Marketing technique: experience of owning a Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Hyundai Genesis Coupe - affordable sports coupe Reviews from Hyundai Genesis Coupe owners

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe sports coupe is compared by some to the legendary Mustang, and some, on the contrary, consider it a pathetic parody of sports car. The Koreans failed to please everyone, but they succeeded in creating a car with its own recognizable character. Whatever one may say, the Hyundai Genesis coupe leaves no one indifferent.

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe sports coupe first appeared in public in 2008 - as part of the auto show in New York, after which sales began on the domestic Korean market, and a year later the new product reached the USA and Europe. In Russia, sales of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe began on September 1, 2009 - and the car immediately attracted increased attention from domestic connoisseurs of sports coupes, especially since the offered price was very “tasty”.

One of the trump cards of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe is its appearance, because first of all, it is the design of the Korean coupe that evokes conflicting feelings, exciting the imagination of some and irritating others. The design image of the Genesis Coupe is elegant, dynamic and offers almost ideal proportions of a sports car: a long hood, a short front overhang and, most importantly, a massive rear with an enlarged rear track, further emphasized by wide rear tires.

A slight restyling in 2013 added more aggression to the car by enlarging the radiator grille and straightening the contours of the front bumper, and stylish stamps on the side planes of the body give the effect of increased aerodynamics, as if this is not a car, but a new generation jet fighter. The look is completed by stylish modern optics with a complex individual configuration, which was especially successful for the Koreans at the rear of the Genesis Coupe.

Let's say a few words about overall characteristics. The length of the body is 4630 mm, while the wheelbase is allocated 2820 mm. The width of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe fits within the framework of 1865 mm, and the height is limited to 1385 mm. The front and rear track widths are 1605 and 1625 mm, respectively. The minimum curb weight is 1530 kg. The weight distribution of this coupe is 55:45 towards the front axle.

If the appearance of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe can be rated as excellent, then the Koreans did a much worse job with the attractive-at-first-glance interior. The four-seater interior is far from ideally organized and numerous miscalculations in the little things together can seriously spoil the driving experience: the terrible location of the button block on the driver's door, the annoying blue backlight of the display on the center console, a poorly organized climate control control unit, a non-adjustable headrest resting on the back of the head and so on and so forth.

The rear passengers of the Genesis Coupe will not be delighted either - if the amount of free space in the legs can be called sufficient, then you will still have to rest your head on the ceiling.

All this is compensated only by volume luggage compartment, which holds noticeably more cargo than many competitors (like the Toyota GT86). The standard trunk capacity of the Genesis Coupe is 284 liters.

Technical specifications. Today on the domestic market, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe is presented with only one engine. This is a 4-cylinder petrol unit of the Theta series, equipped with twin-scroll turbocharging, variable valve timing system and direct injection fuel. Its displacement is 2.0 liters (1998 cm³), and maximum power reaches 250 hp, developed at 6000 rpm. The peak torque of the turbo engine occurs at 373 Nm and is maintained in the range of 3000 – 4500 rpm, which allows you to reach a maximum speed of 235 km/h.

The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is also quite good in terms of acceleration dynamics: from 0 to 100 km/h the coupe accelerates in 7.6 seconds. The new 8-band also contributes to this automatic transmission. By the way, the Genesis Coupe is one of the few sports cars whose engine “roar” does not have a special sports tune, which sets the coupe apart from its peers. Although, on the other hand, even if the obvious artificiality of the engine sound is sometimes still not enough for complete happiness.

Now, briefly about fuel consumption: in city conditions, the coupe “eats” 15.2 liters of AI-95 gasoline, on the highway it will require about 7.4 liters, and in mixed driving mode average consumption is about 10.3 liters.

Available in the range of Hyundai Genesis Coupe and more powerful version, but in present moment it is not officially supplied to Russia. We are talking about the Hyundai Genesis Coupe with a 3.8-liter Lambda engine under the hood. The power of this updated 6-cylinder monster is 347 hp and peak torque is 400 Nm.

