KZ wheels jeeps pickup Mazda VT 50. New comment. “Choose your own path...”

The Mazda BT-50 pickup truck was sold in Russia from 2007 to 2011. Its design brother, the Ford Ranger, lasted a year longer. Both are present on the used car market and in recent years were quite popular

Everyone knows that Ford and Mazda pickups are exactly the same. They were even produced at the same factory in Thailand. The only difference is in the company logos and some design details. And so as not to get confused by the names, we will talk about the life of these pickups on secondary market using the example of one of them – Mazda BT-50.

The premiere of the mid-size pickup truck with the classic Mazda BT-50 layout took place in 2006. The company certainly did not intend to surprise potential buyers with anything. The car turned out to be as simple as its predecessor – the Mazda B2500. True, it has become larger, more powerful, heavier and a little more comfortable. Schematic diagram remained the same: frame, spring dependent rear suspension, independent torsion bar front suspension, separate body and a cramped interior with a high floor. There was only one engine - a 2.5-liter diesel. The transmission is only mechanical, 5-speed, Part-time drive with reduction gear. The materials used were simple but high quality. By the way, no delights have appeared in all the years of production. On the other hand, few people offered four airbags as standard in a pickup truck in those days. However, there weren’t many pickup trucks in Europe at that time. You can count it on the fingers of one hand. Nissan Navara and NP300, Mitsubishi L200, and our couple – Ford Ranger with Mazda BT-50. The most comfortable and largest was, of course, the Navara, the Ranger and BT-50 took the place after it, then the L200 and the utilitarian and very simple NP300 brought up the rear. In general, Ford and Mazda were some kind of real pickup trucks, although they obviously did not reach their American counterparts in most respects. But these were cars with the capabilities of an SUV and a truck at the same time. And besides, it’s cheaper than SUVs of similar dimensions.

TRUCK

Treat a pickup truck like a regular SUV only if you don't intend to carry passengers or if they are very small. Even the front row of seats cannot be called spacious, and the rear one looks like an auxiliary one. In the homeland of the pickup truck, in Southeast Asia, this is easier, but here, in the “Country of Giants,” everyone will always be cramped. In addition, it is not always convenient to put luggage that is typical for traveling with a family in the back, and there is no room for it in the cabin. Well, perhaps only on the floor, under your feet, and between riders on the sofa. No, I haven’t forgotten what a pickup truck is for, but I’m writing this for those who want to save a little money and buy one instead of a crossover or SUV as their main car for the family. You shouldn’t count on the cross-country ability of a pickup truck being similar to that of an SUV of a similar class. Rear axle unloaded, the articulation of the axle with thick short springs is small, and the rear overhang is longer. In addition, like all Asian pickup trucks, the transmission units are located very low and, together with the cross members, protrude from under the frame. They are covered with protective shields, but the bottom configuration is monstrous. About the long base and the absence electronic assistants I won't mention it. It would be nice if the list of options includes a rear differential lock. In a word, from the very beginning, even before purchase, you should treat a pickup truck like a truck, and in the future there will be fewer disappointments.

DO NOT REFUEL EVERYWHERE

Structurally, the Mazda BT-50 is designed with a large margin of safety. A powerful frame, a body that has good corrosion resistance, a strong suspension, durable springs, and durable axle shafts. Mechanical failures are not typical for this pickup. That is, in principle, they are possible, but the loads must be abnormally high. So you can easily go on an expedition into the outback without fear of a burst spring or a knocked out ball. Another thing is the engine and transmission. The weak links here are the diesel fuel system, clutch and gearbox. There are no complaints about the transfer case with a reduction ratio of 2.6:1 and the main pairs. But several unsuccessful refueling will lead to the car starting to light up " check engine", will stop pulling and start. First, low-quality fuel will hit the injectors, which, fortunately, can be washed or repaired. Then the fuel injection pump will start to pass, and this is already a “hit” for a decent amount. The pump is being repaired, but official services prefer to replace it. There were cases when unsuccessful refueling led to the replacement of almost all elements of the fuel system, with a bill of 150 thousand rubles. In general, repairing a pump costs about twenty thousand, and replacing it costs forty thousand rubles. Injectors are washed for a couple of thousand, repaired for ten and replaced for twenty-five thousand rubles. This is approximately. By the way, for fifty to sixty thousand rubles you can find a contract engine from Mazda Bongo, without an attachment, but with a guarantee. For overly active drivers, the turbine may fail. If this happens within the warranty period, it will be replaced free of charge. Otherwise, you need to prepare thirty thousand. Despite the light alloy head and cast iron block, problems with overheating and subsequent replacement are not peculiar to Mazda. The block is short and the cooling system is efficient. The timing belt is driven by a belt, which is changed every 80 thousand km and costs four thousand without work, including two rollers. A small adjusting screw in the fuel line can affect a cold start. It is replaced with a gasket and costs one and a half thousand rubles with work even from a dealer.

