, as well as a newly designed interior. Informative devices in the form of liquid crystal columns will report only the most necessary and up-to-date information, and the sound of a running engine and the noise of city streets will not bother you thanks to almost perfect sound insulation.

Initially, the creators not only provided E-class cars with a rich set of equipment, but also equipped them with the most innovative technology. A semi-active air suspension Airmatic Dual Control, which is standard equipment on the E 500 model. It allows the car to “not notice” bumps and hover above the road.

The Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) braking system takes care of the safety of passengers: it automatically dries the brake discs on wet roads and, thanks to its advantages, optimizes the functions of other safety systems ESP, ASR, ABS and BAS. The computer calculates the required braking force and distributes it purposefully to the wheels. In addition to the technical delights, multicontour seats with dynamic multicontour function are available on request. If necessary, he can massage the back and legs. Eight airbags can be noted (two front, four side for front and rear passengers, two side overhead air curtains), as well as automatic opening and closing of the trunk. As additional equipment it will be installed new system cruise control and proprietary COMAND entertainment system.

A whole range of modern engines is available for the new product. To begin with, they will offer proven gasoline and diesel engines with a displacement of 2.2-5.0 liters in the power range of 150-306 hp. 177-horsepower 2.4-liter engine and 3.2-liter engine with 224 horsepower. Later, a five-liter V8 with a capacity of 306 “horses” was added to this series from Mercedes S-Class. Diesel engines: 220 CDI with 150 horsepower and 270 CDI with 177 horsepower. This set was replenished with a 197-horsepower 320 CDI engine, and since March 2003, a four-liter V8 with 260 horsepower. All models (except E320 and E500) are equipped with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a hydromechanical adaptive 5-speed automatic transmission.

Now the E-class has received three new engines at once - gasoline and two diesel. Two of these new power units can be called “budget”, because they are more economical. The first of the new engines is a 1.8-liter gasoline engine, the power of which has been increased to 163 hp thanks to the use of a mechanical supercharger. The maximum torque of this motor of 240 Nm is achieved in the range from 3,000 to 4,000 rpm. The Mercedes E 200 Kompressor consumes 8.4 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers and its top speed reaches 230 km/h.

Another new product is a four-cylinder turbodiesel engine with direct injection fuel. The 122-horsepower two-liter engine allows you to reach a top speed of 203 km/h. At the same time new engine very economical - average consumption fuel is 6.3 liters.

And the third new product was another 3.2-liter diesel engine. Its power has been increased to 204 hp. The E-Class with this engine accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, and its top speed is 243 km/h.

The apotheosis of the engine program is the E 55 AMG, which provides acceleration to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. The “charged” E-Class sedan, which was worked on by specialists from the AMG tuning studio, has a 5.5-liter V8 engine with a capacity of 476 horsepower, and its top speed is limited to 250 kilometers per hour. E 55 AMG as standard! equipped with a novelty in global technical thought - AIRMATIC Dual Control semi-active air suspension. The constant clearance of the car is controlled electronically. When cornering at high speeds, the system automatically “tightens” the suspension, reducing the amplitude of the lateral and longitudinal swing of the body.

Autumn 2002 Mercedes E-Class received a 4Matic all-wheel drive system. For now, buyers will only be able to order the 4Matic system for gasoline versions of the E-Class, namely the E240 with a 177-horsepower engine, the E320 with a 224-horsepower engine, and the E500 with a 306-horsepower engine. All all-wheel drive versions of the Mercedes E-Class are 10 millimeters higher than the base models due to the higher position of the body above the road.

The latest generation Mercedes E-Class lineup may soon be replenished with several new modifications. Since 2003, buyers can purchase a station wagon based on the Mercedes E-Class. Its all-wheel drive version is already available. And not so long ago, an AMG version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class station wagon was released - the E 55 AMG with a V8 turbo engine, which made it the most powerful station wagon in the world. The car accelerates to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds, while its predecessor required 5.9 seconds. Maximum speed its limited to 250 km/h.

Next in model range E-Class should appear as a limousine - a version of the sedan extended by 50 centimeters. This car will receive luxury equipment and will be intended for those who want to have a representative car, but are not yet ready to pay a significant amount for a similar version of the Mercedes S-Class.

Finally, the latest addition to the Mercedes E-Class series will be a four-door coupe. This car will appear in 2005 and will receive a slightly different body design.

