We evaluate the resource of the Skoda Octavia engine. Skoda Octavia A5 in the secondary market Feelings behind the wheel of the Octavia A5

Today, the S-class Skoda Octavia is very popular among motorists throughout Europe. The sedan is distinguished by good handling, reliability and high quality assemblies. In total, three generations of cars were produced, with the release of an updated version of the sedan, as a rule, there was the release of new power plants.

All this has contributed to the fact that the current line of Skoda Octavia engines is replete with abundance and in some way complicates the choice for the buyer. Experienced drivers recommend paying attention to the resource of the Skoda Octavia engine, so you can significantly narrow the circle of the highest quality power units.

Engine resource 1.2 TSI

This engine is equipped with one of the most popular trim levels - Skoda Octavia A7. For lovers of dynamic, high-speed driving, a turbodiesel with a capacity of 105 forces is more than enough. Often, owners of the A7 also carry out chip tuning, thanks to which it is possible to improve the car's speed performance, increase power performance and equip the sedan with additional software.

This engine boasts really high power levels combined with optimal fuel consumption. But he also has problems with the timing chain, which makes itself felt closer to the 300 thousand km mark. In general, up to this mileage, significant problems with the engine have not yet been noticed. It's reliable enough power unit, which is able to overcome 300-400 thousand km without significant repairs.

The resource of the power unit Skoda Octavia 1.4

Base 1.4-liter engine with 80 Horse power- one of the most affordable and sought-after engines in the line. However, many car owners note that the power of the Skoda Octavia with a similar modification under the hood is clearly not enough. This equipment is perfect for those who need a car for every day. The features of this build are as follows:

  • Direct fuel injection;
  • Dual boost;
  • Smaller dimensions.

Such changes in the constructive plan contribute to greater efficiency of the car. But, Skoda Octavia 1.4 is not without some drawbacks - often there are problems with the lubrication system. At the turn of 300 thousand kilometers, the first problems with the timing chain tensioner appear, often there are problems with nozzles. In general, the engine, due to its simplified design, has a longer resource than the 1.6 MPI modification. Among the owners, you can easily find those whose Skoda Octavia 1.4 has successfully overcome the mark of 350-400 thousand km.

Engine resource 1.6 MPI

All three generations of Skoda Octavia cars were equipped with this motor. Made by technology Volkswagen engine high dynamic characteristics. It is for this reason that most sedans produced before 1998 had 1.6 MPI under the hood. The most successful assembly is considered Skoda Octavia A5. In 1998, the company's engineers decided to upgrade the motor. As a result of the modernization, vehicles equipped with this installation have shown a significant reduction in fuel consumption. The marks were set at the following level:

  • In the urban cycle, 7.5-8 liters per 100 kilometers;
  • In the extra-urban cycle, fuel consumption dropped to 6 liters per 100 km;
  • Mixed cycle 7 liters;

Everything would be fine, only the 1.6 MPI engine, after the modernization, began to increasingly show malfunctions and interruptions that were previously unusual for it. BUT overhaul engine has become practically unfeasible. A run of up to 200 thousand kilometers guarantees reliability, but after that unforeseen expenses may begin. This should be taken into account when choosing a car for secondary market. Many car owners note that this type of engine is able to travel 400 or more thousand kilometers, but on one condition that scheduled maintenance is carried out on time.

Russian buyers have long and firmly fallen in love with representatives of the golf class, especially if they are made in a sedan body. One of the favorites of the domestic car enthusiast was and remains the Skoda Octavia in the back of the A5, and after the restyling of the second generation of the model, the level of its consumer attractiveness has greatly increased.

The start of the second generation of the Skoda Octavia A5 took place in 2004, and the car that filled the showrooms of dealers was shown to the public today at the International Motor Show in Paris 2008.

By and large, no radical changes have taken place. Following the tradition of the “big brother” represented by the Volkswagen Group, Skoda designers slightly changed the shape of the front optics and bumper, and also slightly corrected rear lights. Nevertheless, despite the almost completely preserved concept of appearance, Octavia began to look fresh, fully fitting into the current model line Czech company.

With more than impressive dimensions (4569 x 1769 x 1462, wheelbase length 2578 mm), new Skoda Octavia A5, as expected, is able to provide a decent level of comfort to all the inhabitants of the cabin.

