Which is better focus 2 3. Comparative test of Ford Focus and Toyota Corolla: credit history. What is the alternative?

06.09.2016

Ford Focus 2 was one of the best-selling golf cars between 2005 and 2008. It was expected from the second generation of Focus that it would be sold in the same quantities as the first generation, and today we can safely say that the developers were right and the car became very popular among car enthusiasts and fully met their expectations. Ford Focus 2 is available in three types bodies - sedan, three and five-door hatchback and station wagon. Mainly on secondary market There are cars of Spanish, German and Russian assembly.

Ford Focus 2 began production in 2005, and almost after the start of sales, the car became one of the leaders in sales due to adequate price, high-quality assembly and a large selection of configurations. In 2008, the manufacturer carried out a restyling, after which the car acquired a more charismatic and modern design. On the secondary market, the second generation of cars can be found in various trim levels, from the basic “Ambiente” to the top-end “Titanium”. In total, buyers were offered five configurations to choose from.

Weaknesses of Ford Focus 2 with mileage

For Ford Focus 2 there were four petrol engines of 1.4 (80 hp), 1.6 (100 hp), 1.8 (125 hp) and 2.0 (145 hp), as well as diesel versions 1.6 (90 and 109 hp), 1.8 (115 hp) and 2.0 (136 hp). Power unit 1.4 is quite rare and only on cars in basic configuration, most Today, cars with such an engine have practically exhausted their service life, since such cars were mainly bought for taxi fleets. The 1.8 engine can present a lot of negative emotions, the main problem lies in throttle valve and the control unit, because of this the engine may stall and not start the first time, and at idle the speed constantly floats. This problem is treated by installing firmware from a two-liter engine. Also, when choosing a car with a 1.8 engine, you need to make sure that it is dry, since it often breaks through the valve cover and cylinder head gaskets.

When operating a car with a gasoline engine, you need to be prepared for high costs for fuel. So, for example, a 1.6-liter engine paired with a manual transmission in the city consumes 10 - 11 liters per hundred, and in a two-liter engine with active driving, the consumption can be up to 15 liters per hundred kilometers. Diesel engines demonstrate unpretentious operation, excellent torque and moderate fuel consumption (6 - 8 liters per 100 km), but you must remember that a diesel engine is sensitive to the quality of diesel fuel.

Transmission

All engines except 1.4 could be equipped with an automatic transmission or manual gearbox; with the 1.4 engine only manual box transmission All engines paired with a manual transmission provide a good dynamic ride. Unfortunately, such words cannot be said about the automatic transmission, since it works quite slowly. Both transmissions have a considerable service life and are considered one of the main advantages of the second generation Ford Focus; even cars with a mileage of more than 150,000 km do not cause any particular complaints in this regard.

A manual transmission can present an unpleasant surprise in the form of difficult reverse gear shifting, which is accompanied by a crunching sound. This problem is explained by the lack of synchronizers, so after constant mishandling, the reverse gear begins to fly out. It is this drawback that you should pay attention to when choosing a used Ford Focus 2.

Ford Focus 2 suspension reliability

If we talk about the Ford Focus 2 suspension, then first we need to mention that its design is quite unusual, like for a golf car of that time, it has a MacPherson strut in front and a multi-link in the rear. This arrangement gives the car excellent handling and a good ride.

Front suspension parts life:

  • The original stabilizer struts and bushings have a service life of 50 – 70 thousand km.
  • Silent blocks can last 90 – 100 thousand km.
  • Support bearings run up to 90,000 kilometers.
  • Ball joints 100 – 120 thousand km.
  • Wheel bearings will last no more than 100,000 km.
  • Shock absorbers 120 – 150 thousand km.

Rear suspension if you drive in a big city on a good road and occasionally drive off country road, will last up to 100 thousand km, and if it’s bad, then the service life will be no more than 70,000 km. And if the rear suspension requires repair, then it’s better to do major renovation, if you don’t want to visit a service station once a week.