In 2006, the world premiere took place at the International Auto Show in New York. updated Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which sets new standards and sets new benchmarks. During the next modernization, the car acquired new engines, sports suspension and additional funds security. Although, by and large, there are not so many changes in appearance, the designers did a good job of refreshing the appearance of the model. Among the new things in appearance are the changed shape of the bumpers, radiator grille, sills and rear-view mirrors.

Inside the cabin, a stylish four-spoke steering wheel has appeared and the climate control panel has changed, which is now included in the basic equipment package. In total, buyers were offered 29 model options - 16 modifications of the sedan and 13 modifications of the station wagon.

The standard equipment of the updated Mercedes E-Class includes the Pre Safe safety system, which debuted on the S-Class in 2002. As soon as the sensors installed on the car “suspect” the risk of a collision, the seat backs and head restraints automatically take the correct position and the seat belt pretensioners are activated. Neck Pro head restraints with touch sensors protect the head of the driver and front passenger. Flashing brake lights are standard equipment on the updated E-Class. The driver of the next car reacts to a flashing light 0.2 seconds faster than to a steady light. Plus the innovative Intelligent Light System. The headlights now automatically change the intensity and direction of the light beam depending on the speed. For the most active drivers, the Direct control package is designed, with sharper steering and stiffer suspension. In total, almost 2,000 parts in the car have been newly developed or redesigned.

The updated E-Class comes with ten various engines, six of which have undergone significant modernization. The diesel line consists of the E 200 CDI, E 220 CDI and E 320 CDI, and starting in the fall of 2006, cars supplied to the United States began to be equipped with the E 320 BLUETEC - the cleanest diesel engine in the world, according to the company. BLUETEC, in addition, consumes 20-40% less fuel than gasoline engines of the same power. The power of the most modest version, the E 200 Kompressor, was increased to 184 hp, and the top model received a 5.5-liter V8 with 388 hp, previously installed on the S-Class. The E 500 accelerates to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds.

The “charged” version from the AMG studio received a naturally aspirated V8 with a power of 514 hp, which is 38 horses more than its predecessor E 55 AMG.

The fourth generation of the E-Class W212 was shown in early January 2009 at the Detroit Auto Show. There is no trace left of the elegant, sophisticated image of its predecessor, created six years ago under the supervision of former chief designer Peter Pfeiffer. The car has retained its “four-eyed” look, but the headlights are now not oval (as was the case in previous generations), but diamond-shaped. The sharp edges, as new chief designer Gordon Wagener emphasizes, are a memory of the Mercedes W120/121 model of the fifties, nicknamed Ponton, the predecessor of the E-Class.

The Mercedes E-class traditionally sets standards for competitors in its class. Every detail, from interior materials to numerous security systems, speaks of the high status of the car. The sedan has grown noticeably in its main parameters. The length increased by 14 mm (to 4868 mm), the wheelbase stretched by 20 mm (to 2874), the width increased by 32 mm (to 1854 mm), and the height decreased by 13 mm (to 1470).

The station wagon premiered at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009. Compared to predecessor new station wagon longer by 50 millimeters, and the volume of the luggage compartment with the second row seats folded will remain the same - 1950 liters. In addition, the trunk door and a soft curtain that hides the contents of the compartment from prying eyes will receive a servo drive in all versions, including the basic one.

The 212 E-Class family now includes a coupe and a convertible. The E-Class coupe (body code C207) was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2009. This is the second coupe in the E-class family after the W124 body. As standard, the E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is the world's most streamlined production coupe, with a Cx of just 0.24. The coupe is assembled at the Bremen plant.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class convertible (body code A207) was presented to the public at the 2010 North American International Auto Show. This is the second convertible in the E-class family after the W124 body. The convertible is equipped with a fabric soft folding roof that folds or opens in 20 seconds, and this can be done either from the roof control button from the cabin or from the button on the key. The roof mechanism is ordered from Karmann. According to Mercedes-Benz, the roof is designed to last 20,000 folding cycles. The convertible is equipped with AirScarf and AirCap systems. AirScarf - delivers warm air to the necks of the driver and front passenger. And when AirCap is activated, a spoiler extends from the upper frame of the windshield and a wind shield behind the rear headrests, which divert air flow when the car is moving, making the cabin quiet and wind-free.