The driver will be pleased with the extensive range of seat and steering wheel adjustments (tilt and reach), as well as the new dashboard. Its changes are in other dials, which, unfortunately, have become a little less informative, and more pleasing to the eye with white backlight, while before the eyesight was irritated by a caustic green glow.

All the functions you need, whether it's audio control or air conditioner are at hand for both the driver and the front passenger. Moreover, in order to master their work, one glance is enough, since the keys and displays are arranged in German clearly and thoughtfully.

The material prevailing in the interior of the Skoda Octavia FL is soft plastic, pleasant both to look at and to the touch. But when driving on pavement or poor quality roads, the interior trim allows for unpleasant squeaks. One of the reasons for this phenomenon is not the highest rigidity of the car body.

Of course, the main advantage of the Skoda Octavia A5 is the trunk. On the Russian market The car is offered in two body styles - liftback and station wagon (Combi). If everything is clear with the second, then the first is nothing more than a five-door hatchback.

The volume of the luggage compartment of such a car is 560 liters. The successful layout of the compartment, coupled with a huge opening for loading and the possibility of luggage directly to the glass, make the Octavia A5 one of the class leaders in this indicator.

If the initial volume of the trunk is not enough, then the folding seatbacks will increase it to cargo 1,350 liters. The station wagon has even more impressive indicators - the volume of the luggage compartment, depending on the position of the rear sofa, varies from 580 to 1,630 liters.

In terms of dynamics and controllability, the Skoda Octavia A5, albeit not by much, still loses a little to its competitors. The most popular and interesting engines are the 1.4 and 1.8-liter TSI engines, but due to the availability, the 1400 cc power unit remains in high esteem among buyers.

In fact, this is the same engine that is installed on, but on the Octavia A5 it lacks a compressor, limiting itself to one turbine. Nevertheless, the motor is very elastic, and paired with a 7-band preselective DSG robotic box, it actively picks up speed in any gear.

In urban conditions, this is more than enough, all the more so since fuel consumption during not very active movement varies at the mark of 7.0 liters per 100 kilometers. But on high-speed highways, a 122-horsepower TSI may not be enough. At high speeds, acceleration is not so assertive, so when overtaking slow neighbors downstream, it is better to switch to a lower gear early, as the traction reserve may simply not be enough.

The handling of the Skoda Octavia A5 is not the sharpest, but thanks to the good setting of the electric power steering, there is feedback on the steering wheel. Nevertheless, the rapid passage of turns is not the element of Skoda, since the car allows for noticeable, albeit not very large, body rolls.

But all this does not apply to the "hot" version of the Octavia RS. In our market, such an Octavia is offered exclusively in a liftback body and is equipped with a 2.0-liter TSI motor paired with the "robot" DSG. This car equipped with a sports-tuned suspension, which allows you to clearly and accurately take any turns.

The dynamics of the Skoda Octavia RS is especially impressive - it takes only 7.2 seconds after the start to exchange the first hundred, and maximum speed reaches 240 km/h. The engine produces 200 "horses", which is ideal for those who like to get the thrill of driving.

Today, Russian dealers offer customers four configurations of the Skoda Octavia A5. The most affordable option is a car with a 1400 cc atmospheric engine with 80 hp. and a manual transmission in the Active package.

They ask for 574,000 rubles for such a car, and its basic equipment includes ABS, audio training, lumbar support for the front seats, a driver's airbag, a full-size spare wheel and an immobilizer.

The most expensive version is Laurin & Klement for 1,094,000 with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine and automatic, or with a 2.0-liter diesel engine and a DSG robot, which costs 1,134,000 rubles.

The previous generation Skoda Octavia was quite popular. The current one cannot boast of such success yet, although you cannot call it a newcomer to the market. Let's try to understand the reasons.

Octavia write, Golf in mind. But Skoda is significantly different from its direct cousin. It differs in a paradoxical way - being larger in size, it is one step lower in the Volkswagen table of ranks. Although no, already half a step. This disposition is based on developing countries, where buyers prefer "bigger" cars, but can afford "simpler". Hence the mimicry for a sedan - 37 cm of superiority over the "fifth" Golf (the base of both cars is the same) went to a stretched tail - supposedly the third volume. But Octavia remained a hatchback.

