Best all season tyre. All season tires for crossovers. What all season tires to buy

They have become a great solution for those who want to save extra money and not bother with an extra pair of rubber. They were invented in the 50s as a great alternative to winter tires in mild climates. Today, manufacturers are increasingly creating such products, but what are the best all season tires?

What is their feature

This type of rubber has gained great popularity in European countries, because it allows you not to switch to in the cold season. This saves money significantly. The main difference between such products is their design. It's not as "tough" as winter tires. Its features allow you to effectively remove water from under the wheels and resist skidding on a frozen road. Also, these tires make much less noise while driving.

Nevertheless, car owners disagree on whether to buy all-season tires. Many consider them unsuitable for the peculiarities of our climate and cold winters. As you know, these tires are composed of soft rubber which reduces traction. But many manufacturers care about quality and try to create truly versatile tires, so it makes sense to test all-season tires.

What to look out for

This is not only a guarantee of a comfortable trip, but also a guarantee of personal safety. Model Michelin Premier A/S from famous company Michelin Premier A/S appeared in 2015. It provides a tight grip on any type of surface and improves the overall handling of the vehicle. Even in snow-covered plains, these tires show excellent results. When creating the product, experimental materials were used that improve the strength of tires.

The best among analogues

Among the high price category can be identified General Altimax RT43. Quite good grip performance is complemented by an anti-abrasion system, which is so often required in such rubber. Such all-season tires in winter can last longer in the specifics of our climate.

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 is the leader in the grip class. These tires are able to withstand the sticking of wet snow to improve control over the car. In the summer, the lamellas on the tires close up, which improves the maneuverability of the car.

Tires Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS consist of materials perfectly selected by the manufacturer. They are able to withstand cold and hot temperatures even in our open spaces. have high rigidity, which retains its characteristics even with prolonged use. But, despite the features of all-season tires, this model produces a lot of noise.

When it comes to tires that provide long lasting performance, the Michelin Defender is the leader. You don’t have to think about which tires are better, because this product provides a comfortable ride for more than 145 thousand kilometers. This is achieved by IntelliSipe technology, which places additional sipes on the wheel and increases the rigidity of the rubber.

Best Options

For those who prioritize a quiet ride, tires Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season PLUS are the best. The manufacturer has focused much attention on driver safety, so the product has a thoughtful design and engineering solution that reduces sway.

It is worth paying attention to tires Michelin LTX M/S2. They are great for active driving a powerful car. For this, a drainage system is used, which simplifies control on a wet surface. Since such vehicles are quite heavy, steel bands are built into the wheels to withstand a long trip.

Economy segments

Fans of the budget option can choose tires Firestone Destination LE2. It has basic performance figures and is quite suitable for a quiet ride in urban areas. A good plus of such a product is a universal pattern that allows you to use rubber in any conditions. It has special blocks that provide high-quality grip on various surfaces. The increased humidity is eliminated by grooves and slots.

Good tires of the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus model are suitable for a comfortable ride on a crossover. They have high-quality controllability and durable materials that extend the life of the product.

Buying a Bridgestone Dueler HL Alenz Plus kit, you can get excellent fuel economy, as well as a thoughtful appearance, memorable from afar. These tires have special recesses for ride stability and are capable of driving up to 110,000 kilometers.

The Kumho Ecsta 4X completes the rating of all-season tires. Their main advantage is endurance - they do not wear out even on the rough roads of our region. This advantage is complemented by the absence of noise during the trip and the precise control without the slightest drift. Channels located on the sides remove moisture from the machine.

When buying all-season tires, you should be guided by the fact that these are universal products. They are intermediaries between summer and winter tires, so they are equally suitable for all seasons. Of course, their use has disadvantages, such as sensitivity to extreme temperatures, so products have to be updated more often. When choosing all-season tires, you should pay attention to high-quality and more expensive models in order to get the benefits of universal tires.

If you buy all-season tires, you need to focus on the purpose of use. If you need them for short trips in the city, then you can buy more budget options. For active use, it is worth buying expensive rubber so that you do not often change them when they wear out.

Michelin Crossclimate

Summer tires designed with climate in mind Western Europe. When creating these tires, a two-level tread methodology was used. The internal level is solid, it is responsible for the controllability of the machine. The outer layer is soft, made of silica and special elastic compounds. They do not allow the product to harden in moderate frosts.

On snowy and wet tracks, the wheel, “shod” in this rubber, confidently clings to a variety of surfaces due to the V-shaped arrangement of the wave-like components. Their complex structure provides a reliable point of contact even with a non-ideal plane.

  • powerful traction force;
  • satisfactory performance characteristics with wear of more than 50%;
  • excellent traction in mud and snow.

In negative reviews, users mention that the tires are easily punctured and that the sidewall is weak, on which a “hernia” quickly appears.

The average cost is 8,820 rubles.

Disadvantages: they make a lot of noise at speeds over 90 km, whistle in turns, very soft sidewall.