Salon.

The interior of the Ford Focus 2 is aesthetic and laconic, and a driver of average height will be able to sit quite comfortably, however, there are many reviews from tall owners (185 cm and above) that there will not be enough legroom, and there will also be little space for a passenger sitting behind the driver. On forums, owners in their reviews claim that the interior of cars assembled using Russian plant Over time, many crickets settle in, and cars brought from Spain or Germany do not have such a disadvantage. But as domestic operating experience has shown, cars assembled in the European Union actually have higher-quality interior materials, but over time they also appear extraneous sounds and the older the car, the more sounds there are.

Result:

Ford Focus 2 has a small number of shortcomings, and in terms of value-to-quality ratio, the car remains the most attractive in its class. Most likely this is why this car quite in demand on the secondary market to this day. When choosing this used car, you need to be extremely careful, since cars of this brand are used in taxis and rentals, and there they are used mercilessly.

Advantages:

  • Reliability of engines and transmission.
  • Controllability.
  • Wine-loving and comfortable suspension.
  • Spacious interior.
  • Not expensive to maintain.
  • There are a large number of non-original spare parts on the market.

Flaws:

  • Weak paintwork.
  • High fuel consumption of gasoline engines.
  • Noisy salon.
  • Small trunk.

If you are or were the owner of this car brand, please share your experience, indicating the strengths and weaknesses auto. Perhaps your review will help others correctly.

Hello. Today we have FF2 and I want to ask you a few questions. And I will talk a lot.
1. What is bad about painted cars? Or just painted body parts?
2. What do C class cars look like when they are about 10 years old?
3. How can you tell if a car is well painted?
4. How important is mileage up to 100,000 km for a used car?

I’ll tell you right away that there won’t be many photos today. Why? Partially described here - Do I like to read more than watch? Where are the photos and text? But today I will partially write only the theory. Why no photos again? Because if you watch the video, you will see so much that even 1000 photos are not enough... and there are many moments that are not conveyed through photos... but first things first.
They asked me to pick Ford Focus 2 on the machine for about 350,000 rubles. Lively, with a minimum of colors, good technique and! attention! with a mileage of about 100,000 km or a little more, or better yet less. Am I the only one who can’t figure out what the salt is? What kind of mark is 100,000 km? But I will try to explain everything to you.

Naturally, I did NOT take up the selection. And does this mean that I am arrogant? No, everything is simpler. I don't bother looking for cars older than 7 years. Is this my whim or my need? Here I am forced to explain myself.
How much does a new FF on automatic cost? I will answer - 1,000,000 rubles (one million rubles) with a tail. Add there winter tires, CASCO, carpets, alarm, engine protection and more. Even with all the discounts, you'll go broke.

What do you expect from such a car for 350,000 rubles, which is 8-10 years old?
And everyone is waiting - no colors or a couple and no more. Mileage up to 100,000 km or so. Good technical condition. There are not many owners, the original title and so that there is room left for two more so that it can be sold normally. Not rotten, not broken, etc.
How can I find one? I'm not traveling to a parallel universe... be realistic? The mileage of 90% of cars in any metropolis is 15 - 25,000 km per year. And here is the indignation of many... But this is a fact. Another 5% of cars will have even higher mileage! And about 5% remain with original/honest/low mileage. Where do these cars go? It’s described a little in this post - I’m dispelling the myths that I myself wrote about. Sable. Sandero. Solaris. And if such a car reaches the advertisement, then the price will be appropriate (not cheap).
Everyone wants the perfect car for 30% -35% of the cost of a new one. How realistic is this? Ask yourself. How much are you willing to sell your ideal car for?
And I immediately suggest the client add money. No, this is not my whim, this is common sense and nothing more. But there is no more money... should I buy something else? No. We can only hope for a miracle. But I won’t be able to find this miracle, so I have no desire to start selecting and look at all the cars in the city for free in order to understand that this is “firewood”, you know? And you come across the “half-wood” option, and for lack of a better way to say it - BUY this is the best offer, I’m speechless. It’s much better to look at a couple of pieces of junk for money, and the person will understand everything himself. Is this fair of me? Let's figure it out.

