The old Renault Logan MSV was better. Firstly, regarding the body: everything that is presented in the article as advantages is actually a disadvantage. This waist line rising towards the back is completely useless. For the sake of some stupid fashion, the windows are becoming narrow and visibility is worse. And it's darker in the cabin. Instead of swinging rear doors there is a firecracker. From my point of view, this is also a minus. The old body was attractive, in part, because of its hinged rear doors. The previous body was almost square when viewed from the rear. This one has a more pronounced slope on the side panels and a higher floor in the rear. This means the trunk volume has become smaller. In general, there was a car that attracted attention precisely with its utilitarian forms and qualities of a cargo-passenger van. It has become an ordinary, banal budget station wagon, like Priora or Kalina in the corresponding bodies... Well, as for the interior, I absolutely don’t like the tidy. I can't stand the big speedometer in the center, flanked by smaller semi-circular additional instruments. I am for equality (and equal size) of the speedometer and tachometer. Moreover, it is the second more important device for me. This tidy was on the pre-restyling Priora. After restyling, it was abandoned in favor of a more familiar one, with two large dials.

Today we test drive the new Logan MCV station wagon with diesel engine 1.5 DCI. There are no MSVs for sale in Russia; we went for a test drive to Logan’s homeland, Romania. In Europe, a station wagon is in great demand with a diesel engine, there is a lot of space and low consumption, which is what Europeans need. An inexpensive large budget car for a family for a relatively small amount of money.

Let's start with design

The first Logan MCV was something of a compromise. The car was made on the stretched B0 platform of the Logan sedan and offered its customers the opportunity to buy a seven-seater car, but with a traditional station wagon design. The idea turned out to be successful: those who need a lot of cargo space can choose a five-seater option, and those who have a large family can choose a seven-seater. Offering more than just inferior seats in the last row. On which only children, as well as adults with a height of up to 180 cm, can sit comfortably, including for the knee space. Now you should forget about the station wagon previous generation, the new Logan 2 MSV - has become an ordinary station wagon based on Logan 2.


At the rear, it still retains the idea of ​​the first generation, although, as a link, the brake lights are vertically styled and are a set of black plastics that extend onto the roofs. However, any other resemblance to the old MCV has been discarded and the new one takes a more modern approach to the estate.

Interior, what's new?

The new MCV has been designed to “carry the maximum load on a vehicle,” as the manufacturer states, which is especially true and to the point. Of course, it’s not all rosy and roses have thorns. In order for the price of the Logan MCV to remain the same, cheap hard plastic had to be used. One of the advantages is now an adjustable steering column.

Engine, gearbox, fuel consumption

During the test, the Logan MCV was equipped with one of the most famous engines in Renault, a 1.5 DCI diesel with a power of 90 hp. Such engines are installed on Duster in Russia. The engine has been slightly modified, with the same power and increased torque to achieve smooth acceleration.

The engine itself has become quieter, which also contributes to better sound insulation in the car and is more balanced. Few vibrations reach the pedal or shift lever. These overall improvements have added to the comfort of the car.


One of the best in its segment from Renault, the 1.5 DCI diesel engine has become even more economical. Official data from the manufacturer shows that the average fuel consumption for the Logan MCV is 4.4 l/100 km, of course, if there is no driver behind the wheel. During our test drive of the Logan MSV station wagon with three adults on board and at high speeds, consumption was 5 l/100 km - and this was without the help of the Eco Mode function. If you want even lower mileage, you can always turn on a feature that will adjust certain engine settings and climate control settings - but you should be aware that this will have a significant impact on the car's speed.

The 1.5 diesel engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, which is also found on the Duster. Reliable and a great match for this engine, and fifth gear is very long and well suited for long distance country trips.

Loading, safety

Our short review of the Logan MCV: what we like / what we don’t like

Pros:

  • The price of Renault Logan MCV in the new body is very competitive in this car segment.
  • The space is one of the best, comfortably accommodates 5 people.
  • The diesel engine is modest, well balanced and provides good overall performance with low consumption.
  • Also, the buyer now has a lot more options to choose from.
  • The design of the car looks more modern.