At the Beijing Auto Show in 2010, a version of the sedan extended by 14 cm was presented. The car will receive the index “L”, its length is 5012 mm, and the wheelbase is 3014 mm.

The interior is designed in the spirit of the C-Class and GLK: the same angular center console, the same architectural design of the dashboard. The interior design uses expensive leather on the chairs, metal fittings, high-quality plastic, and even optical fibers invisible to the eye, emitting an amber glow from under the trim on the doors and dashboard. The standard version of the seats with their textured soft upholstery provides a high level of comfort during long journeys and optimal lateral support even with a very sporty driving style. Dynamic multicontour seats are available as an option for the driver and front passenger. Their separately adjustable air chambers allow the contour of the seat to be optimally adapted to the individual shape of the seated person. The side support protrusions adjust automatically and dynamically, depending on the vehicle's driving characteristics. Seat cushion depth, side bolsters and lumbar support are pneumatically adjustable. Additional comfort will be provided by the seven-zone dynamic massage function and enhanced comfort headrests.

The rear area is spacious, especially with the optional split seats. In addition, these seats are equipped with heating and superior headrests. Second-row passengers also benefit from rear door sun visors and a center armrest with two integrated drink holders.

It’s interesting that if cars with four-cylinder engines have levers of a five-speed automatic transmission and manual transmission gears are located on the central tunnel, then more expensive versions with “six” and seven-speed “automatic” 7G-Tronic have a selector lever on the steering column.

The standard equipment includes the ATTENTION ASSIST driver fatigue detection system, which detects signs of driver fatigue based on his driving style and begins to issue warning signals. In general, the Mercedes-Benz E-class 2009 launched with a number of innovative solutions: full automatic braking in the event of a direct threat of collision, an adaptive headlight control system. The Mercedes E 212 comes standard with an electronic safety system (ESP) and airbags. The body, with 30% increased rigidity and 75% of it, is made from high-strength steel.

The range of power units is amazing: there are five diesel versions alone: E 200 CDI, 220 CDI, 250 CDI, 350 CDI and 350 Bluetec. The first three diesel versions are equipped with the same four-cylinder engine with double sequential turbocharging, but in three boost options: 136 hp, 170 and 204. The E 350 CDI and E 350 Bluetec modifications also differ in output: the less environmentally friendly version of the CDI is more powerful - 231 power versus 211. Five more petrol engines: E 200 CGI, 250 CGI, 350 CGI, E 350 4MATIC and E 500. Two younger, unpopular V6 engines 2.5 and 3.0 disappeared from the range, and with them the E230 and E280 versions.

The front McPherson struts and the rear “multi-link” are adapted for the use of shock absorbers with variable resistance: either “passive”, with amplitude-dependent characteristics, or electronically controlled. Moreover, for the first time in the E-class, the latter work in tandem with air suspension: it is standardly installed on versions with a V8 engine and, for an additional fee, on six-cylinder cars.

The highest safety measures, reliability, exquisite handling and dynamics are the integral qualities of a real car, which is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

In January 2013, the updated Mercedes-Benz E-class family was presented at the Detroit Auto Show. After restyling, the car received a number of fundamentally new stylistic solutions. The main thing is that the four-section headlights characteristic of the E-class are a thing of the past; now the head optics are single block headlights. By the way, completely LED headlights head light is on the options list. The changes to the front end aren't just limited to the new headlights. The Germans also redesigned the hood and front bumper. The rear of the modernized car due to modified rear wings and LED lights of a new shape looks more elongated and elegant. Sportier versions of the E-Class will receive a large badge mounted into the grille, while base models come with a classic “sight” on the hood. The body color is offered in 2 non-metallic enamels, namely “Calcite and Black”, as well as 10 metallics.

There are not many changes to the interior, but they are quite noticeable. Restyled versions received a new design dashboard, on which there are three dials, the on-board computer screen is located in the central dial. The center console was designed differently, on which there is now a stylish analog clock. Among the interior innovations, it is also worth noting the multifunction steering wheel, which can be 2, 3 or 4-spoke depending on the buyer’s preferences. In addition, an analog clock appeared in the cabin. The highest quality and most expensive materials are offered for interior decoration, including aluminum and real wood. The trunk volume is about 540 liters; when the second row is folded, the volume increases to 1,220 liters.