And VK links flew. One, two, three. I went in and looked. Outbid. The other one is clearly firewood. The third is similar. Refused to watch everything. Other links. I hit everything. Mileage 80,000 km in the ad, old ads of this car with 170,000 km. The other one has 100,000 km, the inspection has 190,000 km and it was done yesterday. And so for all cars... there were beatings, of course, and simply with restrictions on registry actions. For my part, I have already saved the man a lot of money. But I understand that even if there is an option that is good at first glance, it is not a fact that it will be so when you come to look.

And here's the announcement. 3 owners, in fact 2, one of the owners outbid, but registered the car with himself. The basics are clean. 2009, automatic, 1.6l. No accidents in the database. No arrests or anything like that. The mileage in the technical inspection is the same (it was less than thousands by some, but they drive the car). But the girl is selling the car, which is kind of a problem. But for every rule, there is an exception, right?
And I tell the client, call yourself. Talk, communicate. Find out what is painted and other little things. Find out everything and decide whether to watch or not.

Why didn't I call?
This is the moment. Firstly, I already helped a lot in breaking through other cars (in fact, I don’t need it). Secondly, I have already learned from my mistakes. There was an incident that everything seemed to be normal, and the phone was all on fire, but I arrived and it was full of firewood. And the client expressed his opinion that I went to earn money, and that it was all my fault, I specifically chose this one so that I could look at 5 more cars later. In fact, I was simply deceived by the seller. Now I’m smarter, I don’t take on such responsibility. And I always warn you, and they can lie to me, I’m not God, I’m just using the correct algorithm. But at its core, if I choose a car myself and call, it’s called choosing a car, and I also end up with rubbish. Understand that everything why I have changed so much (for the worse) depends directly on my clients. And in order not to be extreme, it’s easier to refuse something than to be shit later. Do you understand? although this is unlikely to be important to you...

The client called.
The girl spoke confidently, the car was checked when we bought it, the doors were painted, and even then without putty. The rest is intact. Of the jambs, only vital chips. Always served. Everything was always done on time. The car is in excellent condition, as stated in the ad. We bought it from a reseller (remember this). And they give me the go-ahead for inspection.
It is also worth saying that there were no photographs showing the condition. That is, just photos in which nothing is visible. Let's watch it already? Otherwise I’ve sickened everyone with my nonsense...

Now you have seen my photographs. Who noticed what? Is there a plug in the bumper that goes under the hook? So I’ll tell you that this was not visible in their photographs in the ad! The angle of the photo was such that the right side of the bumper was completely invisible. What else did you see?
I started to inspect the car from the back.
* The rear right fender is dented.
* The chrome trim is cracked and secured with four self-tapping screws, as can be seen in the video.
* The only real damage is on the edge of the rear right fender near the trunk lid, chips.
*The top trim on the trunk lid is simply black, not painted.