Of the minuses:

  • The platform on which the Logan MCV station wagon is built is already outdated. She is reliable, unpretentious, but drum brakes this is already the last century. But for this segment, quality and reliability are most important, above all.

Let’s admit right away: we had to go to Ukraine (or to Ukraine, which doesn’t change the essence) to get the test car, because in Russia there are only model range There is no Renault at all. It is believed that “sheds” are not respected here. And the Ukrainians, who are close in mentality, still love it.

The pedigree of this car is quite confusing, we will talk about it a little lower, at the very end of the test. In the meantime, let’s come closer to our experimental subject...

Exterior

It’s not that Logan suddenly became handsome, by no means, but you can’t call him faceless. And what’s more, the expressive new front end bears pronounced noble features and denotes a claim to a certain charm. The massive, impressive image of the side and rear emphasizes the overt practicality of the car: yes, I am a station wagon and am ready to accommodate a lot.

The ground clearance, which is significant in modern times (164 mm), and the front and rear overhangs of the body fit into the silhouette very organically and will certainly come in handy. After all, a car with such a body and such price segment she herself is asking to be a “provincial”, “summer resident” and “developer”. This “geometry” will also come in handy when storming curbs in urban environments.

Under the completely new-looking body is also hidden the new platform of the Renault-Nissan B0 alliance. It is not fundamentally different from the “first” Logan: front wheel drive with a transverse engine, independent McPherson suspension at the front and an elastic beam semi-independent rear suspension.

Interior and trunk

But before we tried this “filling” on the go, we were once again impressed by what we saw inside, in the “habitable compartment”. The dashboard and door trim, which cannot be compared with its predecessor, are the same as those of the new Logan sedan, and therefore are already familiar. But in the rear, we found no sign of a third row of seats, which was the real highlight of the first generation Logan MCV! “Don’t look for it,” the dealer told us. “Seven-seater new MCV does not come in any of the configurations!"

But as a place for cargo, the trunk is beyond praise: it is roomy (573 l), the loading height is low (620 mm), and the door lid rises high, and is also equipped with an internal handle.

The back of the rear sofa folds in parts (1/3 - 2/3), and although it forms a step on the floor that prevents luggage from moving, it allows you to stow cargo up to 1,800 mm long. In the underground we see pleasant little things that are important for our conditions, such as a full-size spare tire and a small compartment for “duty” items - snow brushes, rags, containers with washer fluid, etc. The upper parcel shelf is rolled up, tilted and, if necessary, completely removed. The trunk upholstery is not the neatest in places, but the type of materials suggests that they are quite durable and can be cleaned.

Ergonomics

To get a good seat behind the wheel, I had to tinker a little, because the steering wheel is adjustable only by the angle of inclination. While dealing with the seat microlift, we learned along the way that the MCV station wagon, unlike the Logan sedan, does not have the third, richest Dynamique package.

Our car is in the top-end Expression version for MCV, with a trip computer, heated mirrors, electric front windows (the driver's - so-called pulse, with the ability to open and close the window in one motion), parking sensors, a driver's seat lift, an outboard thermometer and climate control .

Of the equipment that is available on any version for an additional fee, I especially liked the LG multimedia system with navigation, USB and AUX inputs, Bluetooth and an adequately responsive 7.0-inch touch screen. It is interesting that such a “head” with an installed local card is quite inexpensive (in Ukraine the additional payment for it is about $270).

On the move

Our southern neighbor has fewer prejudices regarding fuel, so the test copy is diesel. The combination of a practical body with a practical 1.5 dCi engine (84 hp, 200 Nm) has, perhaps, only one drawback - discomfort in the form of vibrations idling and increased noise.

When the diesel engine is revved up intensively, it “screams” especially loudly, but it should not be “twisted” for another reason that it is pointless: the effective thrust range of the engine lies at the bottom and is quite narrow (1,500 – 2,500 rpm). Actually, this is typical for many modern budget-class diesel engines.

However, in general, the acceleration is very tolerable (13.2 s to 100 km/h), feeling comparable to that given by the 1.6-liter gasoline engine MPI (80 hp, 128 Nm). Finally, criticism of the diesel engine fades after reading the trip computer readings. At the end of a day of vigorous driving through the car-crowded streets of Kyiv, with two photo sessions with the engine running, the flow meter returned a figure of 6.0 l/100 km. Not bad at all.

