Quest #1: “Dear Freedom”

Secret organization "Subway"- one of the factions in Fallout 4. Its members consider their main mission to be the liberation of synths held by the Institute.

The Underground is not as militarized as other factions, but it is secretive. Its prototype is the organization The Underground Railroad, which actually existed in the USA in the 19th century, which was engaged in the secret transportation of slaves from the slave states of the South to the North. You can enter the “Underground” and go through a separate storyline, at the end of which a battle with the Institute awaits you.

But before you join the Underground, you need to find her. Here players often have difficulties - this faction is well-kept.

Where can I find the Underground?

You can find out about its existence in two ways:

Taking on the quest “Road to Freedom.” In this case, we learn about the Underground from rumors at the Diamond City Market, the Bench Bar, or Good Neighbor.

During the mission "Molecular Level", which is part of the main storyline.

These two paths lead to the same goal, so when you complete one of the missions, the second is automatically considered completed. Let's look at them in more detail.

Mission "Road to Freedom"

Let's go to Diamond City.

Here we walk around the city until we hear local residents talking about the Institute. This will be the beginning of the mission, but the goal of the task is not indicated on the map in any way. This is the Old North Church.

How you get to the church doesn't matter, but for the player's convenience there is a "standard" road - the "Freedom Path", a red tourist path running through the streets of Boston. It starts at Boston Common and is marked by a sign that reads: “At the end of the path, follow the Liberty Lantern” and a sign with the code A7. Then just follow this road. From time to time you will see path signs with codes like the first one. Get ready for the fact that the road will not be easy - you will have to fight off the attacks of mutant dogs, ghouls, super mutants and super mutant kamikazes. The latter will try to undermine you by getting closer. Shoot off their hand with the bomb or just run away. At the end of the Freedom Road is the R1 sign and the Old North Church. On its wall you will see the already familiar inscription: “At the end of the path, follow the lantern of freedom.”

Having entered the church, we go down into the catacombs. We fight off the ghouls. A shotgun works well against them.

We find the “Path of Freedom” ring. Here you need to enter the code word RAILROAD (this is what the “Underground” is called in the original version of the game in English). To do this, turn the ring, combining the desired letter and the red arrow, and after each alignment, press the button. If everything is done correctly, the wall moves to the side, opening a passage.

We meet two guys, cutely aiming at us with a pistol and a minigun. Desdemona, the head of the Underground, will be with them. We communicate with her and agree to work for the organization.

Mission "Molecular Level"

We go to the city of Good Neighborhood, there we find the House of Memories.

We ask the doctor to decrypt the hunter's chip. She says that only the Podzemka organization can do this.

Quests "Underground"

We will not dwell on them in too much detail; we will limit ourselves to brief descriptions:

"Agent work"- a test task in which we will need to meet with the Deacon and get the “Carrington Prototype”. As a bonus, we receive 300 experience points and a “Savior” pistol.

"Boston at Night"- We deliver the prototype to Carrington. Then we carry out the task of transporting the escaped synth to a safe place. As a reward we receive 180 caps, 5 hairpins, a sniper carbine and ammunition.

Operation Ticonderoga- you need to go to the Ticonderoga station, owned by the Underground, and find out why the station has stopped communicating. Upon arrival, she is captured by synth hunters, and all the Underground agents at the station are dead. We clear the station of hunters, although this will not be easy. After returning, Desdemona will pay us 500 caps for this mission.

"Underground and Undercover"- we meet with an Underground agent at the Institute named Liam. We learn that the Brotherhood of Steel has revealed the location of the Underground base and can attack at any time. Reward: 400 experience points and a nail gun.

"On the brink of war"- we kill all the Brotherhood of Steel fighters who attacked the Underground. After that, we capture the rotorcraft. We get 500 experience, 500 caps and a short plasma carbine.

"Red Flash of Rockets"- we fly to the Brotherhood of Steel ship, install three bombs on it. We watch the ship explode. For this mission we get 500 experience points and 500 caps.

"Critical Mass"- the final mission of the storyline for the “Underground”. We penetrate the Institute and teleport members of the Underground there. After this, the extermination of all life in the Institute begins. Next we mine the nuclear reactor installed at the Institute. We teleport to the surface and activate the charge. The Institute is finished. For this we get 1500 experience.

Members of the Underground

As the game progresses, you will meet the following characters from the Underground:

Desdemona- leader of the organization.