At first I thought it was varnished. But when I got closer than 15 meters, I understood everything... Let me list what is painted, what are the mistakes and, most importantly, how it was done:
* The trunk lid is painted homemade... with snot... with craters... pathetic...
* Rear left wing painted similarly. Moreover, if you open the trunk lid, you can see that the seams have come apart... that is, everything is crooked. and I didn’t even pay attention to whether there was factory welding or not... They checked the car with a thickness gauge according to her words... but here it is not needed, such firewood is already visible... but I poked it once into the rear wing, 400 microns showed, it didn’t work anymore... The wing is already rotting arch. And the putty on it burst (you can see it in the video)
* The paint is peeling off in the opening of the trunk lid... naturally it has been repainted.
* The rear door opening has been repainted (also rotting). The new paint has fallen off and you can see the factory paint underneath. (everything is clear in the video)
* The middle pillar has been repainted. Risk everywhere... snot...
* The left threshold has been repainted and is already rotting... there is terrible shagreen everywhere.
* The driver's door has been repainted... with a bunch of paint mistakes... Risks, snot, craters.
* The rear bumper is cracked in several places and putty is falling off.
* The front bumper was spray painted; they did not hide this during inspection. Only the right part of the bumper was spray painted, and it was the right part of the bumper that was not visible in the photo (you need to decipher what spray painting is?) I'm not kidding. They just blew from the balloon.
* The right threshold is jammed. Is he painted? I didn't even look.
* The entire face has been repainted, that is, both wings and the hood. Everywhere there is risk, putty, craters, snot and everything is crooked.
* There are dents on the rear right door.
The whole thing we have (without jambs) is the front right door. That's all... and maybe there's something I haven't noticed yet. Or maybe I didn’t describe all the jambs.

So, do you think that bad paint is considered a fault of the car? Or is it good? It doesn't look too bad from 25 meters. The answer is in the comment.
I may have missed a lot of things, but you get the picture. That's not all. Naturally, everything that could be filmed was filmed. Even the inside of the trunk lid was not properly painted (you can see it in the video).
The fastening bolts for the front wings of the FF2 are covered with hard plastic. On the left side it does not stand still... and the wing is rotting... in general, everything that is painted here is rotten. Either the paint is spitting up, or it is swollen...

It is impossible to put this plastic back in place. Why? Because the mudguard behind the wing is jammed. There's a fold there... and until you do it body work, everything will be crooked there.

But they even tampered with the wiring on this car... it may not be very clear in the photo, but the wiring was rewound with Russian electrical tape, and no one knows what was there (even the seller). And part of the body air filter re-soldered (you can see it in the video). By the way, the TV, although not made of iron, is clearly painted. Anyone who fumbles will understand this from the video.

Well, do you think it’s possible to convey all this with photographs? And I'm out of them for today. Have you seen the salon yet... I often write that all that’s left to do is shit... so this time, someone did it for me... horror... I didn’t get into the car... I didn’t ride in the car. I didn't see the point in this.
Let’s do without the inspection result, but let’s analyze this car based on the questions from the beginning of the post. Here one thing follows from the other. What's wrong with painted cars? Or just painted body parts?
Everything painted here is ROTTING. From start to finish, absolutely everything. And this is almost the entire car. What's so good about this paint job? Each of you will say that his car is well painted, I don’t believe it... You are 5% of total mass, and all these 5% are NOT focused on D2, although I know what the comments will be... in Russia, cars are painted for sale and for sale by 90% of people. And this means as cheaply as possible, for a marketable appearance. And no one cares what will happen to her later. And it’s one thing if one wing is painted, it can be repainted, but it’s another thing when the whole car has such a level of repair.
Many will say, everything is not critical here, she is 8 years old, what did you want? I call such people nothing less than shit-eaters. Not everyone wants to eat shit, but there are some. Others practice urine therapy instead of taking a pill. Everyone has their own opinion, but such cars are junk (my opinion)... it has a real price, it’s even hard to say what it is... auto disassembly will cost you as much as it will. Here is a typical example of painted cars! Whether this is good or bad, let everyone decide for themselves, but to understand the level of colors, watch the video.
And many painted cars are simply broken. Not tinted, but broken, overcooked.