The sporty rear-wheel drive Hyundai Genesis Coupe is based on a platform shortened by 115 mm from the Genesis sedan. At the same time, the developers replaced the double-wishbone suspension at the front with a more simple diagram with MacPherson struts, and at the rear they used a five-link independent design with a separate subframe, spaced springs and shock absorbers, as well as a reinforced stabilizer lateral stability(diameter 19 mm).

The suspension is aimed at a dynamic driving style and is ideal for drifting enthusiasts, since the rear-wheel drive literally “explodes” the rear with every touch of the accelerator pedal (this can play a cruel joke with inexperienced drivers).

Since 2013, the manufacturer has been using new reinforced ventilated discs on all wheels. brake mechanisms, supplemented ABS systems and EBD. There is also ESP system, but its work is not adjusted perfectly, which is why it reacts with some delay, which also benefits those who like to drift.

Options and prices. In Russia sporty Hyundai The 2013 Genesis Coupe is offered in only one configuration – “Performance” at a price of ~ 1.6 million rubles.
The manufacturer included in the list of its equipment: 18-inch alloy wheels, front xenon optics, LED tail lights, foglights, front and side airbags, heated and electrically adjustable driver's seat, climate control, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, an audio system with 7 speakers and USB support, leather interior, alarm and chrome trim on the door sills.

Presentation updated Hyundai Genesis coupe took place on Tverskaya Street in Moscow at the end of 2012. Its first generation appeared on Russian market in October 2009, after it was first unveiled in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show.

The car is built on Hyundai's first rear-wheel drive platform, borrowed from the Genesis sedan and shortened by 115 mm.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe Design

The design of the restyled version of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe has been redesigned in accordance with the company's new corporate style. Hyundai Genesis Coupe received an updated front end with a hexagonal grille, LED headlights, as well as a bumper with built-in daytime running lights running lights And fog lights. Changes also affected the taillights and alloy wheels.

The automaker positions the Hyundai Genesis Coupe as an imposing sports car, the main competitors of which are the Audi TT, Chevrolet Camaro and Infiniti G-coupe.

Engine and transmission Hyundai Genesis Coupe

IN Russia Hyundai The Genesis Coupe was presented in a single Performance version, which included a 2.0-liter engine on which a turbine was installed increased productivity with an electronically controlled bypass valve, as well as an enlarged intercooler. As a result, power Hyundai engine The Genesis Coupe (previously 210 hp) has grown significantly. But for Russia its power was limited to 250 hp, so that the owners of the model did not have to pay an increased transport tax. At the same time, torque increased by 68 Nm, which made it possible to reduce the acceleration time of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe to 100 km/h from automatic transmission up to 7.2 sec.

The update affected Hyundai transmission Genesis Coupe. The first generation of the model was equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission. Now it has been replaced by an eight-speed unit with linear mode switching.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe equipment

The list of options offered on the Hyundai Genesis Coupe has also been expanded to include previously unavailable equipment such as an engine oil temperature indicator, a turbocharging and accelerometer indicator, as well as an optitronic Supervision instrument panel, a seat belt feeder bracket (you no longer need to reach for it), and electric seat adjustments. driver, including lumbar support, parking sensors and xenon headlights. Anti-fogging and air ionization systems were also offered.

In June 2014, the Korean automaker was forced to stop sales of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe in Russia. The Hyundai representative office made this decision after dealers were able to sell only six cars in May. A sharp decline in buyer interest in the Hyundai Genesis Coupe was caused by a significant increase in its cost due to the introduction Russian government increased customs duties on imported cars.

Phil Collins has nothing to do with it

Now I know a 100% way to make the most melancholic driver go faster. Everything is very simple - you just need to taxi up to him from behind in a Genesis Coupe. Having cast a nervous glance in the mirror, the poor fellow, who incomprehensibly found himself in the left lane, will clutch the steering wheel until his white knuckles, closing his eyes from his own courage, push the gas to the floor and at least for a few moments delay the moment of inevitable overtaking.