Remained on her own. Unfortunately, too much. This is what a deep restyling of the previous generation could look like. And successful. Instead of straight, unsophisticated lines, Octavia received soft, harmonious features. The front optics became more aggressive, the rear rounded. From almost all angles, the car looks attractive. Thank God, no one else comes up with nonsense like: “Octavia is a converted Passat” (although such a comparison, of course, flattered the car). Nevertheless, the current Skoda, in my opinion, looks more solid than the Golf.

Inside, too, the feeling that somewhere all this has already been observed does not leave. It's really clear where. Almost all interior elements are borrowed from the German bestseller. Head unit, climate control unit, power window keys... Naturally, along with them, Octavia got the reference ergonomics.

In general, in the Octavia salon you will not be able to find weaknesses and even more punctures. But you shouldn't look for highlights either. There is nothing here that could be remembered. The only contender for the title of a family trait is the instrument panel, the German origin of which is skillfully hidden behind light green scales with small “ray” digitization. Antique. The devices take some getting used to, but are generally pretty. And without the poisonous blue backlight.

Still, Skoda will have to be put a little lower than Golf: materials are cheaper, some solutions are simpler. But this can only be seen upon closer inspection. So the lag is implicit.

The motor here is the simplest: 1.6 liters, 102 hp, eight valves, distributed injection. Yes, there are more interesting proposals in the range of the Czech company, for example, a promising combination of a 2-liter turbodiesel with a DSG box. And in the gasoline lineup, VW is now focusing on FSI technology. But it is worth remembering the Russian market realities, and it becomes obvious that the 1.6-liter version is the closest to the buyer. Yes, and he is not the most dull (an option, not a buyer), in principle.

Octavia, of course, is a little heavy for a modest motor. Even the Golf doesn't ride very hot with it, but the Skoda weighs 80 kg more, and the 16-inch winter wheels don't add to its agility. But you can live. And if all the time to unscrew the poor motor almost to the limiter, then it will turn out to depict something similar to a dynamic ride. True, only when there is no one nearby - in a high-speed stream, overtaking and maneuvering will be difficult. No, it's better not to try to jump above your head, especially since it does not look quite adequate from the outside. "Our" Skoda is designed exclusively for quiet movement. In the lower rev range, the engine demonstrates smooth traction, without whims and surprises.

A certain amount of pleasure behind the wheel of an Octavia can come from someone else. From a well-tuned chassis, from the correct handling, from the precise operation of the transmission. This is where copying Volkswagen is fully justified. The car drives nice. And you sit comfortably - the chairs are hard, with a tight fit and the required range of adjustments. And you hold the steering wheel as it should - the rim of the desired thickness and profile, there are two adjustments. And the gears shift perfectly - clearly, with short strokes. With a 1.6-liter engine, only 5- step box, and there is also a 6-speed. The optimal settings of the electric power steering, coupled with a rigid suspension, allow you to accurately feel the car in every turn and move confidently at high speed.

As an option, Skoda is equipped with a stabilization system (ESP). It can be turned off, but given how often the electronics wake up even on a dry road (the car was shod in studded tires), this does not seem the most reasonable. Moreover, ESP works correctly. The brakes are reliable, but the drive requires great care when dispensing effort - a little overdone, and the car will freeze in its tracks, pecking with its nose. This is especially annoying in the "traffic light" mode of motion.

The Octavia driver will obviously be pleased. And the passengers? Too. In terms of seating comfort, the rear sofa is not inferior to the front seats. And legroom compared to the previous Octavia has become even more. Plus, there is a central armrest, behind which is a hatch in the trunk, a dream of skiers. Thanks to the folding backrest, the cargo compartment can increase to an incredible 1350 liters. But even in the usual version, its volume is impressive - 560 liters. Small things also have a lot to put in - A4 documents can easily fit into the glove compartment, there are roomy pockets in the doors (which also look good), a case in the armrest, and a eyeglass case in the ceiling.