You can buy, on average, for 8,241 rubles.

Virtually silent Japanese tires, excellent braking and cornering on dry roads and on the track after rain. Thanks to the thick and rigid sidewalls, the tires do not “hernia” after traveling on Russian roads. These tires are easy to find on the market, so replacing them if necessary is not a problem.

Minuses: due to the rigidity of the tires, riding them with a stiff suspension can also be uncomfortable.

They cost, on average, 3,062 rubles. a piece.

Is it worth changing summer tires to winter ones and vice versa, or can you still use all-season tires all year round?

This question was answered by the experts of the British magazine Auto Express, who in 2017 conducted their independent test of all-season tires in size 205/55 R16.

Undoubtedly, all-season tires are becoming a mainstream for tire manufacturers as motorists look for the best performance in any adverse driving condition. Over the past 12 months, several new all-season developments have been launched, and the range of a number of existing models has been significantly expanded.

Even Continental, which for years has been an ardent supporter of seasonal tire changes, has released its first all-season product. Unfortunately, the Continental AllSeasonContact tires were not included in the test as they were not yet commercially available at the time of the test, but the absence of this novelty was not an obstacle for the expert group, and eight popular models were selected to find out which of the bottoms is better just perfect for year round driving.

Snow tests were carried out at the Nokian test site in Ivalo (Finland), and cold, wet and dry tests at the Continental Kontidrom near Hannover, Germany. This year, additional disciplines have been added to the testing program in the form of temperature-sensitive tests of wet handling and braking performance not only in cold weather, but also in warmer weather, which, according to experts, should fully reveal the performance of all-seasons.

This year, all-season tires in size 205/55 R16 were tested, which are suitable for installation on many family cars. In addition, summer and winter tires were included in the test (winners of summer and winter tests Auto Express 2017) of the same size to show how their properties compare with all seasons under different weather conditions.

Audi A3 and VW Golf hatchbacks were used as test vehicles.

List of tested models:

  • Falken Euroall Season AS200
  • Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2
  • Hankook Kinergy 4S
  • Kumho Solus HA31
  • Michelin CrossClimate+
  • Nexen N'blue 4Season
  • Nokian Weatherproof
  • Toyo Celsius
  • Dunlop Sport BluResponse (summer)
  • Continental WinterContact TS 860 (winter)

Test results

1st place - Michelin CrossClimate +. Overall score: 100%

When Michelin launched the original CrossClimate in 2015, it was a big deal for the all season tire world. Then the model took third place in its test debut due to a lack of grip in deep water and on snow.

Updated tires Michelin CrossClimate + got a new composition rubber compound to increase durability and maintain performance throughout the entire period of operation. In addition, the "AE" tests revealed an improvement in wet traction. And while the model still doesn't like deep water, it won every other wet and dry test.

On the snow, the CrossClimate+ tires were also not the best, but they still managed to beat the two all-season rivals and are able to handle the British snowfall.

Verdict: All-weather performance with the least driving compromise. According to the UK's largest online tire retailer, Blackcircles.com, CrossClimate+ is the most popular all-weather choice, rated at least 4.8 by customers on a 5-point scale.

2nd place - Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2. Overall score: 99.2%

Last year's 2016 All-Season Test winner in 225/45 R17, the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2, in size 205/55 R16 lost ground and dropped to second place. But this does not detract from the merits of the model. The Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 proved to be the most efficient in the snow tests - the best in braking and traction.

Unlike some of its rivals, it managed to maintain good performance in both deep water and shallow water, and in all of the wet tests it didn't lose sight of the Michelin CrossClimate+ tires.

In dry conditions, the behavior of the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 was reminiscent of the specialized winter tires Continental WinterContact TS 860: the same lack of sharpness and weak steering sensitivity. But even so, the all-season lap time on the handling circuit was only a second faster than that of the winner of the Michelin discipline.

In the fuel economy test, the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-2 tire proved that the contradictory combination of wet grip and low rolling resistance is possible.

Verdict: If you are looking for an all-season tire that is more winter oriented, the best option than this Goodyear product you will not find.

3rd place - Nokian Weatherproof. Overall score: 99.1%

On the podium there was a place for the silver medalist of last year's all-season test. As expected from the products of the Finnish brand, it proved to be very reliable strong in the snow. Both her and goodyear tires there was a clear margin of safety over rivals.

Nokian Weatherproof with excellent traction and a good balance of properties on snow was the star of the handling test. Nothing stopped these tires from shining in deep water, says a Shina.Guide technician, but they didn't perform as well in shallow water tests, and the balance that the Weatherproof tires showed in the snow was not felt in wet conditions.

Braking performance on dry surfaces also leaves much to be desired.

Verdict: Definitely a must-have tire for long trips on snowy roads.