We drove a car with a modest 5-speed manual transmission, with its slightly loose lever and light shifts. Alas, this is the only option for all engines - automatic transmission not provided in principle. However, the pairs of gears in the manual transmission are well coordinated, and the diesel engine is not very strict when it comes to selecting speed, so the driver does not need to make particularly frequent shifts.

Chassis The new Logan MCV retains one of the most important advantages of the first generation model - energy intensity. The suspension allows you to safely move on broken roads without wasting time on braking, changing gears, etc. The feeling that the car simply does not notice holes and potholes would instill in the driver a feeling of permissiveness, if not for the noise that accompanies overcoming large potholes. However, we are not talking about suspension breakdowns “all the way”, even if you drive along gullies without slowing down.

Of course, the price to pay for this is rolliness during sharp maneuvering and swaying on asphalt waves at high speeds. But this is unlikely to be a serious disadvantage for those who are looking for the most affordable station wagon on the market for family trips to the country or to the supermarket.

At the same time, the power steering is accurate, with good feedback, the steering wheel itself is comfortable. The car's large mass and length compared to a sedan do not have a noticeable effect on handling. The same can be said about the brakes. The car's visibility is fine, including backwards, so despite the long rear, there were no difficulties with parking in reverse.

How to buy in Russia?

We are forced to upset you: no way. Renault has not announced any plans to bring the “universal” Logan to our market. Most likely, there will be no deliveries in the foreseeable future, so as not to take away the audience from Lada Largus.

If you wish, you can buy it in Ukraine, but if you look at the cost of customs clearance, the desire immediately disappears: you will have to pay 48% of the cost or at least 3.5 euros for each cubic centimeter of engine volume. Recycling fee and the cost of registration need not be indicated here - and it is clear that the feasibility of the undertaking is zero.

As for the Belarusian market, with which we are connected Customs union, then Renault Logan MCV is not represented there either. At least for now.

What's the result?

Let's try to understand what we are missing Russian buyers in the absence of Renault Logan MCV. Firstly, there are 13 additional liters of luggage space - the Largus has 560 liters behind the rear seats. Secondly, an economical diesel engine, which is available only on Duster, but traction characteristics Clearly more suitable for passenger cars. Thirdly, a set of options for the second generation Logan: a normal head unit with a screen and navigation instead of a wretched radio, parking sensors, window closers and climate control. Fourthly, a fresher appearance, which also should not be written off. Of course, you can live without all this. But it is still impossible to get rid of the slight pangs of envy towards Ukrainian fellow motorists.

Often the station wagon version is not much different in size from its sedan counterpart. However, Japanese-French-Romanian specialists, creating Renault (in some markets DACIA) Logan MCV, went their own way and increased the wheelbase to almost three meters.

Perhaps it was this, coupled with the high roof and rear hinged doors, that gave them reason to announce the creation of a new class of cars, the MCV Multi Convivial Vehicle - “a car for all occasions.” The Dacia-Renault Logan MCV was presented to the general public back in 2006 at the Paris auto show. However, despite the fact that the sedan of this brand has been assembled in Russia for a long time, no one is in a hurry to officially supply the Renault Logan station wagon. There are only vague rumors that AvtoVAZ has bought a license to produce this car and will begin producing it under the R90 symbol in 2011. But the neighbors are already trying out the modernized version, which runs on gas equipment.

The front part of the station wagon is completely identical to the sedan, except that the roof line extends further upward. However, for budget model, the appearance of Logan with its straight lines and simple forms is quite successful, unlike the smooth forms of the Chinese auto industry of past years, it does not try to wishful thinking, but immediately warns the future owner about utilitarianism. Particularly “depressing” is the sight of the Base version with unpainted bumpers and 14 steel wheels. In the Ambiance and Laureate versions, the bumpers and wheels at least create the feeling of “a car designed not only for work.” But if the front half is exactly Logan sedan, then from the middle - this station wagon is very stretched (just like a dachshund dog).

