About the company Pirelli (Pirelli). Tires "Pirelli": country of origin, description and reviews Tires pirelli whose production

Pirelli tires are popular with car owners, and this is not surprising. They are of high quality, because the company that produces them has a hundred-year history. In 1872, in Italy, Giovanni Battista Pirelli established the production and sale of elastic rubber. The company was named "G.B. Pirelli & C". At the end of the nineteenth century, his factory began producing "Ercole" tires for cars and "Milano" tires for bicycles. Manufacturing patent car tires the Pirelli company received already in 1901. Today it has factories in Eastern Europe, China, USA, South America and Western Europe. In terms of revenue, it ranks fifth in the world among tire manufacturers. Country of origin marking

Tires that are produced by any manufacturer have a marking that indicates in which country the rubber was made. So, for Pirelli tires, the following marking is adopted:

  • released in the USA - CH;
  • released in Italy - XE, JR, XD, XA, 8U, XC, XB;
  • released in Argentina - XM;
  • issued in Germany - CE;
  • released in Greece - XN;
  • released in England - XP and XN;
  • released in Brazil - XL and XK;
  • released in South Korea - YO;
  • released in China - 4T;
  • issued in Venezuela - 1B;
  • released in Turkey - XJ;
  • released in Spain - XF.

The marking is placed on the side of the tire. The country where the manufacturer is located is listed after the DOT. In this case, all symbols are written in a ring. In addition to the country of manufacture, the manufacturer, model, width, and profile height will be indicated on the tire.

Other designations on the tire

Profile height and width are marked 192/60, for example. In this case, the width must be measured in millimeters, and the height as a percentage. In our case, the number 60 is the ratio of the height of the tire to its width. The higher this indicator, the higher the tire will be. Next to these numbers will be the letter R and, for example, the number 17. This is the tire dimension (rim diameter). The designation 90T will indicate the speed index.

After these designations, the inscription "reinforced" is usually indicated - reinforced tire. If there is no such inscription, then the tire is not reinforced with additional frames and auxiliary elements. You also need to pay attention to the design of the tire. If the tire is marked with the letter R, then it is radial, if D is diagonal. The latter are not very popular today.

Closer to the rim is information about the permissible maximum load. It can be an inscription of this type: "Max pressure 300 kBs" or "Max load 520 kg". For passenger cars, this index is indicated with a small margin. When choosing tires, this indicator should not be decisive and decisive. On both sides, the tire has the inscriptions "Inside" and "Outside" - inside and outside. But the marking "M & S" means that the rubber can be used in slush and rain. "Tubeless" means that the tire is tubeless. If this inscription is missing, then there is a camera inside. Mandatory on tires and the ECE conformity mark, which may look like this: 11022142. If there is a snowflake "*", then the tire can be used when high temperatures in winter.

Pirelli tires are a product of the highest quality. Since 2011, this company has been supplying tires for the GP2 championship and Formula 1. Tires of this brand are used in transport systems, agriculture, and construction. The largest percentage of consumers of these tires, of course, are car owners. These tires are distinguished by reliability, good performance and technical characteristics.

What feeling will you experience when you find the made in Russia label on a foreign brand product that you just purchased? Moreover, you specifically made a purchase abroad in order to get a truly “branded” thing. Do you feel confused or, conversely, proud of the country? A similar anecdotal story about buying tires in Europe by an unlucky Russian car owner somehow happened to be heard by a Lenta.ru correspondent. Tires as a result cost exorbitant prices, which gives the incident an instructive connotation.

The logic of those who choose a foreign-made product is understandable: after all, how long has the inertia of thinking forced, for example, to treat domestically assembled foreign cars as “second-fresh sturgeon”. Perhaps, only the current crisis has put everything in its place: cars of foreign brands that have not found sales in the country are now exported. This is perhaps the best proof that the quality of localized cars is not inferior to the original. But what about tires? The Lenta.ru correspondent visited the Pirelli factories in Voronezh, Milan and Turin to compare the production process.

Not robots burn pots

In Italy, a lot is connected with the eminent company, after all, it has existed since 1872. In honor of its founder, Giovanni Battista Pirelli, a street is named in Milan. And the first skyscraper that was allowed to rise above the famous Milan Cathedral is the Pirelli Center. At the company's headquarters, they carefully treat own history- A large archive has been created that functions as a museum. And the old concrete cooling tower (that is, the water cooling tower) is skillfully inscribed in a modern ensemble of office architecture made of steel and glass.