Dr. Carrington- her deputy. Doctor and merchant.

Deacon- secret agent of the Underground. In his youth, he was a member of a gang that persecuted synths, then he changed his beliefs and joined the Underground. Master of deception and disguise.

Technician Tom- engineer, inventor and gunsmith of the Podzemka. Slightly obsessed with suspicions of total surveillance by the Institute. Seriously claims that the institute mixes micro-robots into food in order to monitor all people. And don’t even think about agreeing to the “injection to destroy microrobots in the blood” that he will offer you! It is unknown what will happen to the microrobots, but after such an injection you will have 10% of your health left.

In the game it is possible to destroy the Underground, but to do this you need to play as the Institute. In this case, all the characters described above die. But this is a completely different storyline that goes beyond the scope of this article.

It doesn’t matter how many killed raiders, super mutants, synths and other creatures affected by radiation the hero has. Eventually you will have to realize that the Commonwealth does not like loners. That at some point you will have to find and join one of the organizations. But some of them don’t want this at all. So, how to find the “Underground” in Fallout 4 and become its full member.

After completing several missions in the company of detective Nick Valentine, the hero will get a chip taken from the head of an institute hunter. To decipher it, you will have to visit the “House of Memories” in Good Neighbor again. Doctor Amari, who once opened the brain of the mercenary Kellogg, this time will advise you to contact the specialists of the Underground organization. The problem is that she doesn't know where to find these people.

Where to find the Underground in Fallout 4?

In order to start the search, you need to take the quest “Molecular Level”. "Underground" is an underground organization and liberation movement. Their interest in the Institute is no less than that of the main character, so they will definitely help. You just need to find them.

To find the Underground in Fallout 4, you need to go to the entrance to Swan Pond, located in Boston Common, where the robot guide stands. There will be a round tile on the ground with writing on it and a red line extending from it. This will be the starting point. We move along the line until the old church appears.

Inside the building you will have to carefully make your way through tunnels crowded with ghouls. At the end, on the wall to the right, there will be a combination lock for which you will need a password (RAILROAD). It is made up of letters marked on the tiles.

Fallout 4 (walkthrough). Finding the Underground is just the beginning

After talking with Desdemona, you and the Deacon will have to proceed to the marker indicated on the map. Goal: infiltrate the building that used to serve as the headquarters of the Underground. True, you will first have to meet with one of the agents. He will say that the former headquarters is well guarded and all approaches to it are mined. The best option is to go through the tunnels. After killing a dozen synths, you will need to pick up Carrington's prototype and return it to the Underground.

Now you can approach Desdemona and show the drawings of Brian Virgil, a super mutant living on the Glowing Lake. At this point, the drawings should already be in the hero’s pocket. Desdemona will offer to talk to Technician Tom. He will explain that to build a teleport it will be necessary to create several objects. This can be done in any workshop.

First, Technician Tom will suggest building a reflector platform. To do this you will need Aluminum (10), Steel (5), Wiring (3). After this, the list will be completed by a repeater antenna, emitter and console. It is worth noting that, unlike the task of the game (Fallout 4) “Find the subway,” this time it will not be an easy walk.

To build it you will need: Gold (3), Textile (6), Copper (3), Steel (3) and a sensor module. If this part is missing, it can be found in any buildings related to radio communications. For example, the easiest way is to visit the active radio station WRVR, located southwest of Diamond City.

The sensor module will be on the table. The problem is that the civilians working there are Commonwealth citizens George Cooper and Anne Hargraves. Even after completing their task, you should not expect a gift in the form of a sensory module. So you have to steal.

Console

It would seem that so much has been done after the hero of the game (Fallout 4) managed to find the Underground, but no one is going to help him. Therefore, he will also have to build the console alone. To do this you will need: Copper (3), Steel (5), Rubber (2) and a biometric scanner. This thing can be found at any medical center, for example, at Milton Hospital.

There will be many kamikaze mutants next to her, and everyone knows how dangerous they are. There will be several robots in the building, and it is possible that some of them may have the necessary thing. That's why we try to destroy them.

Another option: we go up to the second floor and find a room with a hole in the floor. We jump there, leave the room and break open the door on the right. There will be a table with a biometric scanner in it.