The line of power units, as before, is represented by gasoline, diesel and hybrid engines. The base gasoline engine was a 184-horsepower 2-liter unit for the E200 version. The diesel line starts with a 2.1-liter engine producing 136 hp. for E200 CDI. The new product will be the E400 version, which will receive a turbocharged petrol V6 with a capacity of 333 horsepower. But this engine will join the range of power units only in the fall of 2013. The flagship will remain the E500 with a 408-horsepower V8. All engines meet high environmental standards and demonstrate a modest “appetite”. A choice of a couple of engines can be a six-speed manual gearbox or a 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission with seven positions.

The rich equipment of the car deserves special attention. electronic assistants. The electronic assistants equipped with the updated E-class are linked into a single solution called Intelligent Drive. One of the main suppliers of information for electronics will be a stereo camera located in the area of the interior mirror, which is capable of monitoring what is happening at a distance of 500 m. Based on this data and on the readings of additional radars, active cruise control systems, monitoring compliance with markings and saving Lane Keeping Assist, a pedestrian monitoring system that can initiate pre-emptive braking to avoid a collision, and a rear collision insurance system. In addition, the family will receive adaptive headlights, active parking assistant, an all-round camera and a road sign tracking system.

Mercedes E-class, 2016

So, Mercedes E-class E 220, diesel. Black. Black leather interior. There were 2 options - E200 and 150 horses and E220 and 194 horses. I chose the second one. Many people won’t understand why, but I live where there is a real European winter and -15 here is a natural disaster. Diesel on good gas stations Ours is normal, but the consumption is actually 25-30% less. AdBlue fluid is filled in once every 15,000 kilometers and its presence does not bother you at all. The transmission is a real automatic with 9 speeds. The transmission is the same 7-speed automatic with two high speeds. Salon. Black leather. The inserts on the dashboard and doors are not wood, but aluminum. Compared to the C-class, the interior of the Mercedes E-class is actually wider and the distance between the front and rear seats more. Also, the seats in front and back are a little larger, making it more comfortable to sit. And now about the most important thing - the “goodies”. "The mayor." I wouldn't consider the car without this premium audio system. Having had a bad experience with my previous car, I knew I had to pay for music. Otherwise, I will listen to the radio station from the Soviet yesterday. Team It was possible to abandon it, but Audio 20 is clearly functionally reduced. Two large digital monitors that look like one, unlike the S-Class. LED headlights. They are installed directly in the database. The light is beautiful always and everywhere. 6 - three braking systems - normal, emergency and emergency. The trunk is really large, with the ability to fold down either just the tunnel or all the rear row seats. On the move, the Mercedes E-class is very much reminiscent of the 140th Mercedes, which is considered the standard, in terms of smoothness. She really floats above the road and feels high speed you don’t feel it in the Mercedes E-class, although the speedometer already shows 160. It picks up speed like a very fast diesel locomotive - quickly and confidently. At the same time, there is absolutely no shoving of the box. Consumption - at a speed of 140 and above on the autobahn it consumes 5.3 liters per hundred. With a mixed cycle, he eats about 6 liters. In a clean city with its traffic jams - 7 or a little more. Well, very rarely above 7.5 liters per hundred. As a professional driver, I can adequately assess that the car is designed to quickly cover hundreds of kilometers.

Advantages : comfort. Landing. Audio system Burmistr. Lighting.

Flaws : No.

Mercedes E-class, 2016

The cost of a Mercedes E-class, taking into account the discount, is 4 million and as much as 8 thousand rubles. The salon caused a “wow effect”. The quality of the optional acoustics (80 thousand rubles) is incomparable, but it doesn’t feel very powerful. Do you want 1.5 kW? Mercedes will be happy to supply them to you for an additional 10,000 euros, but in Russia, as the dealer said, no one has ever ordered this option, even for the S class. Noise insulation is the next level, don't complain. On Lexuses, by the way, the noise from the tires was unnerving at speeds over 80; Mercedes doesn’t allow this to happen. Moreover, if you pay another 100 plus, then the Shumka would be even better and double glass. The dynamics of the car are normal, that’s what I can say, acceleration according to the passport is just over 7 seconds. The only thing is that I would like more active acceleration at speeds over 100. But in the city it’s quite enough. The expense for such a ship is decent. The Mercedes E-class does not provoke me to drive; I only drive economy. You roll for yourself and watch the bustle outside the window. The suspension is excellent (except for the runflat wheels with a low profile), moderately elastic, on Mercedes of older generations it is softer, now they are going the other way, I think it’s better. It “steers” excellently, even compared to the previous generation, much sharper, especially since you can change the steering wheel setting to a more sporty one. The only thing that makes me feel cold inside is sharp potholes on the road, then the body gets hit like a hammer on the fingers. But at least I have 10 fingers, and I have one car, or rather two (the second one is cheaper). Having driven around Europe in a rental Mazda 3 on runflat wheels, I can say that it’s also not a fountain; on excellent European roads it’s also a bit harsh on such tires. Mercedes is more comfortable on our roads.

