History of ZID mopeds: production, conceptual and racing models. History of ZID mopeds: production, conceptual and racing models Price and annual maintenance costs

The moped is a domestic development of the V. A. Degtyarev plant. This lightweight sports road motorcycle (enduro) managed to gain respect not only among many novice motorcyclists, but also among hunting and fishing enthusiasts.

The unpretentious "Mokik" Zid 50 Pilot is designed quite simply. We can say, according to the principle, the simpler it is, the less it breaks. Conventional 50cc air cooled engine, front and rear drum brakes, starting system - kickstarter handle.

Despite its simple design, the ZID 50 Pilot moped shows pretty good results on any road surface. Light weight and large ground clearance enable its owner to move over various obstacles and curbs without experiencing any difficulties. Low-maintenance 50cc engine. See is gaining momentum quite quickly, but under one condition: ride it alone. Maximum load 100 kg. makes itself felt.

The ZID plant engineers did not stop at developing this version of the motorcycle. Based on the Zid 50 moped, a cargo version called Mokik ZID 50 02 cargo And moped Zid Lifan. This plant also produced (at at the moment production discontinued) another version of the motorcycle - ZID 50 Active, the main difference between this moped and the Pilot is the oval plastic fairings. We will talk about these models in more detail in the following articles.

Not to say anything about tuning the Russian moped Zid 50 Pilot. Almost any part of this motorcycle can be improved, from boosting the engine to replacing the brakes. Therefore, the maximum speed recommended by the manufacturer of 50 kilometers per hour can easily be increased to 80-90 km/h without much damage to the engine. Fortunately, our engineers provided us with such an opportunity. But is it worth doing this when you can buy something more powerful, for example, from the 125cc or 125cc motorcycle category? Only you decide! But the fact that at the moment in Russia you do not need to have a license to drive motorcycles and mopeds speaks for itself.

On the Internet you can find many interesting articles on tuning this model, which will allow you not only to add a couple of horsepower your “iron horse”, but also to achieve a more comfortable and safe ride.

Buy Zid 50 Pilot

Directly from the Degtyarev factory buy a new ZID 50 Pilot possible for 42 thousand rubles. Prices for used mopeds start from 5 thousand rubles, it all depends on the condition of the motorcycle. In a good situation, after spending several months searching for a decent option on sites like auto.ru and other similar ones, such a moped in very good condition (used) can be bought within 10-15 thousand rubles. It all depends on your desire and ability to bargain.

As for purchasing spare parts for the ZID 50, you definitely won’t have any problems with this. You can buy them at almost any motorcycle store.

By buying a Zid 50 Pilot, you are buying an easy-to-use, simple-design moped that will bring you a lot of joy and positive emotions. For owners of country houses or simply “dacha residents,” this is an ideal option for going to the nearest store to buy groceries. Moreover, it does not need to be registered with the traffic police, and you can ride it without a license.

ZiD 50 Pilot for a long time a dream for future bikers who dreamed of a two-wheeled steel horse. It is not a motorcycle, and a license was not required to drive it before the introduction of the “M” category. The bike is now out of production, but buying a used copy is not difficult.

Design

The moped looks like a small enduro, which it is. Long-travel suspensions, a raised tail, a raised muffler, a minimum of plastic - when you look at the photo, it immediately becomes clear that it was created for rough terrain. Of course, the Mokik ZiD 50 Pilot cannot be called a full-fledged two-wheeled SUV, but it copes well with country roads and dirt roads.

Technical characteristics of ZiD Pilot 50

The ZiD Pilot is inferior to all modern analogues, but when it first went on sale, it was head and shoulders above the usual "Karpaty" and "Riga". But his technical specifications were good for their time, which was the reason for the high popularity of the model.

Engine

Ordinary 2-stroke air-cooled motor with 2 valves and one spark plug, capable of accelerating the ZiD Pilot moped to 60 kilometers per hour. The manufacturer declares a maximum speed of 50 km/h, but this was done so that, according to the documents, the bike met the requirements for mopeds. Engine power - 2.7 horsepower, torque is about 2 Nm.