TAKE CARE OF THE BOX

In 2008, the BT-50 was modernized. The most important thing that has been done is the gearbox has been strengthened. Early versions had weak first and second gears, their bearings began to play, which led to clutch destruction and transmission failures. The clutch can be replaced with a simpler, non-original one, since from Mazda the disc alone will cost twenty thousand rubles. Unofficials will sell an analogue at three times the price. The shift mechanism, which tends to knock out gears off-road due to rocking and vibration, may require adjustment and replacement. This unpleasant property of a pickup truck is not tied to mileage and depends only on operating conditions. A consumable part throughout production was the steering pendulum. The mechanism here is a worm, as befits a truck, but the strength of the elements is like that of a passenger car. For the officials, the pendulum costs crazy amounts of money. About two hundred dollars with replacement labor. If you buy it online and change it in the garage, you can spend three thousand rubles. Suspension rubber bands are also inexpensive. As usual, the first to go are the stabilizer struts and front shock absorber bushings. Rear suspension lasts a very long time, especially for those who do not carry anything heavier than a dirty rag in the back. If the pickup is used for its intended purpose, there may be options. But, I repeat, you need to try very hard to break the spring. If this happens, then it will not be possible to find our analogues, and the original is replaced by a pair, which costs about seventy thousand rubles. You can, however, find something other than the original at half the price, but this will require the help of those who understand the issue.

Mazda BT-50 and Ford Ranger pickups are often bought because they look like macho cars, and not like a tadpole monster escaped from a laboratory. They are strong, reliable and durable. Weaknesses few. At the same time, you need to understand that with similar dimensions, you cannot expect the comfort of business-class SUVs from trucks. Parking in a pickup truck, especially with a kung truck in the back, is not very comfortable. The camera that appeared after restyling helps out. In Moscow, this is a complete problem - pickup trucks are not allowed into the city center. However, one of my good friends not long ago exchanged one pickup truck for another with the words: “I bought it not to go to the city, but to get out of the city.” And, believe me, everything will immediately fall into place!

Owner's opinion:
Valery, Mazda BT-50, 2008
I bought a three-year-old one immediately after the end of the warranty period, straight from the service lift, where the car underwent its last warranty maintenance. Mileage 150 thousand km, all parts are original. During the service campaign, the gearbox was replaced and the topic was closed. I found traces of blistering paint on the rear doors and chips on the hood. Yes, the paint is rather weak. I don't know what the problem is with fuel system. Once it “dried out” on the highway, I filled up a can of fuel from the tractor driver. The car didn't like the diesel fuel and the traction was gone. I drove to the service center, changed the filter, drained the bad fuel, flushed the system and the problems disappeared. I think I will have this pickup for a long time...

The updated Mazda BT-50 debuted at the Summer Thailand International Motor Show on July 13, 2015. In fact, the model is the first planned restyling of the second generation, which was released in 2011. The pre-reform model had rather low sales, in particular due to its rather unusual design for this class. The manufacturer took these circumstances into account and made the necessary adjustments. The new product has a signature, but at the same time less pretentious appearance. Stylish elongated headlights with large reflectors and elegant sections of LED daytime running lights catch your eye. running lights. The radiator grille has a pentagonal shape and is visually adjacent to the lighting equipment. It is a large horizontally oriented trim with a chrome-plated manufacturer's logo in the center. Overall, the car has received several necessary cosmetic changes that should make it more competitive in this segment.

Mazda BT-50 Dimensions

Mazda BT-50 is a classic frame pickup truck. His overall dimensions are: length 5373 mm, width 1850 mm, height 1821 mm, and wheelbase 3220 mm. Mazda ground clearance BT-50 equals 200 millimeters. Thanks to its solid ground clearance, the car can easily handle off-road driving, climb onto high curbs, and due to its high energy consumption, it will maintain an acceptable ride even on uneven surfaces.