So, the Octavia drives well, looks better than before, inside is almost a Golf. What is preventing Octavia from becoming a sales champion? As cliche as it sounds, the price. Slightly inferior to Golf in a number of technical indicators, Skoda does not lag behind in terms of price. In similar configurations with a 1.6-liter engine, cars cost almost the same (at least $ 20,000). In such a situation, there is a reason to prefer a richer and more status Golf.

But even this is not the main thing. Main competitor new Octavia- Octavia is old. Sales of the previous generation model continue, as does its production. The price is significantly lower (by $3,000 on average). Sellers are diligently trying to breed two Octavia - misleading buyers, they rank new model to a higher class. But for the buyer, this is not so important, and he prefers to pay less.

Changing the engine oil of the Skoda Octavia A5 on a 1.4 engine is as simple as it is. Changing the oil and filter with your own hands is quite affordable, which is what many drivers do.

When to change, how much and what kind of oil to fill in Octavia A5 1.4

The maintenance schedule of the manual indicates the frequency of replacement every 15,000 km. At the same time, along with the oil, it changes and oil filter. In severe operating conditions, it is reasonable to reduce this interval to 10,000 km.

According to the manual, for the 1.4 engine need 3.6 liters of new engine oil . For engines 1.6 and 2.0, this figure will be 4.5 and 4.6 liters, respectively. Diesel 1.9 will require 3.8 liters of oil.

canister original oil VAG SPECIAL PLUS 5W40 for 5 liters has the number G052167M4. It can be replaced with an analogue or any other manufacturer suitable for the wallet.

Original oil filter - 030115561AN, analogues: Filtron OP 641, Bosch 451 103 318, Mann W 712/52, Mahle OC 295.

Original oil pan plug - N90813202.

How to change the oil and oil filter Octavia A5 1.4

First you need to warm up the oil in the engine so that it drains better. Then install the front of the car on a flyover, pit, lift, ramp or jack.

The oil will drain faster if you unscrew the cap filler neck and pull out the dipstick.

Hot oil can burn hands that are not protected by gloves.

When the oil stops dripping, screw the drain bolt back on. You should not be too zealous when tightening, a quarter of a turn is enough after the cork sits tightly.

Replacing the oil filter with an Octavia A5 1.4 is quite easy - access from under the hood, it is unscrewed with a 30 head. At the same time, a little oil can also run. Before installing a new filter, be sure to lubricate the sealing gum fresh oil. And twist should be no tighter than three-quarters of a turn after the elastic touches the seat.

After making sure that the drain plug and oil filter are tightened, you can pour fresh oil into the engine. First, fill in 3 liters of oil, then tighten the filler cap and start the engine. Letting him work for 5 minutes and cool down for 10 minutes so that the oil runs into the sump, check the oil level on the dipstick. Then add enough oil to bring the level up to the upper mark.

previous generation A4 is a fairly reliable Skoda Octavia, as far as A5 decent car, we will now examine in more detail. The A5 generation was produced from 2004 to 2013.

Body

The Volkswagen concern knows how to deal with corrosion, therefore there are no problems with Skoda in terms of rust, the body lasts a long time and does not rust if there was no accident and handicraft body repair. In 2008, there was a restyling, after which they changed the headlights, taillights, hood, instrument panel, others began to install motors. And the body became less angular.

Since the metal is galvanized, the paint holds well, but if chips appear, then they need to be tinted anyway, corrosion appears on them and grows if it is not tinted. On cars before restyling, door seals are not very successful. Also, the door moldings begin to peel off and the headlights become cloudy. Chrome loses its luster after 6 years of operation, but there is little in the car trimmed with it. Even here, the contacts in the backlight of the number are not particularly reliably protected from moisture. These contacts cost 10 euros. It also happens that the switch under the brake pedal fails, so the brake light stops working.

Also, after 5-6 years, various control units may begin to fail. Therefore, before buying, you need to check whether everything is in order with the wiring between the driver's door and the body, the harness may break at the bend. In 2011, they only began to make more reliable wiring. There are other minor problems on cars produced before restyling, for example, the audio system unit may fail. Also, the door locks are not particularly secure. The wiper trapezoid already needs to be replaced after 100,000 km, it costs 200 euros. There is also a janitor on the trunk lid in some trim levels, it can also fail.

