For example, that you are unlikely to ever be able to get used to the strange behavior of the brake pedal, which I talked about in detail in the first part of the long-term Datsun test. Probably, the headlights and radiator grille for this model will be in high demand.

Another feature of the automatic Datsun is the ability to... stall while stopping! Once again - a car with automatic transmission gears, without newfangled start-stop systems, it can stall and stall during a stop. Datsun representatives are aware of this problem and promise to fix it soon. The automatic selector also does not shine with convenience - when you turn on D, no, no, you will slip further into position 1 or 2. You realize the mistake after the start, when the gearbox, following the instructions not to shift higher, makes the engine run noisily at higher speeds.

On the five-door, the front bumper fit perfectly, but on the four-door model, not so much. The badges on the radiator grilles have peeled off on both almost new cars. The doors are thin and close loudly, and when you turn on the audio system, cheap speakers make a dull thud.

In the sedan's interior, you can see how the plastic linings on the A-pillars of the roof have swelled from heating by the hot summer sun. The interior of both models has a pronounced “Zhiguli” aroma. There are also questions about ergonomics: to close the driver's door from the inside, you have to literally dive into the opening. The steering wheel is not adjustable for reach, so not everyone will find the ideal fit. But the comfortable chairs are pleasing: covering a long route in them will not be difficult. A revived Japanese brand car company Datsun, the rights to which belong to Nissan, has now become oriented towards the production of affordable cars. The debut for the company was a new affordable sedan Datsun on-DO, developed specifically for Russian consumers.

Therefore, the model was designed to cover this price segment. Many Russian motorists have the funds to buy much the best cars than Russian cars, but they are not enough to purchase a Japanese vehicle.

In addition to the market future, issues of prestige also played a big role in the company’s recovery: Nissan could not decide to provide its own name inexpensive car, so as not to lose face in the niche of expensive premium cars.

The sedan itself is assembled on one of the conveyors in Togliatti, where components of its own production are used. But it cannot do without imported spare parts. Interior

The interior of the new Japanese car is designed on the Lada Granta interior platform and Lada Kalina, however, is very different from them. In addition to the mentioned configurations designed to increase the level of comfort, the Datsun on-DO also has electric drive mirrors with a heating function.

In a more advanced configuration, the car boasts a frontal airbag for the front passenger and side airbags, a multimedia system with a display that supports touch input, a Cityguide navigation system, heating windshield and alloy wheels designed for 14 or 15 inches.

Improvements compared to Granta

The manufacturers also assured that the noise and sound insulation of the interior has been radically improved, the calibration of the springs along with shock absorbers and the technical properties of the suspension themselves have changed. Power unit

The engine on the Datsun on-DO is a four-cylinder petrol VAZ 1.6 liter in volume. The power of this “heart” develops to 82 horsepower. This aspirated engine has four cylinders arranged in a row and a lightweight connecting rod and piston group.

The manual transmission allows the sedan to reach the first hundred in 12.9 seconds, and its top speed is set at 165 kilometers per hour. If we talk about the “automatic” box, it loses 1.4 seconds to the “mechanics” in acceleration to 100 km/h, however, it is superior in the maximum speed limit at 1 km/h. According to the passport, for every 100 kilometers, the Datsun fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 7.4-7.7 liters of fuel (depending on the version of the car).

Suspension

In order to adapt the car to not very good roads, new gas-filled shock absorbers, as well as vacuum brake boosters, were developed and subsequently installed. In addition, ground clearance has been increased to 185 mm. When loaded it is slightly smaller – 168 mm.

The Datsun on-DO received an independent suspension with McPherson struts in front and a semi-independent torsion beam on the rear axle. The suspension was retuned, some silent blocks were replaced with more durable ones, however, in general, this is already a familiar VAZ solution with its advantages and disadvantages.

Driving the Japanese sedan is quite easy, thanks to electric power steering, which is even included as standard.

Theoretical crash test

As a result of the impact, the collision axis passed by the power unit and rushed towards the driver's seat. As for the front and rear doors of the left side of the car, they were opened under the influence of the powerful force of the collision. The door frame in front was deformed, causing the car to lose a point.

Such a malfunction is defined as a loss of integrity and a reduction in the degree of safety according to EuroNCAP standards. Speaking of the steering column, it is worth saying that it has moved inside the car by half a meter and deviated upward by 68 millimeters.

The displacement occurred following the deployment of the airbags. The cabin capsule was able to maintain its structural integrity; only the A-pillar was damaged, which was bent by 70 millimeters. This deviation is normal and indicates acceptable body strength.

The dummy's head did not hit the steering wheel or dashboard thanks to the airbag, which was able to deploy in time. However, there are also shortcomings with similar triggering. The mannequin was thrown onto the side stand, as a result of which it was subjected to an impact that in reality would have caused a concussion or skull injury. Very unusually, however, the standardization of a European company does not record or take into account such side effects during the calculation of the results.

The clutch and brake pedals were moved inside the car by 90 and 120 millimeters. Based on this displacement, they will not cause damage to the legs. The floor of the car was not greatly deformed, and the seats and parts of the interior were not displaced.

As a result, the direct relative of the Japanese sedan, the Lada Granta, scored 8.4 points out of the maximum possible 16. The following received similar ratings: vehicles, How Fiat Albea, Chevrolet Lanos And Hyundai Solaris. Theoretically, the Datsun on-DO is at a similar safety level to these cars.

Options and prices

The production of Datsun on-DO was established at the Volzhsky Automobile Plant in Togliatti, and sales of cars began in the summer of 2014. The cost of a new Japanese sedan of 2016 in the standard Access configuration will be 436,000 rubles.