What do C class cars look like when they are about 10 years old?
It must be said right away that these cars are the most popular, not counting Rio and Solaris. And if everything is clear with the B class, then those who saved up for the C class (somehow) often do not have the money to maintain even such cars. Hence the half-dead state. Even finding a C class car in which the oil in the automatic transmission has been changed at least once is very difficult, and sometimes impossible. Everyone always leaves everything for the next owner. And the next one again leaves everything to the next one, and this happens until the machine becomes stuck. In Russia, everything is at random! Maybe it won't break! Maybe I’ll have time to sell it!
On the other hand, people have high expectations for such cars. You often want a lot for 30% of the cost of a new one. Too much. That’s why you buy either “firewood” or from outbid dealers with plastered lips. This car was previously resold. Do you understand how he screwed her over? I bought the beating, doused all the jambs for a pittance (that everything was rusty or fell off), almost smeared it on my lips, and at the bottom of the market I rewinded it to the first sucker, saying that 2 doors were repainted, the rest was intact. And to confirm his words, he poked them with a thickness gauge, which they (the buyers) understand nothing about. Is it really necessary to talk about openings? About the elongated B pillar?

How can you tell if a car is well painted?
Almost impossible, in fact. I have written about this more than once. I usually tell everyone this - a freshly painted car almost always looks like a mess. And if it was painted a long time ago, then the jambs have either already come out, or everything is fine. Maybe someone remembers post - 403. Mercedes W202. Rate it. This car was not painted yesterday, and what should have come out has already come out. That's why I'm afraid of painted cars... especially when there are a lot of paint mistakes on them, like this FF2. Each of you, of course, decides for himself. Sometimes you look, it’s done well, 2 layers of paint, no putty, everything is fire, even the color got into it. Well, is this a minus for the car? And after six months the paint swells, and they go to repaint it again... so whether a car is painted well or poorly does not mean that there will be no problems in the future. Understand this!

How important is mileage up to 100,000 km for a used car?
This is complete nonsense, and a relic of the Soviet Union... 100,000 km is the beginning of the life of many modern cars. Again, evaluate the condition of the car. You enter search criteria (on car sales sites) 8-10 summer cars, and set the maximum mileage to 100-120,000 km? This means, with a 99% probability, you will only run into outbid buyers, unscrupulous sellers and beatings, overcooked cars, squandered mileage, etc... and somewhere out there, in the advertisements, there is an honest, well-maintained car, according to average price, with a couple of colors, from a good owner, with a mileage of 180,000 km. But when I find one, they twist my head, 180,000 km? Are you out of your mind? She already had 4 rubles of capital... but what resource was left there? And they go, take the junk with 90,000 km on the dashboard, and shout, LOOK, I found it! Not that you are 180,000 km away! I mocked them a couple of times, hit their cars... everyone had far over 200... Now I don’t upset people, I bought it, drive it, be happy if you can (drive it).
It’s much better to buy a car from a loving owner, but if he painted it, he did it for himself, and not for sale! Yes, he will tell you more about the car than I do and say that it needs to be changed soon. But such people are not held in high esteem in Russia... and they sell a car for six months and give it to resellers. And they, in turn, well, then you know... the mileage on the dashboard is 90,000 km, not broken, not painted and sold.
What's better than 100,000 km and riders? Or 150-200,000 km and car enthusiasts who understand cars and take care of them? But 100,000 km is a psychological mark... even in my VK group I have seen more than once that 100,000 km is junk for many... and try to explain to this that the car has just started driving? And if this concerns VAG, then there are 30,000 km for many scrap.

What does a mileage of 100,000 km give?
Overall - NOTHING. This doesn't say anything about the condition of the car. NO WAY! Is this car better than the other? Better than a well-maintained one with 150,000 km? And even if the mileage is original and up to 100,000 km, does this mean that the car is ideal? Maybe this is the total after the insurance, that’s why the mileage is low? Maybe it was on fire, and stood for 2 years, and they were looking for money and spare parts? The car must drive, and they drive. This car is 8 years old. Multiply 8 by 15 - 25,000 km? The normal mileage of these cars is from 120,000 km to 200,000 km. So look for a normal car! And not mileage up to 100,000 km.