Salon

In the cabin, everything is done with high quality, squeaks appear after 100,000 km. run. But the age of the car will give out the steering wheel, which becomes highly polished after 3-5 years, also the gear knob will look.

The climate control fan motor starts to squeal, as on VAZs after 80,000 km. A new such motor will cost 100 euros. You can, of course, lubricate it, but this will not help for a long time, so you can also change the bearings, then the motor will not be able to squeal for a long time. At the plant, this design was finalized only in 2012.

In the Skoda Octavia A5, equipped with automatic climate control Climatronic, after 3-5 years, the damper actuators and the control unit may fail. There are times when 5 summer car small cracks appear in the air conditioner evaporator, and the compressor here is also not very reliable, and its replacement will cost 300 euros. And in winter time years, when you get into the car, you have to shake off your legs so that the snow does not fall on the gas pedal, because there is a plastic hinge, and it can not withstand and fail from excess ice, you will have to change the entire assembly for 100 euros.

Motors

Skoda Octavia A5 with a diesel engine is a rarity in the secondary market, but these engines are generally good. This is a 2 liter diesel engine with common rail system. True, there were minor troubles with fuel wires, that in 2011 there was a revocable company.

There are also cases when the valve cover seal leaks, and if you drive through traffic jams, the USR valve becomes dirty, the replacement of which will cost 280 euros. And when the car has a mileage of more than 130,000 km, then you have to change the intake manifold and water pump. If you drive normally, then as a rule it’s enough just once every 120,000 km. change nozzle seals, a set of which costs 15 euros. This all applies to diesel vehicles manufactured after 2010.

As for diesel cars produced before 2010, these are 1.9 and 2.0 engines, they are more risky, because they have more expensive pump injectors in the power system, each such injector costs 700 euros. In a 2-liter engine, cylinder heads were often replaced, because cracks appeared in them, and the oil pump drive failed after 100,000 km. Also, in diesel engines, a 2-mass flywheel serves 2 times less than on gasoline engines, that is, approximately 80,000 km., And it costs 800 euros. So, it’s better not to even think about the diesel equipment of the Skoda Octavia A5.

Charged Skoda Octavia RS

For those who want a faster car, you can take a closer look at the Octavia RS, which come in several variations - station wagon or hatchback. The RS comes with a lower sports suspension, which already starts to demand attention after about 60,000 km. It also has low profile tyres. Under the hood in these charged Octavias is a 2-liter turbocharged BWA engine, with timing belt, but there is also a chain in the motor.

After restyling, they began to install another motor - CCZA, it no longer has a belt, only a chain. Power remained the same - 200 hp. With. But in these engines there is a small oil consumption - up to 1 liter per 1000 km. But in terms of reliability, the motors in the RS are about the same as in regular Octavias. After 2006, a diesel engine appeared with more torque, but less power. True, this engine has a not very reliable injection system and a turbine. But for a while, this motor, of course, will work.

Most reliable motor, which may be in the Skoda Octavia A5, is an 8-valve gasoline engine with a volume of 1.6 liters, it has a conventional distributed injection. This motor can be found on a third of the cars of this model.

Its power, of course, is not very large, this motor from the EA827 family, which first appeared in the 80s, was installed on the 2nd generation Volkswagen Golf and Audi 80. The motor remained as simple and reliable, it can easily last - 350 000 km. run. But it is necessary to change the timing belt and water pump every 100,000, which costs 140 euros, but an analogue can be found for 30. You also need to change the ignition coil periodically along with high-voltage wires.

Also, even on trifles, there may be some troubles associated with age, for example, crankshaft oil seals begin to leak. Valve stem seals can also tan over time, and piston rings can coke. If this happened, it will immediately be seen from the gray smoke from exhaust pipe. Usually, it can be after 140,000 km.

And if the valve lifters are already worn out, then characteristic sounds will appear, they cost 13 euros each. If floating idle speed suddenly appears, it means that it's time to revise the injectors and check the regulator idle move. By the way, nozzles cost 90 euros. You also need to clean the throttle body. And the main difficulty is the worn-out plastic intake manifold. A new collector costs 130 euros.