A similar combination of technologies of the past and present centuries is in production. Serial tires are made by robots, but prototypes are made the old fashioned way, by hand. It is reminiscent of an art school: workers with chisels, like sculptors, leisurely gouge the tread grooves on a bare tire, clamped in an old, battered vise. This is cheaper than immediately making a mold for vulcanizing a tire with an experimental pattern, which, after testing, may have to be finalized.

So high technologies are technologies, and no one has yet canceled the golden hands of experienced craftsmen. This is especially felt in the Pirelli research center, where, in particular, tires for Formula 1 cars are being developed. It is necessary to design not only the tires themselves, but sometimes the auxiliary equipment. For example, in the past, something like carbon paper was used to measure the contact patch of the wheels with the road - this technology was borrowed by Pirelli from the manufacturers of running shoes. However, with the growth of requirements, the employees of the center had to independently develop special measuring tools.

mechanical waltz

Of course, pilot production has little in common with in-line production, where robots rule the roost. The birth of a tire begins with the creation of a multi-component rubber compound. The main ingredient is rubber, both natural and synthetic. The tire consists of about 80 percent of it. Sulfur and carbon black, as well as various chemical additives, are added to rubber. The exact composition of the mixture is the main know-how of the manufacturer.

To reduce costs, Pirelli seeks to use localized components to the maximum - for example, Russian rubber is used in Voronezh. And like the creators of fine wines, who by mixing grape varieties achieve the same taste, despite the difference in yields, Italians are forced to strictly ensure that the mixture at all 22 factories is identical. For this, a chemical analysis is carried out, and the apparatus is connected to a central server in Milan: if the sample differs from the reference, the conveyor stops.

The finished tire in section resembles an onion: a sealed layer, a textile cord and a metal cord, a shielding layer and, finally, a tread. Each ply requires its own rubber mix. Finished components are sent to assembly machines that resemble giant looms. Winding the cord, by the way, is also one of the secrets of production: the angle at which the textile tape, consisting of rubberized threads, is fed, regulates the contact patch of the future wheel.

After assembly, the tire takes on an almost finished look, but it feels like a piece of chewing gum - sticky and easily deformed. To give it strength, vulcanization is required. The tire is clamped with metal plates with a relief imprint of the tread and placed in an autoclave, where, under the influence of pressure and temperature, the rubber becomes elastic.

A few minutes pass - and with a hiss, in a cloud of steam, the finished wheel rolls out into the light to immediately get back on the conveyor - to the control area. As in Italy, in Russia the tire is checked in three stages: visual, instrumental control and X-ray to detect hidden defects. A high-quality tire is delivered to the finished product warehouse, the defective one is immediately cut and then disposed of. If the percentage of rejects in the batch exceeds the calculated value, the conveyor is stopped until the reasons are clarified.

social question

Production in Turin and Voronezh is quite identical, and the same can be said about the equipment - except that secondary processes, such as tire sorting, are more automated in Italy, in accordance with the large output. The company's social policy towards employees is similar.

At the Russian plant, the abundance of informational safety posters seems to be evidence of the low culture of local production. However, in Milan and Turin there are no less such posters - Pirelli's safety requirements are very strict. A journalist from the group inadvertently demonstrated this by stepping over the restrictive line in front of the machine. A photocell has been triggered and the line is frozen.

Perhaps, if there is anything that distinguishes Russian and Italian production, it is the working conditions: the Voronezh Tire Plant was created back in the 1950s, it went through the fever of the 1990s, lack of money and bankruptcy. And although about 100 million euros were spent on modernization, its interior decoration is strikingly different from the spacious, bright and well-ventilated workshops of the enterprise in Turin. Special mention deserves a magnificent dining room, where meals for Italian employees are partially subsidized by the company. Excellent working conditions, however, the merit of not only Pirelli, but also the workers themselves - Italy is famous for its strong trade union movement. So Voronezh tire manufacturers have something to learn from foreign colleagues, in addition to knowledge of materiel.

Back in the first half of the 20th century, Pirelli tires were widely known in Europe; they have not lost their positions even after almost a century of history. Now the wheels of this brand are among the most bought in the world and adequately withstand the competition. The history of the company began in 1872 with the purchase of a small elastic rubber factory by the Italian engineer Giovanni Battista Pirelli and his associates. In 1894, the G.B. Pirelli & C., which produces a wide range of rubber products, began manufacturing its first bicycle tires. And since 1901, the production of wheels for cars was also organized.

Today Pirelli is one of the most successful tire manufacturers. The company has an annual income of more than 6 billion euros, and 38,000 employees work at its 19 enterprises around the world. The largest share of investment in development the latest technologies in the tire industry, also thanks to the presence of state defense orders, the highest share in original equipment, participation in rally races and exclusive supplies of the Formula 1 race, sponsorship of the Ice Hockey World Championship in 2016 - this is what distinguishes Pirelli from competitors. Innovations in sports developments are successfully applied in tire lines for daily use.