At first I was surprised by this behavior of Moscow drivers, then I lamented a little, and then waved my hand. “Genesis Coupe” gives rise to a craving for sports in those around us. What's wrong with that? Frankly, it fascinated me, like no other Hyundai has to date. And in just a few days I was almost convinced that I needed to buy a coupe...

It should be noted that the sports two-door appeared in the production program of the Korean company 14 years ago. Since then, a coupe with a very original name “Coupe” (also known as “Tiburon” - shark translated from Spanish, also known as “Tuscani”, which is unclear what it means, but is in tune with English pronunciation the word “Tuscan”) survived three generations and left a generally pleasant impression of itself. Agree, the title “Best Selling Coupe in Italy” means something! However front wheel drive and not very powerful engines - 172 hp. With. at most, they limited the model’s popularity among sports car enthusiasts.

It’s not that Koreans are disappointed in the “Tuscan shark” concept - far from it. The production of the “Coupe” may have been discontinued, but the appearance of an heir is a matter of the coming months, and maybe even weeks. However, Hyundai decided that one coupe is not bad, but two are definitely better. Agree. Especially if the second one is such a handsome guy like “Genesis”.

In the pictures, it somewhat resembles its well-known front-wheel drive relative. The line of the front fenders, the lean rear and the general outline of the body. But as soon as you get closer to Genesis, you immediately realize how much bigger it is. It's much bigger!

You can even guess this from the name of the car. After all, “Genesis” is not a tribute to the rock band of Phil Collins - remember, probably, the worldwide hit “I Cant Dance” (“I can’t dance”) - but a transparent hint of kinship with the executive sedan “Genesis”, by the way, “ The best car 2009 in the USA.” The coupe chassis is, of course, shortened, but the scope is felt. The length of the two-door reached 4 m 60 cm. Wow, a coupe - more than a BMW “three ruble”!

My size!

Personally, I really like this large size. One look at the car is enough to understand that the coupe was not nicknamed “Tiburon”. Here she is - a real shark, who is just looking for something to bite off. Well, the bright red metallic “Tsukuba”, named after the Japanese race track, definitely adds to the ferocity of the car.

Opening the long driver's door - how I love this XL format, and even flavored by the absence of frames! - I dive into the salon. I rate the ease of fit as a solid A - on a scale of ten. On the other hand, this is a matter of habit - after a day I didn’t even remember the inconvenience of entering/exiting. The inside of the Genesis Coupe is almost as good as the outside. The sporty leather seat buckets with fabric inserts to match the body are magnificent, and the plump donut of the steering wheel is something you just want to try.

The breadth of scope is felt here too - you can’t reach the right door trim from the driver’s seat. This, however, does not mean that the chairs are welcome to people of any size. Personally, I, a person exhausted by fitness three times a week, liked the buckets unconditionally. I believe that even adjusting the lumbar support will not save citizens who are swollen at the waist.

By the way, the large size of the Genesis, oddly enough, did not affect the spaciousness of the sofa, or rather, the sofa. At first glance, the “gallery” seemed, firstly, very beautiful - the seats, like the front buckets, are covered in wonderful leather with contrasting fabric inserts, and secondly, it was even quite spacious.

“Will a child’s chair fit...” the wife said appraisingly, examining the sofa. Armchair - maybe, but I myself - definitely not. Climbing back, I immediately felt like a frog in a matchbox. I can't move my arm or my head.

But a cramped sofa for a compartment is like snow in February or a parade on Red Square, that is, a completely normal phenomenon. In fact, the interior of the Genesis was disappointed by the hard plastic trim and completely unimaginable blue lighting. I’m still ready to come to terms with the first one, but the eerie glow in the dark simply burns out my brain. Moreover, it is absolutely impossible to make out the buttons, illuminated in caustic blue, and most importantly, the riot of color alone really distracts from the road.

He's not a toy, he's alive

But you can’t afford this on a coupe. On a rear-wheel drive, and with a turbo engine - even more so. And it’s not just a matter of “horses”, of which there are as many as 213 under the hood. I have also met more powerful cars, whose driving habits left the impression of some sweetness. “Genesis Coupe” is cut from a completely different cloth. To verify this, just start the engine by pressing the “Start” button. Just don't forget to squeeze it out first. tight pedal clutch, otherwise, as Hmayak Hakobyan correctly said, a miracle will not happen. So, clutch, button, go ahead! A dry cough from the starter, and the Hyundai came to life.