As mentioned above, the Mazda BT-50 is a classic pickup truck in the full sense of the word. Under stylish and modern body the real frame is hidden. Although in the front everything is quite familiar - independent suspension with springs and ventilated discs, however, in the rear everything changes radically. There is a real continuous axle on leaf springs and drum brakes. Despite the archaic structure, it is precisely such technical solutions that are best suited for cargo transportation and overcoming off-road conditions.

Technical characteristics of Mazda BT-50

The Mazda BT-50 is equipped with two engines, manual and automatic transmissions, and rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Thanks to the wide range of units presented, the car becomes relatively universal and is able to satisfy most of the requirements of a potential buyer.

The basic configurations of the Mazda BT-50 are equipped with an in-line turbocharged diesel four with a volume of 2198 cubic centimeters. Thanks to the turbocharger, it produces 150 horsepower at 3700 rpm and 375 Nm of torque at 2500 crankshaft revolutions per minute. The fuel consumption of the Mazda BT-50 will be 8.4 liters of diesel fuel per hundred kilometers in the combined driving cycle.

Top versions of the pickup truck are equipped with a five-cylinder turbodiesel with 3198 cubic centimeters. Thanks to the increased volume, engineers were able to squeeze out 200 “horses” at 3000 rpm and 470 Nm at 2500 rpm. With system all-wheel drive And manual transmission gears, the Mazda BT-50 will consume about 9 liters in the combined driving cycle.

Bottom line

Mazda BT-50 keeps up with the times. It has a stylish and memorable design that will perfectly highlight the character and individuality of its owner. Such a car will look natural both in heavy traffic and on country roads far from civilization. The salon is a kingdom of high-quality finishing materials, unsurpassed practicality and comfort. Even cargo transportation or off-road driving will not cause unnecessary inconvenience. The manufacturer understands perfectly well that for this class of cars, technical content plays a dominant role. That is why the pickup truck is equipped with an excellent line of units that are a fusion of proven technologies and legendary Japanese quality. Mazda BT-50 will become a faithful friend and assistant wherever you go.

Video

Mazda BT-50 II is the second generation of the Mazda BT-50 pickup truck, which was presented in the fall of 2010 at the Australian Motor Show. The first official photos of the car leaked online the day before the opening of the exhibition.

Externally, the Mazda BT-50 (2017-2018) in the new body is strikingly different from the previous generation car. The pickup truck received a completely different front end with a branded radiator grille, a new front bumper and elongated optics. In addition, the car acquired other rear lights, and on the sidewalls of the new Mazda BT-50 the stampings of the “muscular” front and rear wings.

The interior of the Mazda BT-50 II has also been completely transformed. Inside, the pickup received a new instrument panel, a steering wheel similar to the Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-7 models, albeit with different music and cruise control buttons, as well as a large color display of the multimedia system and a new dual-zone climate control unit.

Only one is offered as power units for the Mazda BT-50 in the new body gasoline engine 166 hp (2.5 liters), but then there are three diesel engines with a displacement of 2.2 (available with output of 125 and 150 hp) and 3.2 (200 hp) liters. They are combined in tandem with a mechanical or automatic transmission gears, and the drive can be rear or all-wheel drive.

On July 13, 2015, production of the updated Mazda BT-50 2017 pickup trucks started in Thailand. However, the new product differs only slightly from the pre-reform version. You can note the retouched lighting equipment and a slightly redesigned radiator grille.

In addition, Mazda BT-50 2018 received rims original design, new multimedia in the cabin and a previously unavailable rear view camera. The technology remained unchanged.

Residents of Thailand and Australia will be the first to buy the new Mazda BT-50; prices have not been specified. On Russian market pickup not supplied.

The second generation of the Mazda BT-50 pickup truck entered the assembly line in 2011 and almost immediately began selling it in dozens of countries in Asia and Africa, as well as in Australia (where it is most popular, although it is inferior in sales volume to its platform brother, “ American" Ford Ranger T6).

By the way, according to the Japanese, the lower demand for the Mazda BT-50 (all other things being equal) was dictated by a not very successful design - which automakers from Hiroshima refreshed by 2015 (at that time there was still hope that this pickup truck would return to Russia in a restyled form market... but, alas, no).