4th place - Nexen N'blue 4Season. Overall score: 98.3%

The testers did not expect to see the products of the South Korean brand Nexen, the N’blue 4Season model, so high in the final ranking, but according to the results of all tests, they had to admit that the all-season took fourth place quite deservedly. In three out of four tests on snow, the tires were in the top three, were good in braking performance and handling on wet pavement regardless of temperature, and at the same time in dry conditions they provide a very decent level of grip.

The problems with the Nexen N'blue 4Season are hydroplaning resistance and relatively high rolling resistance. If not for them, these tires could well count on third place in the overall standings.

Verdict: Good all-round performance makes these tires the best choice in the budget segment.

5th place - Falken Euroall AS200. Overall score: 97.7%

Due to the asymmetric tread design, it was difficult to distinguish between Falken Euroall AS200 and Hankook Kinergy 4S tires. They were in close connection in almost all tests, with the only difference being that the Falken all-season products had an advantage on wet surfaces and snow, while Hankook had an advantage on dry pavement.

While the Falken tires were second on the dry handling track, they lost a full meter to the Hankook tires in terms of braking performance.

Also, the highest achievements of the Euroall AS200 were two third places: in lateral stability on wet roads and in resistance to transverse aquaplaning.

In snowy Finland, the Falken tires had a slight edge in everything but lateral stability. However, as with the Hankook and the other asymmetric Toyo Celsius test model, cornering power was less than most competitors.

In rolling resistance, the Falken Euroall AS200 tires were fourth. Compared to the discipline-winning Nokian Weatherproof tires, they require 3% more fuel.

Verdict: Despite the aging design, the Falken tires still deliver decent performance.

6th place - Hankook Kinergy 4S. Overall score: 97.5%

Asymmetrical all season design Hankook tires Kinergy 4S was closer to summer models, while most all-season rivals had a directional tread pattern. At the same time, unlike the "summer" Michelin tires CrossClimate+ Hankook products feature a large number of sipes and micro-slits that are vital for snow traction.

However, in Nokian's "White Hell", this did not help the Kinergy 4S tires, and they consistently came to the finish line after the summer-oriented CrossClimate +. The lamellas were useful in deep water, but in shallow water, tires with a directional design “steered”.

The asymmetry of the tread pattern played a role in dry conditions, where the Hankook tire came in third in both tests. Rolling resistance is relatively high, which, for a fairly new model, is a concern.

Verdict: "Good on dry surfaces", but this unconventional all-season tire approach is not suitable for other weather conditions.

7th place - Toyo Celsius. Overall score: 96.4%

If asymmetrical tires Kumho had a certain focus on snow, nothing of the sort was seen with the Toyo Celsius tires. In the white tests, they sat in the middle positions and were more in line with the summer-oriented Michelin CrossClimate + tires. But at the same time, their traction on snow was somewhat better than other all-seasons with an asymmetric tread pattern from Hankook and Falken.

Note also that traction on snow is likely due to wet performance. The lack of grip on wet surfaces was felt most strongly on the irrigated circular track.

More briskly toyo tires Celsius behaved on a dry surface. They distinguished themselves by good steering and clutch, which was even more fragile than the premium ones. Nokian tires and Goodyear.

A bonus when buying these all-season tires will be their quietness.

Verdict: These tires are preferred on snow, otherwise they are a step behind the best.

8th place - Kumho Solus HA31. Overall score: 95.9%

Considering the fact that Kumho tires Solus HA31 went on sale in 2014, the gap with the test leaders was quite small. The lag was mainly noticeable on wet surfaces, where in four out of seven disciplines they showed the worst result. However, on snow, the Solus HA31's braking performance is noticeably better than most all-seasons. Also good lateral stability and handling in the snow.

In dry conditions, the Kumho all-season tires brake nearly as fast as the Goodyear products, but the handling hasn't worked out as well as the ability to optimize fuel consumption.

Verdict: The model could use an update to better navigate wet driving conditions.

Winter tires Continental WinterContact TS 860. Overall score - 101.2%. Out of account.

The result of the Continental WinterContact TS 860 suggests that using good winter tires all year round is the best solution if you don't want to change tyres. However, this is not quite true.

Yes, the model took first place in snow tests and also won some wet disciplines by a small margin, but its performance in dry conditions was less impressive. The braking distance of the winter tire was four meters longer than the CrossClimate+ and eight meters longer than the Dunlop summer tire.

Summer tires Dunlop Sport BluResponse. The overall score is 96.7%. Out of account.

The increased number of wet tests and the inclusion of two assessments at "summer" temperatures allowed Dunlop tires SportBluResponse is close to all-season in terms of properties, but leaving them in operation for the winter period would be the wrong decision.

Dunlop traction and braking on snow were much worse than winter and all-season tires, and on the handling track the testers didn't even fixate on the stopwatch - they just needed to somehow fit into the corners and cross the finish line safely.

In dry and wet conditions with air temperatures above seven degrees, the braking gap between Dunlop tires and most all-season tires was significant, which means that in summer conditions only summer tires will allow you to quickly stop the car and avoid an accident.