Transmission

Archaic 3-speed gearbox works very well. Unlike Chinese pit bikes, the gears are changed like on a motorcycle - the first one is down, the rest are up. The third can be safely engaged already at 30 km/h.

Chassis and brakes

It's hard to come up with something simpler. ZiD Pilot 50 is steel frame, mechanical drum brakes on both wheels and a standard suspension with telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock absorber at the rear. The suspensions do not have high energy intensity, but since the moped is designed for one person, they are enough.

Electronics

Electronic filling in Pilot practically none. It doesn't even have a battery! So the light optics are powered directly from generator. There is no electric starter either - please be content with the kickstarter. Everything is simple, even primitive, and therefore very reliable.

Weight and dimensions

Dry weight moped is only 87 kg, and equipped - about 100 kg. Any motorcyclist, even an inexperienced one, can handle the ZiD 50 Pilot. And thanks to its modest dimensions, the mokik easily makes its way between cars in traffic jams if its owner gets carried into the city. But it is better to avoid traveling on busy roads, as the bike clearly does not have enough power for them.

Controllability

Thanks to its modest weight and compact dimensions, the ZiD 50 01 moped is not just easy to control, but very easy. You just need to get used to the ease with which it tilts and the steering wheel, which is not very convenient for long-armed drivers.

Fuel consumption

A 2t engine, by definition, is not economical, and the mokik from the factory named after. Degtyareva, without hesitation, consumes up to 2.5 liters gasoline per 100 km. The ZiD Lifan version with a 4t engine has lower fuel consumption, and the Chinese replaced the archaic K 39 carburetor with their own, more modern one.

Motorcycle price

You can buy this model for a couple of tens of thousands of rubles, offers for secondary market enough. Old ZiD 50s are even sold ten thousand, but the condition of the cheapest copies is often depressing.

Repair and tuning

Even before the plant named after. Degtyarev was bought by the Chinese, this mokik had enough tuning, which enterprising citizens ordered from China. And everything necessary for repairs can be found in Russia, and it is inexpensive.

Repair

The moped has several weak points. Firstly, it often starts front fork leaking. The problem is eliminated by replacing the oil seals and anthers, but when driving over rough terrain, sooner or later it will appear again. Secondly, dear carburetor K39 no different high quality, and problems often arise with it. Many owners change it to a Chinese equivalent.

Spare parts

Despite the fact that the ZiD 50 moped was discontinued a long time ago, there are practically no problems with finding spare parts. Almost everything you need is easily found in motorcycle shops and markets. The price tag for the parts will make any motorcyclist cry with envy - they are sold almost by weight.

Tuning

Rural bikers have gotten used to garnishing their mokiks with various optional improvements like new steering wheel grips or windshields, but the main thing is that it has the opportunity to change the piston, increasing the volume. On Aliexpress, and even in Russia, you can find 70 cc CPGs that fit perfectly on original engine. As a result, the moped's agility noticeably increases.

Motorcycle modifications

The very first version was called ZiD 50 01, and it is this that is the classic “Pilot”. On its basis a cargo truck was designed modification 50 02, and “Active” is exactly the same mokik, but slightly modified in appearance. And later the bike was replaced by a ZiD Lifan, equipped with a Chinese 4-stroke engine and a new transmission.

Pros and cons

When considering them, we must not forget that we are talking about a simple bike entry level, produced a decade and a half ago, and designed using technologies of the last century. For its time, this model was quite good.

Advantages

  • Light weight. Everyone can cope with mokik.
  • Simple design . Disassemble, repair, and put the ZiD moped back together - no problem, even if this is your first bike.
  • Reliable engine . The transmission is also not particularly fragile.
  • Not bad pendants. They confidently handle roads without asphalt.

Flaws

  • No passenger footrests. The bike is designed strictly for one person.
  • Weak brakes.
  • Gas tank volume ZiD 50 - only 6 liters.