The design of the second generation Mazda BT-50 really turned out to be “softer” compared to the Ranger T6.

A pickup truck is a “workhorse” and a “car for men,” and therefore a “weak” design here always has a negative impact on sales volumes (especially in markets where there are more “brutal” competitors). So the Japanese desire to refresh the exterior by 2015 was quite logical and timely... but how effective? The basis for the updated appearance of the pickup truck was again based on the “KODO” style (perfectly suited passenger models Mazda, but little in harmony with the image of a massive pickup truck). In general, as a result of the modernization of the Mazda BT-50 2015, little has changed: a modified radiator grille, slightly more “daring” optics, different bumpers and a new design set for rims.

Otherwise, the pickup remains the same: it is available with three cab options (single, one-and-a-half and double-row), and the dimensions of the car are the same: length - 5124 ~ 5373 mm, width - 1850 mm, height - 1821 mm, wheelbase - 3220 mm.

The pickup truck is capable of fording a depth of up to 600 mm (in the rear-wheel drive version) or up to 800 mm (in the all-wheel drive version). Ground clearance (clearance), regardless of the version, is 230 mm.

The interior of the Mazda BT-50 pickup truck, depending on the cab version, has a three- or five-seater design - with a fairly cozy interior, distinguished by high-quality finishing with durable and non-stainable materials, as well as a good level of ergonomics.

The “Double Cab” version is also quite good in terms of the amount of free space, and a sufficient level of freedom is felt in both the front and rear rows of seats.

Let's add to this high level equipment - and we get one of the best interiors among mid-size pickups on world markets (which, by the way, allows the installation of the Mazda Connect multimedia entertainment complex).

Technical specifications. The Mazda BT-50 pickup has two main engines, both diesel (from the Duratorq line):

  • The junior power unit received 4 in-line cylinders with a total displacement of 2.2 liters (2198 cm³), a 16-valve DOHC timing system, a direct fuel injection system, as well as turbocharging with intercooling of charge air and a variable geometry turbine. The engine fully complies with the requirements of the Euro-5 environmental standard, and its maximum net power is declared by the manufacturer at 147 hp, developed at 3700 rpm. The peak torque of the younger diesel engine is at 375 Nm and is available in the range from 1500 to 2500 rpm.
This engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Regardless of the type of gearbox, a “junior diesel” consumes approximately 8.0 ~ 9.0 liters of fuel in the combined cycle. ABOUT dynamic characteristics The manufacturer does not cover the pickup truck.
  • Senior diesel engine in turn, it received 5 in-line cylinders with a displacement of 3.2 liters (3198 cm³), a 20-valve DOHC timing belt, direct fuel injection and turbocharging with intercooling, as well as a variable geometry turbine. Like the younger engine, the flagship fully fits into the Euro-5 framework, and its upper power limit reaches 198 hp. at 3000 rpm. The maximum torque is achieved at 1750 rpm and is maintained until 2500 rpm at a level of 470 Nm.
There are also two transmissions for the flagship - a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic transmission. As for fuel consumption, the flagship requires from 8.4 to 9.2 liters in the combined cycle (depending on the type of drive and the design of the pickup cab).

We would like to add that in some markets the Mazda BT-50 is also available with a gasoline engine from the Duratec line, which has 4 in-line cylinders with a displacement of 2.5 liters, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, distributed injection, and an output of 166 hp. at 5500 rpm, as well as 226 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm. It is coupled to a gasoline engine, usually with a 5-speed manual transmission.

As part of the 2015 modernization, all Mazda BT-50 engines received: new automatic transmission algorithm settings, new turbochargers, and a redesigned recirculation system exhaust gases- their output remains the same, but their fuel appetite will noticeably decrease.

The second generation Mazda BT-50 pickup, as already noted, is built on the platform of the Ford Ranger T6 pickup truck - it received a front independent suspension based on double wishbones, as well as a rear dependent suspension with longitudinal leaf springs.

The wheels of the front axle of the pickup truck are ventilated brake mechanisms with 2-piston reinforced calipers and brake discs with a diameter of 302 mm. On rear wheels The Japanese install simple drum brakes.

The Mazda BT-50 pickup can be produced with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (added low gear). However, we note that the RLD differential locking function is available only in some markets and only as an option. In return, the Japanese offer: traction control TCS system and DSC stability control system – available as standard.