All-wheel drive version

For those who think they want to ride off-road in an all-wheel drive Skoda Octavia, it makes sense to take a closer look at Octavia Scout, which has a system that connects rear axle. An all-wheel drive station wagon costs 150,000 more than a regular station wagon. Ground clearance in Scout by 40 mm. more than a regular Skoda. The gearbox in the all-wheel drive Skoda Octavia is a 6-speed manual, lasts a long time and rarely ever fails, if once every 60,000 km. change the oil and filter in the Haldex coupling. To prevent the clutch from overheating, sensors are used in the system, the clutch life is about 200,000 km. run.

There is also a 16-valve atmospheric engine with a volume of 1.4 liters, but it has very little power - 80 hp. With. And the car weighs quite a lot, so this motor is a little lacking even while driving around the city. There is also a 2.0 engine without a turbine; it was installed on Octavia before restyling in 2008. There are not very many cars with this engine either, but the car is quite fast. But in cold weather, cars with this engine do not start very well.

You also need to look at gasoline Octavia so that there is a clean filter mesh in fuel pump which is in the tank. This is not easy to do and usually no one does it, but if it is noticed that the fuel supply has deteriorated, then this means that the mesh is clogged. It is not necessary to change the entire pump for 150 euros, because many craftsmen now know how to change the mesh separately for only 60 euros. It also needs to be done every 50,000 km. clean the injectors and change the timing belt. And the water pump also needs to be changed periodically.

But these are all trifles, real problems come if a turbocharged engine is installed in the car. On cars manufactured in 2009 and 2010, engines of the EA111 series were installed, the volume of which is 1.4 liters, such configurations are quite rare. But even rarer are cars with a 1.2-liter engine, in which there is a chain instead of a timing belt. The creators thought that the chain would last the entire life of the motor, but as a rule, because of it, the life of the motor decreased, it already begins to stretch after 60,000 km. Therefore, for prevention, it is necessary to change the timing drive as soon as the sounds from the rattling chain appear.

In addition, in cars with a 1.2-liter engine, turbochargers were changed under warranty, which cost 500 euros each. In the 1.4-liter engine, these turbochargers are stronger, but it happens that the bypass valve or control valve fails. But the pistons are weaker, because their design is not very successful, the rings are also rather weak. Also, a liquid intercooler can be a hassle, it can leak and coolant will enter the intake manifold. Also, after some time, the heat exchanger becomes dirty, so the cooling will deteriorate.

Only in 2011 the pistons were finalized, the timing was also improved, after which it became very unlikely that the chain would jump. So that the chain does not stretch before 120,000 km. - do not leave the car on a hill without a handbrake. It is also not necessary to start a car from a pusher, this applies not only to Skoda, but to all Volkswagen cars in which motors with a chain in the timing mechanism. The most popular engine used in the Skoda Octavia A5 is a 1.8-liter engine. This motor also has its own characteristics during operation.

For example, the oil separator gets dirty, the membrane in the crankcase ventilation valve dies, and much more, all this was fixed in 2012. This year also improved the elements piston group, because there was an unsuccessful design, that after a while the engine oil consumed a lot. Also, the timing drive has been improved, if earlier it could withstand up to 100,000 km, but now it has become 2 times more enduring.
As in any car, you should not save on oil, and it is advisable to change it more often - 2 times a year, regardless of the mileage, and if the car drives a lot, then more often.

Injectors, as on any turbocharged engine, are sensitive to fuel quality. They cost at least 120 euros apiece. Also the high pressure pump costs 250 euros. All this will fly at once, if you do not fill it quality fuel. The car also does not like short winter trips, this is especially true for cars in which the system direct injection. If the engine has not warmed up normally, then it will troit slightly, and the spark plugs will not last long and will disable the ignition coils. A set of spark plugs costs 15 euros, and ignition coils 40 euros.

Gearboxes

There are different boxes in Octavia. There are the least problems with mechanical ones, but Octavia before restyling has its own nuances. For example, for engines with a volume of 1.2 and 1.4 liters, there is a 5-speed 0AF gearbox. On cars produced before restyling, this box could break after 40,000 km. After restyling, it was finalized, and it began to hold on to at least 120,000 km. There is also a 6-speed manual 02S, it is put on cars with more powerful engines. It also has its own nuances, but in general, if you have a head on your shoulders, then it will last for some time, that is, you do not often need to make sharp slips and everything will be fine.