Advantages : suspension comfort. Convenience of the salon. Ride quality. Design.

Flaws : little things.

Mercedes E-class, 2016

Hello. Mercedes E-class W213. At the end of February, after several nights of thought and calculations, I decided to purchase of this car. I myself drive a W212 2011. E200 Sport package, 3,430,000. The choice is obvious to me, since I only like E-shocks in the AMG package. It included: a panoramic roof, lowered suspension, R19 wheels, body kits and a number of others electronic systems. Among the options - white pearl color 114,000. Audio system Burmistr 85,000. Full power seats 120,000. Additional noise insulation measures 110,000. I travel a lot on the highway, I decided to try it. The car is very pleasant to drive and drive. So far I like everything. I'll add my feelings later.

Advantages : equipment. Appearance. Excellent handling. Dynamics.

Flaws : price.

Mercedes E-class, 2016

You can't write a review after 500 km, so this is just a first impression. It's very good. The “pneuma” of the Mercedes E-class in “comfort” (while running in) is dense, but not oak, it even seems to be trying to float, the joints, trams, police are excellent. But the 20th radius and 30th profile allow you to feel all the small bumps and ice. According to the noise on the arches, it’s 100% a conspiracy. It makes noise like bare metal. Didn't order - listen to the miser. I'll listen, I didn't order it. The rest is silence. Of course, the car is not for winter, so the coming months will only show the exterior and interior. Fortunately, all processes in the graphs are drawn three (at least) times, and there are also a ton of output combinations. So the interesting mosaic will not be boring until spring, and then the asphalt will dry out.

Advantages : wonderful car.

Flaws : sound insulation of arches. The suspension is harsh at the 20th radius.

Mercedes E-class, 2017

We spent a very long time choosing a car for our beloved, and when we got into the Mercedes showroom, the choice in favor of the Mercedes E-class was definitely made. The interior of the car is simply gorgeous and attracts the attention of passersby. I can say unequivocally - Sport package for this car it was a must. We went for a test drive in a simpler car - it looks so-so. And when we looked at this model, everything became clear. Now a little more about some of the nuances of the Mercedes E-class. Suspension and smooth ride - that was a surprise for everyone, where the vaunted smooth ride and even the comfort mode do not allow you to enjoy a pleasant ride, of course, the whole problem may be in the “runflat” and it was decided to install normal tires in the winter to test this theory, the only bad luck is that you will have to carry spare tire in the trunk. Parking sensors - well, Mercedes can’t make parking convenient. I had to drive a lot in BMWs and Audis, where the work of the parking sensors is very clear and logical, but here everything is different, it beeps and that’s it - then it beeps only when there is absolutely nothing left. Moreover, they asked the dealer to fix it, but they said that this was not possible, and it was definitely not convenient to use the parking assistant. I can say that Burmester acoustics are a positive thing - they are definitely better than BOSE and Harman. Virtual panel - in comparison with other German cars, they approached it with soul, setting up this panel allows you to find the optimal and convenient option. How it was possible not to install a trunk closing button on such an expensive car, I personally don’t understand, this is not a Zhiguli, but a business class car, in one word - a disgrace. The dealer offered to install a power increase unit - this was very attractive. So while the car is pleasing with its appearance, it drives clearly mediocre. Mercedes is a beautiful picture, but in terms of practicality, convenience and driving characteristics it is clearly inferior to its competitors.

Advantages : beautiful view. Nice salon. Expensive finishing.

Flaws : hard suspension.