Honest 100,000 km. And an honest 140,000 km. Which is better for one condition?
Of course, there will not be just one state. But look. Timing belt on FF2 - belt. I change it once every 100,000 km and it’s time to change it again. For 140,000 km twice and buy with a nearly new timing belt.
Rubber. At 100,000 km it is often dead, old, dear. At 140,000 km it’s alive, new, about new.
Rear suspension FF2. She dies at 100,000 km. And buy with a half-dead chassis? By 140,000 km it will be replaced in 80% of cars.
Racks and overall chassis. 100,000 km everything is original, everything is on the way (half dead). 140,000 km everything has been replaced for almost all of them.
And I could go on forever, but 140-160,000 km are often even more trouble-free than 100,000 km. Have you thought about this? Take my Almera. I bought it with dead summer tires (RUB 7,000), but if I bought it with a little more mileage, it would be new, right? And so on for all cars. Your treasured 100,000 km gives you nothing.

Finally, a word about the buyer.
Imagine the client’s surprise when I told him the condition of the car? He said - Yes, I talked to her. I kept asking. Yes, she told me! How can you lie like that? Yes, she... and off we go. YES, this is a used car. And there is no guarantee that the seller is lying, he may not know (not this case, of course). But there are zero complaints against me, just thanks. And it may not be right to punish people with rubles, but it is effective. Very effective! When people see the real condition of these cars, perhaps they will actually save a little money or look at other cars. Won't I go and watch? Someone else will go. And either the authority will earn, or the kickback will take and give such a “machine” to the client. There is a very fine line here that is difficult to assess. I even wrote everything honestly, although I understand the indignation in the comments. Well, hypanu doesn’t mean much.

Will I take such cars for selection?
I’m generally ready for this (I was ready before). I’m just telling everyone, mileage 150 - 200,000 km, 60% of the car will be repainted. This is the norm for such cars. But I'm ready to find a well-groomed, honest, and touched-up one, not a beating. Who do you think agreed? You didn’t guess... ZERO. Then it’s easier not to get involved than to be a garbage collector... there are many of them... I don’t want to be one of them...

That's all I have for today. I believe that such a “theory” is much more important than just inspecting the car, which I usually post. Although not a great post for many, it has much more benefit than throwing mud at an inspected car. I hope everyone appreciates my efforts. I tried to explain a lot. PEACE to all.

PS: there will be another post about mileage and condition. The car has already been inspected. The accumulated mileage explained this before the inspection, but still, the person psychologically thought that the condition would be like a car with 100 tkm. And there the condition is exactly 200,000 km, which is what the car has. Guess whether they bought it or not?

When choosing a new car, car owners often ask the question: which is better - the Ford Focus or the latest generation Kia Rio? It is important to understand that the third Focus is a car of a higher class and belongs to the C+ segment. But also new Kia there are some tricks up your sleeve, for example spacious trunk and lower cost of rich trim levels. By the way, the characteristics given below are also valid when choosing between Ford Focus 2 or Kia Rio previous generation.

Brief description of Kia Rio

Korean engineers took into account all the features of European thinking and created a car that was able to gain a large number of fans. The only peculiarity is the difference between the versions for American, European and Russian consumers. The difference lies in the different bumpers and the shape of the headlights, color solutions, engine range and suspension settings.

The version for Russia boasts good ground clearance, tuned suspension and large luggage compartment volume. Cars are assembled at a modern plant in St. Petersburg.

Brief description of Ford Focus

Focus is very popular in Russia, not only among ordinary drivers. Sedans can often be found in the livery of traffic police departments or other law enforcement agencies. Russian assembly in Vsevolozhsk not only does not degrade the quality of the car, but also adds several pleasant options in the form of a battery with increased capacity and a reinforced starter. This allows you to start the engine without problems even in severe frosts.

Exterior Kia

Which is better - Ford Focus or Kia Rio? The exterior of the “Korean” is more youthful and consists of many chrome elements throughout the body. It also didn’t happen without led lights. You can choose a body: sedan, station wagon or hatchback.