Emitter

To build the last object on Tom's Equipment list you will need: Rubber (2), Copper (5), Steel (10), Wiring (3) and a military electrical circuit. It can be found at many military installations, for example, by inspecting Observation Post Bravo.

Near this place it is dangerous, as you can come under fire from two turrets. The facility is also guarded by the Protectron police robot. But for him, the hero is a troublemaker, so he will have to intervene. There is an elevator inside, next to it there is a cabinet, and in it there will be an electrical circuit.

Launching a teleport

This is the final stage in the mission of the game Fallout 4 ("Molecular Level"). Finding the Underground turned out to be quite easy, but becoming its agent required some effort. Now all that remains is to connect all devices to one electrical network. To do this, you will have to build several generators in the workshop and connect a console, emitter and antenna to them.

Before the launch, Desdemona will ask for a favor, because the Underground has its own interests at the expense of the Institute. Then the teleport will take the hero there. At this point, the “Molecular Level” task will end and a new quest will begin - “Underground and Undercover.” But now it will be performed by a real Underground agent.

Having gone through a difficult path full of dangerous adventures, you have finally found the mysterious “Underground”.
Following the plot of "Molecular Level", your pass to the organization will be the Hunter's chip, thanks to which formal security protocols will be abolished and Agent Deacon will convince Desdemona to let you into the Underground headquarters.

If you are following the “Path of Freedom” from a quest from the citizens of “Diamond City” and have not yet received the Hunter’s chip, then with the support of the Deacon, the Survivor will have to pass a test and thus prove that he has no connections with the Institute and will not hesitate to risk his life for the sake of a friend, even if he turns out to be a synth. In turn, the organization will promise its help in return for your devotion.


First you need to talk to the Deacon. Apologizing for the cold reception Desdemona gave him, he will make it clear that precautions are extremely necessary, because if you underestimate the enemy, the game will quickly end.

So, to begin with, Desdemona wants to make a “tourist” out of us, which is what they call those who just help the Underground from time to time. But Deacon senses great potential in the Survivor, a valuable ally, and hopes to have him on his side.

The Deacon has a task that is difficult for one person to complete, but just right for two. In order for a Survivor to be noticed and invited to your team, you must agree and help.

We set up our pip-boy for the task and go to the location “Old Highway near Lexington”.

Approaching a broken overpass, you will find a suspicious character, but as you approach, you will see a disguised Deacon who, without false modesty, admires his disguise.


Here he will tell you that the “Old North Church” began to be used as the main base not so long ago. Before this, the old base was located in the basement of Joe Slocum's Cafe, until Institute stormtroopers tracked them down and turned the headquarters into a shooting range. Those who managed to survive did not have time to get ready, so they needed to pick up something important that they had to abandon during the retreat.

First you will have to meet and get some information from a tourist working for the Underground. Follow the Deacon, he will tell you about certain symbols with which agents leave messages and secret passwords for each other. Look for traces/signs left by the tourist.


Throughout the journey, the Survivor and his new comrade will be attacked by Wild Ghouls, appearing out of nowhere - real horror!

Having reached the meeting point and given the secret password for the “Underground”, you will meet the grumpy tourist Ricky, for him we are just staff rats. The information about the entrance to the cafe will be depressing, it is full of “iron lumberjacks” (as synths of the first and second generations are called), and the entrance is also mined on all sides.


Having discussed the current situation with the Deacon, it is worth making a reasonable decision not to go into a frontal attack, because “not mountains of candy and daisies” are waiting at the entrance. Thank God the cafe has a secret tunnel. Let's move towards him!

Having reached the collector, the Deacon will finally tell you what exactly needs to be found. The main goal is a certain prototype developed by an underground agent, Dr. Carrington.

While following the tunnel, carefully look at the signs left by the agents; they not only warn of danger, but also point to hiding places with various “useful things”.


Ahead of you are waiting for first and second generation synths and turrets. One thing is encouraging, such advanced technologies of the Institute, from the series “how to ruin our lives,” that is, hunters, according to the Deacon, should not exist.

Focus on the goal marker, you need to find an armored door with a terminal, which the Deacon will also help open. Inside the room we find the deceased agent Tommy Whispers, who defended the secrets of the Underground to the last. After searching the corpse, Deacon decides to give Tommy's weapon to you. "Savior" is a powerful and silent weapon, restored by Technician Tom, the only one of its kind.


Take Carrington's prototype and bring it to Desdemona, now you will be a full member of the Underground.