On the sports modifications RS costs 6-speed 02Q, which also does not like to be torn abruptly. This box was also improved after 2008 and it began to hold on longer. The 6-speed automatic Aisin Warner TF-61SN showed itself well in terms of reliability, it was created back in 2003 by the Japanese and Germans by joint efforts. This machine is installed on engines 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0. On more powerful motors, a heat exchanger can fail, after which the bearings and the control unit will begin to fail from overheating. Therefore, if on a run of 80,000 km. the gears will start to shift with shocks, this means that it is time to change the valve body for 1000 euros or it can still be repaired for 400. You also need to remember that in this box you need to change the oil every 60,000 km., although according to the instructions to do this type no need. But if the oil is changed, the box will last much longer.

There are also 6-speed DQ250 robotic boxes, they also need to change the oil every 60,000 km. After 2010, they began to install a mechatronic hydraulic control unit on charged and diesel configurations with this box, which is no worse than in a Japanese box.

In addition to the above boxes, there is also a 7-speed robotic box DQ200, which is just very unreliable. This box first appeared in 2008, it had dry LuK clutches, then this box was damp and needed to be improved. It had problems with the mechatronics, and after a while the clutches began to wear out quite quickly, which was already 50,000 km. required replacement. Well, there were other minor issues as well.

In dealerships, they began to sound the alarm and re-flash the software in the control unit, and besides this, the clutches were changed under warranty, and sometimes the entire box assembly. The developers tried to save the situation with this box, they sent new unit firmware 2 times a year, but the most significant upgrade was only in 2012. If the box is not specifically killed, then it can last no less than 130,000 km. without replacing the clutch, the box itself can last at least 250,000 km.

Suspension

But things are better with the suspension, but at first after 50,000 km. the rear silent blocks of levers on the front suspension with MacPherson struts wore out. New these silent blocks cost 30 euros each. In cars produced after restyling, they have already begun to hold on for 120,000 km. But by this run, it is already time to change the steering tips for 40 euros, the bearings on the front and rear hubs. They must be changed together with the hub for 130 euros. First, the rear shock absorbers need to be replaced, and after a while, the front ones, the rear ones for 70 euros, and the front ones for 100. We are talking about the original, if we take analogues, it will turn out 20 for the rear and 45 for the front.

If groaning appears during steering, this means that it is time to change the support bearings on the front struts, but if the stabilizer bushings are worn out, then you will have to change the entire assembly with the stabilizer at once, it will cost 140 euros. In general, not a car, but continuous costs. There are configurations with a raised suspension, this is a package for bad roads, so there were cases that in these cars the rear springs burst, which cost 85 euros.

There were also cases that after 90,000 km. on pre-styling cars, silent blocks were stratified at the rear wishbones. But after restyling rear suspension began to serve for quite a long time, you can not look under the car up to 160,000 km. Moreover, silent blocks are inexpensive - 10 euros each.

As a result, the Skoda Octavia A5 is a very problematic car when it comes to pre-styling cars. That's why the best option for the purchase will be a car after restyling with a 1.6 engine. The prices are really not particularly adequate, the price of the car does not lose very quickly, which plays into the hands of sellers. Previous generation Skoda Octavia Tour was produced until 2010 along with the new Skoda Octavia A5. Moreover, the first generation Octavia Tour is more reliable and costs 80,000 rubles less. And the Volkswagen Passat B6 costs more than the Octavia A5 by about 50,000 rubles.

Feelings behind the wheel of the Octavia A5

The car drives well, I always want to press the gas to the floor, especially if you don’t know that the clutch is in DSG box does not like hard acceleration. The turbocharged Octavia with a 1.4-liter engine starts off quickly, excellent handling, soft suspension, the car does not flinch on bumps, a soft and comfortable car.

But when driving in traffic jams, the DSG box is not very comfortable, because the shifts are quite hard, there are jerks. automatic box more comfortable. But during acceleration, if you ease the pressure on the gas pedal a little, then you can drive at a speed of 50 km / h in seventh gear. The car even has sports mode, which perfectly spins the engine to maximum speed.