The front part is made in accordance with all modern standards: a large radiator grille with small cells and optics with built-in lenses that can change the height of the light beam. Windshield smoothly flows into the hood with developed ribs. The bumper contains not only built-in fog lights, but also LED running lights that turn on automatically.

In profile, the sedan looks balanced and expensive. The roofline follows the curve of the side glazing, which has a chrome trim at the bottom. The side of the body boasts pronounced aerodynamic lines stamped on the fenders and doors. The mirrors are painted in the main color and are equipped with a heating system and electrical adjustment from the interior. Aluminum wheel design may vary depending on trim level. The feed is not innovative and consists of LED lights and a bumper with built-in reflectors.

Ford exterior

The front of the Focus is very reminiscent of the Aston Martin, which was previously owned by Ford. The C-Class is available in sedan, hatchback and station wagon body styles.

The hood consists of pronounced ribs on the sides and in the center. The optics have a predatory squint and are equipped with LEDs, lensed xenon and high-pressure nozzles to remove contaminants. The radiator grille is made of long horizontal elements coated with chrome. The manufacturer's badge is located just above the radiator grille, just below the hood line. The complex-shaped bumper is painted in body color and is equipped with an additional protective cover made of black plastic. The fog lights, which now have a chrome trim, also remain in their usual place.

In profile, the large ones immediately catch the eye rims, behind which disc brakes are visible. There is a distinct rib stamp on the fenders and doors that add a personal touch to the car. The side mirrors are equipped with a turn signal and electrical adjustments. There was also the option of heating the mirror element. The threshold is securely covered with black plastic protection.

Rear end hatchback and station wagon are equipped with a powerful roof antenna and a glass cleaning brush. There is also a fashionable spoiler that continues the roof line. The bumper is made in a classic style and is additionally equipped with reflectors.

Which is better: Ford Focus or Kia Rio - in part appearance It's difficult to compare. Both cars have a stylish design and modern solutions.

Kia interior

The Korean car boasts a bright instrument panel and stylish lighting for all keys in the cabin. The steering wheel is covered with genuine leather, and the multimedia system control keys are built into the rays.

The “Korean” salon can be called classic. The design of the instrument panel in the form of deep wells makes it easier to read information, and the screen has good detail. The main advantage of the Kia sedan is the luggage compartment. The capacity is amazing - 500 liters, while the Focus has an obscene 375.

The answer to the question of which is better: Ford Focus or Kia Rio in terms of luggage compartment is unequivocal - Kia.

Ford interior

When comparing the Ford Focus and Kia Rio in terms of interior design, Ford definitely wins. “American” belongs to class C+ and is equipped not only with a large number of options, but also with high-quality plastic with an excellent fit.

The steering wheel is covered with genuine leather. The sports uniform allows you to choose a comfortable position for your hands when driving. The side beams have sections with keys for controlling the multimedia system. The instrument panel is made in a classic arrow style, LED backlight soft and does not irritate the eyes. Display on-board computer colorful and has all the necessary information about the car.

The center console has a large 8-inch display with a navigation system, a USB slot and Bluetooth connectivity technology. The dual-zone climate control control keys resemble Volvo cars. The gear selector lever is framed in a chrome frame and installed in a fairly convenient place.

The seats are upholstered in leather and equipped with an extended adjustment system. The driver's back or lower back will not get tired even during a long trip. The central armrest is wide and contains a built-in drawer for small items. The back row is equipped with a comfortable sofa with an orthopedic backrest. Air ducts from climate control are located at the feet of passengers to maintain optimal temperature in winter time. The trunk turned out to be modest. The volume in the sedan is only 375 liters.

If we compare the Ford Focus and Kia Rio in terms of finishing materials and general equipment, then the first place should be given to the Focus, but in terms of luggage compartment the sedan noticeably loses.