“Genesis” shakes my whole body as if I really breathed life into it. And as a living creature of flesh and blood, he immediately demonstrates character. A slight vibration on the gear lever, a stubborn clutch - I haven’t mentioned how tight it is yet, have I? - and gears that seem to shift clearly, but seem to be slightly reluctant.

We taxi out of the parking lot, the barrier is respectfully opened in front of us, and - here it is, freedom! In any case, its equivalent in the form of a straight line at 250 meters and a 90-degree closed left...

Need I say what happened next? Impressive acceleration, a sharp, perhaps even too sharp jerk of the steering wheel to the left, a desperately flashing ESP light, reacting to an obvious skid rear axle, and an inevitable, like a standard Hollywood happy ending, dose of adrenaline at the exit. This guy can dance! And how...

How nice it is to wake up after hibernation and start driving again, and not carefully and carefully moving through space! For the next half hour, “Genesis” and I had a lot of fun. They ran away from traffic lights, obviously over-speeded in turns, not forgetting to respectfully brake in front of pedestrian zebras, and deliberately ignored the advice of the navigator, just to make the road to the house a little longer. And, of course, again and again we ran into “great walls”, “accents” and other “priors”, whose drivers, not thawed out from hibernation, desperately did not want to give up the well-deserved ski track to the red shark.

BUY A COUPE

For now, the 2-door “Genesis” can be purchased in Russia in the only “Performance” configuration. You can hardly complain about the level of equipment. There is everything here - from six airbags and ESP to climate control, a rich Infiniti music system, leather interior and a sunroof. The version with a 6-speed manual transmission will cost 1,259,900 rubles, the coupe with an automatic transmission will cost another 70 thousand. For comparison: an Audi TT of similar power is at least half a million more expensive.

Shall we take it?

Having become quite enraged, I tried to think soberly. Yes, of course, for a real hardcore sports car, the Genesis is not strong enough. 310 “horses” of the 3.8-liter V-shaped “six” with which this “Hyundai” is sold on the other side of the Atlantic reservoir is a completely different matter. In the States, in general, the 2.0T version is, so to speak, the basic option for further and very deep tuning. But in our realities, 213 “eles” is just enough to attract attention without overdoing it. The golden mean between exoticism and rationalism.

I spent five wonderful days with the Genesis and not once did I feel that the coupe was limiting my capabilities. We raided a hypermarket, and the modest-looking trunk easily swallowed bags of food. Small ground clearance and low-hanging bumpers? No lower than on a 2-liter Mazda 3. High fuel consumption? In fact, the 2.3-liter Mondeo with automatic transmission eats no less. Cramped sofa? So what? A child's seat will fit there, and I won't need anything else in the next three years. Rear-wheel drive and obvious oversteer? Great - that's what a coupe is for, to bring joy, and in winter you can transfer to the metro. But you should have seen the envy in the eyes of young fathers and some thoughtfulness in no less young mothers when “Genesis” and I drove up to the dairy kitchen for our daily portion of kefir and curds. It's worth a lot.

And only the extremely low smoothness of the ride - quite a normal phenomenon on 18-inch wheels with a 45 percent profile - does not allow us to recommend the Genesis Coupe, so to speak, for mass consumption. It's one thing to avoid tram tracks and go around sewer hatches, and it’s quite another to perceive every hole as an anti-tank mine. You won’t notice one and... it’s even scary to think about.

FROM INTERLAGOS TO SILVERSTONE

It is curious that each of the nine color options for the Genesis is associated with auto racing. Red “Tsukuba”, yellow “Interlagos”, green “Lime Rock”, gray “Nordschleife”, silver “Silverstone”, black “Bathurst” are named after the famous race tracks. And the white “Carousel”, blue “Mirabeau” and blue “Mineral Water” are a tribute to the famous sections of the tracks in Nurburg, Monaco, Imola.