Plant named after V. Degtyarev, better known to us as ZiD, was founded during the First World War. It was then that the first buildings of the Kovrov Machine Gun Plant began to be erected in Kirov. Many years later, in 1946, he began producing motorcycles. Many probably remember the legendary K-125, Kovrovets and, of course, Voskhod. And the very first small-capacity motorcycle of the Kovrov plant came off the line only in the nineties of the last century. It was a ZiD-50 Pilot model.

The first swallow

The ZiD-50 “Pilot”, which appeared on domestic roads in 1995, became the first moped of this plant. And four years later, another batch with a raised wing in front was released in Kirov. It was called "Active". And although it was, like the “Pilot,” two-stroke, there was a significant difference: it differed from its ancestor in the presence of an original plastic body kit in the style of cruisers. In 2004, this version was slightly improved by creating the ZiD-50-01, which was equipped with a four-stroke Chinese Lifan engine with a power of 2.72 horsepower.

It is noteworthy that this model used a semi-automatic clutch, as a result of which its handle disappeared. Like the ZiD-50 “Pilot” moped, it was also intended for tourist and business trips. The vehicle was also suitable for walking on a variety of surfaces.

ZiD-50 "Pilot" - technical characteristics

It is equipped with a two-stroke 50cc engine with 3.5 horsepower. Small in size, it reaches a maximum speed of up to 50 km/h, while consuming on average up to 2.2 liters per hundred km. This moped weighs seventy-six kilograms. It was originally equipped with a three-speed gearbox combined with the engine into one unit.

Judging by the reviews, the ZiD-50 “Pilot”, which is still not uncommon on our roads today, is most suitable for short trips. It is preferred by those who like to feel the adrenaline and whistling wind. ZiD-50 “Pilot” is suitable for all age categories. It is simply indispensable for those who want to gain initial skills for riding two-wheeled vehicles with a motor.

In addition, the ZiD-50 “Pilot” is very unpretentious in repair. It is equipped with rearview mirrors and turn signals. Thanks to the cubic capacity of the engine, you can ride this legendary moped without a driver's license.

Flaws

Like any other vehicle, the ZiD-50 “Pilot” is also characterized by both its advantages and disadvantages. Its very first disadvantage is the weak shock absorption and not very strong frame, which are especially noticeable off-road and when jumping on potholes.

In addition, the headlight of the ZiD-50 “Pilot” is intended only for detection on the road. And also, according to some, the shape of the seat is not entirely comfortable: after a long ride the body becomes very numb.

If you don’t want to travel in stuffy, crowded transport and depend on its schedule, or just walk, we suggest purchasing a Zid 50-05 moped.

Conveyor assembly of a moped at JSC Plant named after. V.A. Degtyarev" is carried out with 100% inspection of each component and standard testing, which guarantees the reliability and quality of the vehicle. The inexpensive and easy-to-use moped Zid 50-05 is indispensable for trips around the city. It will easily take you to the institute or store. It is also easy to operate it on country roads, getting to your summer cottage, on a picnic, hunting or fishing.

Maneuverable, with convenient trunk And economical consumption fuel, moped ZiD 50-05 - for people of any age.

Reviews from ZiD 50-05 owners

ZiD 50-05, 2013

Well, let’s start - ZiD 50-05 is exactly the same as Delta and Orion 100. Well, it’s not suitable for long distances, weak engine It’s better to bet on one hundred and ten cubes. The moped is light, very comfortable, not very beautiful, the tank is very small, and I personally don’t like the trunk at all. There are two seats on it, but only if two teenagers sit there, it will fit, but if two normal men sit there, then it won’t, and it will be difficult for him to lead them. The front fork is bad, for the first thousand kilometers it was just wooden, the rear shock absorbers are bad, I have already changed them, since it is not possible to ride on them. You need to go through a good run-in, if you don’t do well, then the ZiD 50-05 can be killed within a year. Change everything as written in the instructions. There is little gasoline, which is very convenient. Drives slowly. And the bolts on it are very bad; when I bought it, half of the bolts still had to be tightened. My opinion is that this is a moped for a neat, quiet ride. And it's up to you to decide whether to take it or not.