Mercedes E-class, 2018

Compared to the BMW, the Mercedes E-class has a more solid, rich, presentable, organic appearance, while being the most modern and promising in the class (less sporty than the BMW, less technical than the Audi). It is more conducive to enjoying being in the car itself, and measured control, although it gives emotions when driving (a little less drive than a BMW, a little weaker in a straight line from 0 to 100 than an Audi). The inside is more organic, technological, and promising. Chic design, finishing materials (yes, artificial leather compared to Audi, but the difference is not noticeable). Trouble-free 9-speed gearbox (unlike BMW and Audi) and engine (unlike Audi) 4 year warranty (unlike BMW). I'm extremely pleased with the car. Associations are only positive. A sense of proportion and style, emotional pleasure, admiration, satisfaction, delight. All these words are about Mercedes E-class.

Advantages : appearance. Safety. Reliability. Suspension. Noise insulation. Controllability. Comfort. Salon design. Transmission. Build quality. Multimedia.

Flaws : price. Dynamics.

Mercedes E-class, 2017

In general, having bought a Mercedes E-class and driven it, I’ll tell you what. I won’t buy a Japanese one again - it’s just an indescribable feeling, I’ve never felt such pleasure from a car. I still want to go somewhere quickly, even if I don’t really need to go there. The interior is just a fairy tale, it makes this car 10 out of 10. At night it’s like you’re driving a spaceship, the dynamic lighting does its job. The seats are comfortable, the on-board computer is simple and clear. The music "Burmister" is fire (there is even better, but the prices are higher). 2 liters of turbo is enough for the city, the acceleration is great. There were cameras all over the city and now I don’t accelerate above 70 at all, and it’s not just me, but the whole city. There is an “active sport” mode - this is when you barely touch the pedals and the car accelerates without delay, but I only drive in comfort. Four-wheel drive It drives confidently through snowdrifts and has never gotten stuck. Control. I don’t even know how to describe it, but you feel the car completely. You can say that you are one with the car, the Camry and the Phoenix, as if there were some kind of troughs after it. The lateral support of the seats helps a lot with this. The car is 19 hard. He really doesn't like rare holes. If you want to remove the hardness, you need to install 17 wheels and you will be happy, but I like 19, I won’t change (I saw that some comrades put 20). There are all sorts of tricks, like you open the trunk with your foot (it’s big, by the way), it parks itself (who needs it), it brakes itself if you’re lazy and you’re flying into someone’s ass. Suction cups on the doors (cool thing). The first maintenance cost only 30 thousand rubles (checking light bulbs 3 thousand rubles, checking air filter 3 thousand rubles. and so on). There is only one thing that infuriates me about the Mercedes E-class - the emergency warning button. It's not possible to get used to it at all.

Advantages : design. Ergonomics and functions. Engine. Suspension.

Flaws : emergency warning button.

1947 Mercedes 170V

After the end of the Great Patriotic War in 1945, the Mercedes company had not yet thought about developing its new car models. Therefore, after the end of the war, a pre-war model of the Mercedes 170 V was sent to the assembly line. In 1947, 400 of these cars were produced.

Despite the modesty of the car this model 170 V in those years was, despite the spartan appearance of its interior.

1949 Mercedes 170 S Cabriolet A

In 1949, based on the 170 S model, a two-door convertible with a lot of chrome trim was introduced to the public. But this car was not very popular at that time, since it was incredibly expensive for that money, about 16 thousand German marks.

1953 Mercedes 180

In 1953 car company Mercedes made a leap into modernity and released the Mercedes 180 model with a self-supporting body. As a result, thanks to new technologies, the car received a modern one. The body shape of the car was simply called “Ponton”.

Model 170 vs Model 180

Here is a direct comparison of two generations of Mercedes cars. In the center is the 170 V model. On the left is the 180 model, which went into production in 1953. This picture clearly shows what a huge step forward the Mercedes company took when it introduced the Mercedes 180 car model to its own and then to the world market. It is worth noting that both cars, after the appearance of the 180th car model, were produced for several years on the same factory in parallel.

1956 Mercedes-190

The success of modern design was not long in coming. In the photo you can see a full parking lot of Mercedes cars. This parking lot is intended for sending cars to customers. Initially, the Mercedes 180th model was equipped with a 52-horsepower 1.8-liter engine. A little later, in 1956, this car additionally received its new 1.9 liter engine with 75 hp. This is how the first and well-known 190th Mercedes model was born.

Mercedes 180/190

Traditionally, in those years, the Mercedes company, in addition to civilian models based on them, also produced a platform for special vehicles. For example, the Mercedes company produced cars for ambulances and other government agencies in the country. As a rule, cars left the factory without their rear end, onto which the required type of body was subsequently installed for a specific special service.