And this despite the fact that, due to the short overhangs, the car is not so long, only four and a half meters, but at the same time it looks like a smaller bus. There is not a bit of sportiness or style, but almost the entire length is effectively used to create salon space.

The interior volume of the Renault Logan MCV station wagon is its main advantage; it is larger than that of many commercial vehicles. The car is presented in five- and seven-seater versions, but even with three rows of full-fledged seats behind there is still space for bags (about 200 liters), but if you fold two passenger sofas, then 2350 liters of volume is absolutely amazing. In addition, there are a lot of additional devices for storing small items, a shelf on the ceiling, drawers in the cabin and nets in the rear doors. Another advantage when transporting cargo is the hinged rear door system, whereby the uneven-sized doors can be locked in three positions. The picture of the car’s full versatility is broken only by the inability to remove the seats of the second and third rows; they can only be folded.

The ability to transport cargo using the Renault Logan MCV does not exclude convenience for the driver and passengers. The abundance of cheap plastic and simple fabric upholstery in the interior cannot be called an elegant solution, and the shape dashboard, dials and controls (buttons and switches) immediately make it clear that the car is budget-friendly. But, nevertheless, the fit of the Romanian-French seats is comfortable (however, adjustments are available only in the expensive version), and there is enough space in the cabin even on the third row of seats. The comfort in the gallery is spoiled only by the seat belt sticking out from the ceiling in the middle and the inconvenience of passage to the third row. The interior design may not shine with stylish solutions, but it honestly warns of class vehicle(simple, but quite reliable and suitable for performing its tasks). The only upsetting thing is that any pleasant and familiar options are not included in the basic and even average configurations, we are talking about a radio, air conditioning and electric windows. And the sound insulation of the interior was clearly not improved; you can hear both road noise and the sound of the engine.

The design of the Dacia-Renault Logan station wagon is simple but reliable, the suspension is quite energy-intensive and copes with both road surface imperfections and speed bumps. However, the long wheelbase combined with a ground clearance of 150 mm creates difficulties when overcoming difficult terrain, as well as maneuvering in parking lots and narrow streets. And the high profile gives the car excessive windage.

If we talk about technical characteristics, the Renault-Dacia Logan MCV station wagon is equipped with two types of engines: a 1.6-liter petrol in-line four with a power of 90 hp. and a 1.5-liter diesel engine with 70 hp. Both engines are paired with a five-speed transmission manual transmission transmission The engines have good torque, but you shouldn’t demand special acceleration dynamics from them. Recently, the gasoline unit began to be retrofitted with Italian gas equipment directly at the factory. In this case, the cylinder does not take up space in the cabin, but is hidden under the bottom instead of a spare wheel. This solution has already found recognition among buyers in neighboring countries, the car is still a budget car and saving on fuel can only benefit it, and the factory installation promises this design reliability, confirmed by warranty. In addition, the 42-liter gas cylinder together with the 50-liter gasoline tank provide an excellent range.

Unfortunately, the Renault/Dacia Logan station wagon is not officially sold in Russia... and taking into account transportation, customs clearance and other expenses, the price of the Renault/Dacia Logan MCV is secondary market spin around half a million rubles (and this is for a used car that has already run on the roads of Europe).

At the end of February, the Romanian company Dacia presented the Logan MCV Stepway all-terrain station wagon, the public premiere of which then took place at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March.

Compared to the regular version of the model, the Dacia Logan Stepway 2017 has a practical body kit with unpainted plastic inserts. Metallic inserts appeared in the front bumper of the station wagon, and plastic linings appeared on the wheel arches. Ground clearance modifications increased to 174 mm (+ 50).

From power units for Dacia Logan Stepway 2017-2018 petrol and diesel engines with a power of 90 hp are available. Both engines work in conjunction with a non-alternative five-speed manual transmission and are front-wheel drive. Average fuel consumption in the combined cycle for the first is stated at 5.1 l/100 km, for the second - 3.9 l.

On the European market, the new product is available only in top-end configuration Laureate. The list of its equipment includes multimedia with navigation, a rear view camera with parking sensors, air conditioning, partial leather trim, seats with 3D effect trim, and a hill start assist system. There is no information about the start date of sales and prices yet.