We leave the tunnel using the elevator and get out through the basement of the cafe. Be careful, there are mines at the exit. To avoid falling into the trap and detect them before they are activated, use “VATS”.

Now your task is to meet with the Deacon in the “Old North Church”. Desdemona is delighted that you managed to find and deliver the Carrington prototype. Welcome to the Underground, new agent! Now the Survivor will also have his own code name, because the “Underground” is alive only because it is well encrypted.

In this article we will look at the passage of Fallout 4, provided that the main character has joined the Underground organization. The passage of Fallout 4 is not linear, so situations are possible when some quests for the Underground begin during the passage of the main plot of the game.

Quest #1: “Dear Freedom”

This quest must be completed to get to the Underground headquarters. Without a hint from outside, you will have to rack your brains to find them. Let’s not bore you, in this quest we simply follow the markers found, the final destination of the journey is the Old Northern Church. From this Church you can get into the catacombs, in which the entrance to the Subway headquarters is located, but that’s not all, to open the door you need to enter a password, turning the disk so that the mark points to a certain letter.

Quest #2: “Undercover work”

In fact, this is the first quest that the main character completes as an agent of the Underground. And immediately he is given a difficult task: he needs to penetrate the former Underground base and pick up the necessary items from there. It seems from the description that there is nothing complicated, but as always there is one “but”. This old base has been uncovered by Institute agents, so there may still be an ambush there, so you will need to be careful.

So it turns out, the base will be full of synths, but you will not be alone, your partner in this quest will be the Deacon.

Quest #3: “Boston at Night”

After you get comfortable as an agent of the Underground, you will begin to be given more interesting tasks, one of which is the “Boston at Night” quest. During this quest, your character will take part in transporting an escaped synth to the Ticonderoga station. This quest is not particularly difficult, you will have to run and shoot a lot, but it will not cause you any special difficulties.

Quest #4: “Underground and undercover”

This quest can be started only after the main character has visited the Institute, teleporting there from the teleporter built in his settlement. Desdemona will ask the main character to find the agent they introduced into the Institute with the call sign Patriot. This quest is quite large, during which the main character will have to run around the Institute, around the Cambridge Polymer location and face many difficulties.

Quest #5: “Operation Ticonderoga”

Having completed the next quest, we return to Desdemona, she will tell the main character that one of the Subway's safe houses, the so-called Ticonderoga station, does not go to mandatory communication sessions and is generally completely silent, there are two options, either their transmitter has failed, or The Institute found out about this station and it was captured or destroyed. Your task, as an agent of the Underground, is to get to the Ticonderoga station and figure out what happened.

The task is clear, let's get started. Having reached the station, your character will be convinced that the station has been captured by the Institute, and apparently they have already begun to get tired of the Underground, because they sent several very strong synth hunters to the station. Therefore, before moving to the station, collect more ammunition, first aid kits and chemicals, in case they come in handy. Having dealt with the synths, we return to the Underground headquarters and “delight” Desdemona with the news.

Quest #6: “On the brink of war”

This quest is very interesting and dynamic, it will put the Underground and the Brotherhood of Steel on the brink of war, but what about the brink, it will be a real war, to the credit of the Underground, they did not start this war. We can say that the quest “On the Brink of War” is a mirror reflection of the quest for the Brotherhood of Steel “Strategic Thinking”, in that quest the brotherhood, together with the main character, destroys the entire leadership of the Underground at their headquarters, in the same quest you are on the side of the Underground and repel this attack .

Having completed the previous quest, the main character reported this to Desdemona and after they talked, the Brotherhood of Steel attack on the Underground headquarters begins, our heroes repulse this attack and, seething with anger, decide to carry out a quick counterattack before the enemy recovers from a crushing defeat. To do this, they clear the brotherhood’s stronghold, which is located in the Cambridge police station, and steal a helicopter from its roof.

Dressed as a brotherhood soldier, you fly on a rotorcraft towards Prydwen to destroy him and the Brotherhood of Steel.

Quest #7: “Red Flash of Missiles”

This quest begins after technician Tom was able to hack the protection of the rotorcraft and you took it into the air. Your task is to get to the Brotherhood of Steel airship Prydwen and place three powerful explosive charges on board it. It just seems that everything is so simple, but you will be confronted by well-equipped and armed soldiers of the brotherhood, so you will have to work hard.