Options and prices. The basic equipment of a mid-size Japanese pickup truck Mazda BT-50 in most markets includes: 16-inch steel wheels, halogen optics, power steering, fabric interior, full power accessories, electric side mirrors, front and side airbags, ABS systems, EBD, EBA, hill start assist system, air conditioning, cruise control, on-board computer, adjustable steering column, standard CD audio system with 4 speakers and USB support, central locking, immobilizer and full spare wheel.
The list of Mazda BT-50 options includes tubular running boards, metal bumper protection, 17-inch alloy wheels, 2-zone climate control and rear parking sensors.

As for the cost of the Mazda BT-50 pickup, for example, in Australia it can be purchased at a price of ~ 26,000 US dollars (the second generation of this pickup is not officially sold in Russia).

In 2008 Mazda company announced the release of an updated version of the BT-50 pickup truck. The modernized pickup truck inherited the style of its predecessor, but became more attractive. The front end gets new headlights with a silver finish. The taillights have also been updated. The wheel arch trims can be painted in metallic and pearlescent colors, the side rear windows and the rear cab window are tinted, and the running boards have a silver finish.

The pickup truck's interior has become more reminiscent of a sedan's interior. The controls for climate control, audio system, floor console base and instruments are illuminated with amber light. The seats are upholstered in a textured dark gray fabric, while the center inserts are in a shiny, wave-patterned fabric. As before, only Double Cab vehicles (five-seat, four-door cab) were supplied to Russia. The engine is the same - a 2.5-liter turbodiesel with a manual 5-speed gearbox.

In the most the simplest configuration“Direct” Mazda BT-50 pickup is equipped with an immobilizer, hydraulic booster, rear fog lamp, heating rear window, fabric seat upholstery, audio preparation with two speakers. But such popular features as a CD player with MP3 and 4 speakers, power mirrors, central locking, power windows and heated seats are already offered in the “Touring” package. In the same configuration, for an additional fee, the pickup was equipped with air conditioning, a multimedia system and navigation, and 16-inch alloy wheels. The maximum “Active” configuration features running boards, a six-disc CD changer with MP3, as well as a chrome grille, door handles and mirror housings, leather upholstery, and an optional rearview camera.

The car is equipped with a 2.5-liter turbodiesel with an intercooler and a common fuel rail for all injectors. The maximum engine power is 143 hp (105 kW) at 3500 rpm, the maximum torque reaches 330 Nm at 1800 rpm. The maximum speed in this modification is 158 km/h, acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h is 12.5 seconds. Possessing high torque, the diesel engine gives the Mazda BT-50 good fuel consumption indicators - 10.9 l/100 km in the urban cycle and 7.8 l/100 km in the suburban cycle ( average consumption- 8.9 l/100 km). Volume fuel tank- 70 liters. Paired with power unit a five-speed manual transmission and a reinforced transfer case with reduction gear.

The structural basis of the Mazda BT-50 chassis is the Mazda B-Series front suspension with double fork arms and a rigid rear axle with Berlin Eye leaf springs. Car dimensions: 5075 x 1805 x 1755 mm (L x W x H). Cargo compartment dimensions: 1530 x 1456 x 465 mm. Height ground clearance- 205 mm. Wheelbase - 3000 mm. The minimum turning radius is 6.3 m. The car has front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. The weight of the two-cab pickup is 1968 kg. Load capacity is one ton. Mazda BT-50 can tow a trailer weighing up to 3000 kg (for all-wheel drive versions).

IN basic configuration The Mazda BT-50 is equipped with two front airbags, and starting from the Touring version - a four-channel anti-lock braking system with four sensors and a brake force distribution system; in addition, side airbags are present in more expensive trim levels. The presence of a rigidly connected all-wheel drive will save you in severe off-road conditions or increase traffic safety on slippery road, but it is not recommended for use on dry asphalt.

Among positive aspects Mazda BT-50 pickup truck owners call good ride quality and relatively good sound insulation, high cross-country ability and degree of comfort. In general, the reliability of the car is high, but in case of problems with the engine, with improper and untimely maintenance, repairing it can be quite expensive. Obvious disadvantages include insufficiently efficient operation of the stove, problems with ventilation, and weak paintwork.