1961 Mercedes 190 "Heckfloss"

The Mercedes company has never officially admitted that it specifically monitors and follows its influence. But in 1961, the Mercedes 190 model with rear wings, which were fashionable at that time, was introduced to the car market."

1965 Mercedes 200 "Heckfloss"

The car with unusual rear wings was also supplied to the police. In those years, middle-class cars looked more like full-size cars than middle class and therefore caused great dissatisfaction among consumers. People demanded a more compact model from the manufacturer.

1968 Mercedes 200-280 "Stroke Eight" W114/W115

Soon after the appearance of the fashionable rear "fin", the Mercedes company decided to design and back car with a more classic style. The point here is this: the world fashion for “fins” of the rear wings quickly passed and as a result, the Mercedes company in 1968 was forced to release its new model car under the factory code designation "/8", in the back of W114.

Despite the bright and not very beautiful body colors, this car model “/8” sold 1 million 800 thousand copies, enjoying incredible popularity among its customers.

After the G8 facelift, this car received a new steering wheel with large notched ribs on the steering wheel itself (impact absorbers). In the event of an accident, it absorbed the driver's impact on the steering wheel, thereby reducing the consequences. The wooden steering wheel on the car was available only in top versions.

1968 Mercedes 250 Coupe

In 1968, a coupe version of the popular G8 was introduced to the market. True, the proportions of the body itself were not without contradictions and left much to be desired. A total of 67 thousand copies of this model were produced.

1974 Mercedes 240 D 3.0

In 1974, Mercedes introduced a new car model with a 3.0-liter engine to the market. diesel engine(W115 body). Power power plant was 80 hp. Maximum speed -148 km/h.

Tests

In the 70s, Mercedes worked on the creation. To conduct tests to ensure driver safety, the car was equipped with special protection. But no matter what the protection was, it did not always help out; in some cases, during testing, drivers more than once received serious injuries. Ultimately, such testing was strictly prohibited at the state level.

1976 Mercedes W 123

The Mercedes car in this 123rd body is the most recognizable in the world. The popularity of this car model is largely due to the scope of its application. It was especially popular in the taxi industry, so the car became a definite symbol of taxi transportation throughout Europe. Here's the thing. When the car entered the market in 1976, the Mercedes company in Germany was the only car company that was officially allowed to produce vehicles for taxi companies and private taxis. And as a result, the German car company, having released a diesel model of the Mercedes W123 painted yellow, began to supply its cars to all major taxi companies in Germany on an ongoing basis.

Mercedes W123 interior

At the end of the 70s, a huge number of people could afford to buy this car, since the standard of living in Germany at that time, due to the growing well-being of the population, was growing at a decent pace, and such a rather conservative cost of this car model did not bother anyone then. For example, the interior of the W123 car in its usual configuration was quite modest, and this is what allowed it to become the most popular in the world at that time. Especially among taxi companies, for which the cost of the car is usually very important.

In total, about 2.4 million copies were produced and released for sale. In particular, a huge number of these cars were sold to German law enforcement agencies from 1976 to 1985.

1977 Mercedes W 123 Long version

In the 70s, buses as taxis were in rather low demand. Therefore, as a passenger alternative, Mercedes introduced its long version of the W123 model in 1977, which was also sold en masse to all taxi fleets in Germany. The car had a length of 5.35 meters and accommodated 7 passengers + driver.

1977 Mercedes W 123 Coupe

Unlike the not very proportional coupe in the W114/W115 body, the two-door model in the W123 body received an elongated body (+9 centimeters to the wheelbase, compared to cars in the W114 and W115 bodies). The surprising thing here is that just 9 centimeters were able to transform the appearance of this coupe. Ultimately, the two-door Mercedes W123 car received a fantastic exterior. This car was mainly sold in the USA.

1977 Mercedes W 123 T-Model (Station wagon)

In 1977, Mercedes introduced a little updated car.

Mercedes W 123 Electric

Today, electric cars have become all the rage. But, when no one had thought about electric ones yet and many thought that the cost of fuel at a gas station would always be equal to the cost of 1 liter of water, the Mercedes company was already fully developing its model electric car based on W123 body. True, at that time, bulky and heavy batteries occupied the entire luggage compartment of this station wagon.