Pirelli logo

Despite the fact that all development is carried out in Italy, in a region with a mild climate and excellent roads, Pirelli tires are able to cope with the most difficult weather conditions in Russia. While creating car wheels Special attention paid not only to the composition and methods of vulcanization of rubber, but also to the tread pattern, which is calculated mathematically, provides maximum grip, reduces the effect of aquaplaning and increases the controllability of the car.

Pirelli's Formula Ice tires are made from silicone rubber, which has increased frost and heat resistance and retains its performance both in heat and on icy roads. It is due to its composition that Pirelli rubber has high wear resistance, which reduces the braking distance and ensures high operational safety.

The Italian company has created a complete collection of winter products to give drivers the confidence to instantly adapt to low temperatures. The composition of the rubber compound guarantees optimal grip and better traction on both dry and wet road surfaces, reducing the risk of possible aquaplaning.

Pirelli winter tires are the perfect option for complete safety in all weather conditions.

During the summer, Pirelli offers its customers high specifications and security. Pirelli's specially developed rubber provides the best performance in summer, especially when the temperature rises to the maximum.

What country are tires made in?

Pirelli is an Italian manufacturer of automobile, motorcycle and bicycle tires. The company produces a wide range of tires for different kind transport: passenger cars, trucks, minibuses, agricultural machinery, commercial vehicles. Pirelli engineers are constantly developing new technologies for the manufacture of modern tires.

The company's factories produce raw materials that are necessary for the production of tires. Many organizations buy it in large quantities at a wholesale price.

Pirelli has always considered Russia as a strategically important market. It's no secret that many Russian regions play a leading role in the consumption of winter tires in the premium segment, in which Pirelli has long been a strong player. But only with the supply and sales of tires Russian market is not limited, the production sphere is actively developing. So, in 2011, the state corporation Rostec and Pirelli created a joint venture that acquired the Kirov Tire Plant from the Sibur holding, as well as a tire plant in Voronezh.

From the moment of the purchase of both enterprises, the introduction of new technologies immediately began, the organization of work processes in the field of logistics, quality control, and production was revised, which made it possible to ensure that the manufactured products fully comply with high standards. The company's total investment in Russia exceeds $400 million.

Currently, the production capacity of the Kirov Tire Plant has reached 6 million tires, and the Voronezh - 2 million tires per year, while the capacity of the latter allows, if necessary, to significantly increase production volumes.

Pirelli factory in Kirov

Thus, in Russia, Pirelli tires are manufactured at factories in Kirov and Voronezh, however, Italy can also be indicated as the country of origin of a certain batch of tires (for example, Formula Ice), but most often it is still Russia.

Which is better to choose: Pirelli Winter Ice Zero or

From right choice Tires depend on the safety and the period of impeccable operation of the car itself.

Pirelli Winter Ice Zero

This product is designed for medium-sized vehicles that are operated in the city. The tire has aluminum spikes, which are equipped with a hexagonal core.

Pirelli Winter Ice Zero

This design helps to increase the grip of the Pirelli wheel with the ice surface. With a reinforced base, the mobility of the machine is minimized, and there is also a decrease in speed when driving on an icy road. Wheels are on sale in the market in 20 different versions (175-225 millimeters) with sizes R13-R17 inches.

Goodyear Ultragrip Ice Arctic

This is a premium studded winter tire with a directional tread pattern for passenger cars. There is also an SUV version for crossovers and SUVs.

Country of origin: Germany, Luxembourg, Poland.

Balanced studded tire with directional tread pattern. Despite the relatively small number of studs (about 110), the tire brakes very well on ice and snow, and also behaves quite confidently on wet and dry pavement, so it is a universal option for any winter roads.

When creating a studded novelty, specialists used modern MultiControl Ice technology - driving on ice has become even easier and safer, traction properties increased.

The use of Goodyear's silicon polymer improves wet traction and makes riding in rain and slush more comfortable and safer.

When testing Goodyear winter tires on the track, the following results were obtained: when driving at a speed of 40 km / s on an icy surface, the braking distance is approximately 0.8 m shorter than that of the Pirelli Winter Ice Zero. Also when testing goodyear tires Ultra Grip Ice Arctic it was found that the clutch during acceleration works better than rubber from an Italian company. Longitudinal traction also helps when starting on wet roads.