Advantages : Eats little gasoline. Not expensive.

Flaws : bad materials. Not beautiful.

Alexey, Cherepovets

ZiD 50-05, 2012

The moped is not bad, the engine capacity is only 48 cubic meters. see, and the ZiD 50-05 does not drive very fast (about 60 km/h), but there are no problems with traffic police. Yes, and I personally bought a moped in 2010, and I will tell you that the engine of this device is reliable (there have been no breakdowns as such until now). As for the frame of this unit, it is not higher than 4 points, since the metal is quite weak and therefore it is advisable to try not to carry heavy objects. But overall the unit is good (no worse than the “Alpha” and other “Chinese”).

Advantages : compared to the “alpha”, the cross-country ability is better, and not expensive (21-22 thousand rubles).

Flaws : frame metal is weak. The tires are soft (not for off-road use).

ZiD 50-05, 2012

This miracle of technology is produced at the Degtyarev plant. Made from Lifan brand components. The ZiD 50-05 moped is quite light (up to one hundred kilograms), easy to operate, and economical. Good visibility (two rear view mirrors). The seat is designed for two riders (only not solid, but separate). Therefore, the data vehicles are increasingly popular among the fairer sex. A huge advantage is that the ZiD 50-05 frame has small trunk(in front of the driver) and you can put shopping bags on it. The four-stroke engine, with a volume of 48 cubic cm, clearly fits into the category of mopeds, which means that driver's license not required. Only a helmet is required. The moped easily maintains the speed limit in locality(60 km/h). You can drive it into nature; it is not afraid of bad roads. True, I don’t recommend driving long distances at such a speed (it’s too tiring).

Advantages : maneuverable, easy to operate, economical.

Flaws : wheels are not interchangeable (different sizes).

Alexander, Novosibirsk

ZiD 50-05, 2013

The first thing after purchasing a ZiD 50-05 is to immediately check all connections (bolts, nuts) and tighten them. You can treat them with silicone grease or WD40, and then you will have a better chance that nothing will come loose. But after this method, the nuts and bolts may become so stuck that you can’t tear them off only if you use a liquid wrench. If possible, I advise you to immediately change all the wiring to insulated wiring or something more expensive. It is also better to change all the hoses at once, the more expensive the better. Also on the ZiD 50-05 there is no protection against dry shifting, since the gears are located in a circle, you can calmly turn off the engine and switch from 4th gear to neutral. But there is also a drawback to this, because I drive along a country road in a lower gear and immediately engage 4th gear; more than once I have touched the gearshift lever and switched to 3rd or neutral - that’s the second thing, this is not very good for a moped. As I read on the ZiD forums, in the 2014 model this problem has already been eliminated and you can’t switch from 4 to neutral without pressing the clutch. What can I say - the moped is light, the engine is 48 cubic meters, the “maximum speed” according to the speedometer is 60 km/h, and according to the transmission 80, then the cut-off is triggered. But accelerating to 80 on a ZiD 50-05 is not realistic, because... the engine is very weak. A person can easily pull up to 100 kg; on a good road you can easily accelerate to 60. A person over 120 kg can barely move. A friend was riding a girl on my moped, the total weight was about 120 kg. The moped was no longer confident in accelerating, but still picked up a speed of 60 km. By country roads The ZiD 50-05 also goes well, but in the sand it can blow your rear off, so I immediately engage 4th gear and drive quietly, as if in low gear. It’s especially good to drive like this in mud and you won’t get stuck. The moped just sniffs gasoline. I don’t know how much it uses, but the tank lasted a long time. Problems over 2 seasons - first the carburetor sneezed, a neighbor quickly blew it out without removing it and adjusted it. Then it began to twitch when changing gears, as it turned out the clutch was burnt out, I bought a new one for 1650 rubles.

Advantages : low fuel consumption. Spare parts are always available in the central region.

Flaws : The Chinese engine cannot be compared with the Soviet one both in quality and characteristics.