Mercedes W 123 pickup

The W123 pickup truck was so popular that even commercial pickup trucks were produced on its basis, albeit in small numbers.

1977 Mercedes W 123 Rally

In 1977, the Mercedes team won the grueling London-Sydney race in a Mercedes E280.

1984 Mercedes W 124

Many motorists around the world regard the car as the latest and true classic car with a special legendary spirit in its class. Although at the initial stage the car received many negative reviews, especially from the army of thousands of taxi drivers who complained about the poor quality of the car.

Despite negative criticism and low reviews, the Mercedes W124 coupe was introduced to the car market in 1985.

Mercedes W 124 AMG Coupe

In the 1980s, AMG was not yet part of the Daimler-Benz (Mercedes) industrial group. Therefore, tuning was carried out on the basis of AMG’s own lines. After the appearance of the W124 body in 1984, AMG launched the Mercedes 300 CE 3.4 AMG with a 3.3-liter gasoline engine with a power of 272 horsepower.

1990 Mercedes W 124 Long version

In 1990, Mercedes released an extra-long version of the mid-size car for the last time. A special feature of the Mercedes E260 was its length, which was 5.46 meters, it had six side doors. Since then, Mercedes has no longer produced long versions of these middle class cars (E-class).

Mercedes W 124 Ambulance

The Mercedes company also produced W124 models in large quantities for ambulance services and other medical clinics.

1992 Mercedes W 124 Convertible

From 1992 to 1997 the company. In total, more than 34 thousand copies were produced.

1993 Mercedes W 124 "E-Class"

1995 Mercedes W 210

In 1995, Mercedes made a radical departure from the classic design of its products and released the controversial E-class of cars in the back of the W210. For a long time, many Mercedes lovers could not get used to the four round headlights.

In 1998, a diesel car model with the Common Rail Diesel system entered the market. But despite the extraordinary design of the new E-Class in the back of the W210, numerous critical lampoons began to be directed at the car, i.e. Criticism of various kinds emerged. The main problem became for the car. Surprisingly, the fact remains that this car was covered in rust in just a few years.

1996 Mercedes W 210 T-Model (Station wagon)

In 1996, the Mercedes W210 entered the market as a station wagon with a huge trunk volume.

1998 Mercedes CLK Convertible

This car is based and not created on the C or E-class, as many car enthusiasts think. The convertible car is based and created on the so-called hybrid platform of two famous cars(C and E classes).

2001 Mercedes W 211

In 2001, Mercedes introduced the model to the market. The car's four-headlight optics still remained round and only slightly changed in appearance. But there were no longer any in this body. Mercedes has taken into account criticism and all complaints previous model W210. But this W211 model presented car owners with new problems, which were primarily associated with SBC electro-hydraulic brakes. In 2006, this problem was eliminated when the company's restyled model was introduced to the market.

2006 Mercedes W 211 Guard

Since mid-2006 Mercedes car The E-Class has already become available. The model had its own designation - W211 Guard. This car was created for those who fear for their safety.

2003 Mercedes W 211 T-Model

At the beginning of 2003, Mercedes showed its W211 model in the back.

Different generations of E-class station wagon

Here is a family portrait of several generations of the E-Class station wagon (T-model). In all its generations, the car's trunk had a large amount of cargo space.

2009 Mercedes W 212

In 2009, it was introduced to the car market, which revolutionized the appearance of the car (especially from the front). The engineers still left the car with four headlights, but instead of round headlights, the design of the optics now has sharp corners. Despite its revolutionary design appearance, the car was not a great success, and all because of stiff competition from companies and, which were ahead of this Mercedes in sales of middle-class cars. A flurry of demand for this car began after the body of the W212 car was restyled in 2013.

Here is a working and approved sketch of a W212 coupe.

Mercedes E 63 AMG (W 212)

This hot version of the E-Class was produced with the AMG division and had power ranging from 525 to 585 hp, depending on the year of production. The model was sold under the designation - .

2013 Mercedes W 212 Revolutionary restyling

In front of you in the photo is the whole family, which was taken in 2013. The most noticeable change is the disappearance of four headlights from the front of the car.

After restyling, this E-Class Coupe model replaced the CLK model. This E-class car in a coupe and convertible body was not actually based on the W212 E-class platform known to us; this coupe and convertible were created and built on the C-class platform.

2016 Mercedes W 213