During testing, it was found that tires from the manufacturer Goodyear do not get stuck in the snow, but, on the contrary, cling to the surface and easily get out of the snow porridge. This advantage of winter tires will especially appeal to residents of Siberia and other snowy regions. Car enthusiasts living in country houses or in holiday villages will like the power of the tires and their stable behavior even in bad weather conditions and on poorly cleared roads.

Goodyear Ultragrip Ice Arctic

Overall, the Goodyear Ultragrip Ice Arctic is slightly better than the Pirelli Winter Ice Zero. Italian tires are more balanced, but less comfortable, so for those who prefer a measured, accurate ride, it is better to choose "Arctic" tires.

Pirelli produces many interesting rubber models for both compact cars and crossovers and SUVs. Despite the fact that the brand is Italian, it has popular Winter tires for the Nordic countries. The Pirelli brand is premium, so tires are more expensive than those produced in Asia, but the Italian brand guarantees the quality and reliability of its products.

The Italian company has been successfully operating in the rubber market for almost 150 years. During this period manufacturer Pirelli has become a cult brand for motorists.

Pirelli

ATTENTION! Found a completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption! Don't believe? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also did not believe until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

It occupies the fifth place in the world in terms of revenue in the tire trade allows us to call the company international.

In order to develop and consolidate in new markets, Pirelli management has long expanded the geography of production beyond the Apennine Peninsula. Tires under this brand roll off the assembly line not only in all parts of Europe, but also in South and North America, Africa and Asia.

The number of factories in Brazil caught up with their number in their native Italy (5 productions each). At each plant, manufacturing technology is strictly observed. Commissions monitor compliance with the high quality of the company. Pirelli tires, which are produced by a factory in Turkey and in the UK, are of the same excellent quality.

The total staff of the holding is approaching 40,000 workers of various professions. Due to the high level of production automation, it is possible to manage with a minimum number of specialists, but the requirements for them are the most stringent.

The Pirelli holding is an association of various companies that specialize in various areas of high-level rubber production. The association includes:

  • Design companies that develop the external design of the final product;
  • Research centers for the development and creation of production technologies and materials for tires;
  • Direct production factories where products are manufactured;
  • Logistics companies that ensure the supply of materials, equipment and manufactured products to consumers;
  • Shopping centers, where customers are offered tires that are in demand on the market.

The Pirelli Research Laboratories are constantly working to improve technical parameters existing models. The release of fundamentally new options does not stop, seeking to satisfy the growing need of the market.

The structure of the company operates 6 centers located in 6 different countries. The staff of these departments is about 2000 highly qualified specialists. Each development, after a series of tests and adjustments, is embodied in the production process. This approach provides cost savings while maintaining excellent results.

To describe the geographical scope of the Pirelli group of companies, an estimate of the volume of industrial operations, of which 85% is located outside of Italy, and 50% is created outside of Europe, is perfect. Points of sale of Pirelli products are scattered in more than 120 countries of the world.

Pirelli produces tires for the entire range of vehicles:

  • Agricultural machinery (tractors, harvesters, machinery for cultivating land);
  • buses,
  • small and large trucks,
  • Cars of various modifications,
  • motorcycles,
  • Sports cars.

The holding's activities are aimed at the overall development of tire production technology.

Pirelli in Russia

An excellent example of the emergence of Pirelli production in a new country can be studied by the example of the Italian expansion into Russia. Tires produced at the enterprises owned by the Italian management, for a long time occupied the bottom lines of all reports and ratings. So far, no decision has been made to build our own production in the immediate vicinity of the AvtoVAZ plant.

Pirelli works closely with automakers. There is a constant search for contracts for the supply of rubber for models produced from the assembly line. Pirelli tire developers strive to create unique options for specific vehicle modifications. This allows you to adapt the tires as much as possible to the needs of the car manufacturer and provide the buyer with best conditions for driving.

The construction of the plant in Russia did not take place, because with the help of Rostekhnologii, it was possible to acquire two operating tire factories at once - in Kirov and Voronezh.

According to the final calculations, the holding acquired 2 powerful enterprises, quickly completed them to required level and launched the production of tires, while saving impressive funds. And by 2015, the share of Pirelli tires has increased several times.

The company is adjusting its product line in accordance with market demand and the structure of the country's vehicle fleet. Establishment of high-capacity production facilities located in the region makes it possible to monitor the market dynamics and promptly respond to its changes.

Logistic centers and large trading departments are attached to the production facilities. Thus, the core of the development of regional tire production is formed. Subsequent expansion occurs only if there are reliable analytical calculations and if the existing center cannot cope with the growing demand.

In the near future, it is not planned to create new production facilities in Russia. The two existing factories are doing an excellent job with the plans of the holding and are actively spreading on the goods market.