Technical characteristics of the Ford Focus

Buyers mainly choose Focus with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine which produces 85, 105 or 125 horsepower, depending on the configuration. Also available 1.5 liter turbocharged unit with 6-speed automatic transmission. The maximum stated power is 150 horsepower, and the speed is limited to 208 km/h. Consumption on all power plants does not go beyond 7 liters in mixed mode.

Technical characteristics of Kia Rio

The “Korean” received two engines: 1.4 and 1.6 liters. The 1.4-liter unit develops power of 107 horsepower. Equipped with a manual or automatic 4-speed transmission. The 1.6-liter engine produces 123 horsepower and is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission or manual transmission. Fuel consumption is stated at 6.2 liters in mixed mode, and maximum speed- 190 km/h.

When asked which is better: Ford Focus or Kia Rio power plants, it’s difficult to answer. The cars have good consumption figures and a sufficient amount of horsepower under the hood.

Difference between options and prices

The cars are equipped with all modern equipment and useful options. But the Focus is ahead of its rival in the number of SRS airbags (6 versus 8) and in the total number of available options.

Some positions presented only in Focus:

  • Tire pressure sensors.
  • Camera reverse.
  • Vehicle monitoring system in the “dead zone”.
  • Electric driver's seat.
  • Autonomous engine heater.
  • Automatic parking system.

The listed options cannot be installed in Kia Rio.

Due to the higher class and set of options, Ford is on average 150,000-200,000 rubles more expensive than Kia. With average equipment, Rio will cost the buyer 850,000 rubles, and Focus - 985,000 rubles.

When choosing between a Kia Rio or a Ford Focus 3, Ford wins the comparison due to the wider number of available options.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of the Focus include an advanced chassis, better quality finishing materials and sufficient sound insulation. Trunk volume is a weak point of the American sedan, as is the higher cost.

“Korean” turned out to be balanced and unpretentious. The final cost of the car is significantly lower than the “American” one, but it also has fewer options. The only disadvantages include lower quality interior materials and insufficient space for rear passengers.

Konstantin Yakubov: Ford Focus II, 2008, 1.8 l, manual, Ghia, mileage 47,000 km

The design is pleasant, although the rear of the “third” Focus hatchback reminds me of the KIA-Sid. Finally they thought of covering the sills with plastic and removed the hood lock from under the emblem! And they realized that symmetry is not only beautiful, but also correct: two reversing lights and a pair of fog lights are better than one of each. The mirrors in the visors are more solid, they have built-in lighting - a small thing, but nice. You can also lock all doors with a button on the console.

But inside there is no longer the same freedom as before. Safety, for the sake of which everything was probably started, is an important matter, but you still want to move! There is less space in the back; I also like the driver's seat better in its predecessor. The mirrors are no better than before - with a dead zone where a motorcyclist riding between the rows can easily disappear. The steering wheel is overloaded with buttons; some of the functions should have been transferred to the steering column switches. The headlight switch is located inconveniently: it is tilted towards the floor - you can’t see it while driving. You can’t just get into the glove compartment: the front passenger’s knees prevent the lid from opening. The glossy panel of the radio instantly becomes captivated.

I don’t like the complication of the design, which inevitably leads to higher prices. Two large wipers with separate motors, also stepper ones, are, of course, cool, but I don’t think that visibility in the rain has improved dramatically. I continue: the headrests are no longer removable, but a bunch of extra light bulbs and lights have appeared. Why all this abundance of light?

But the 1.6-liter engine does not detonate when starting, like my 1.8. But at the same time, 125 “new” forces are somehow liquid and do not pull evenly throughout the entire range. But I really liked the box, the switching on is soft and clear.

In general, the impression is ambivalent. If earlier the choice of “Focus” was obvious to me, now I’ll look around, fortunately the competitors are not asleep.

Tatyana Kodachenko: Ford Focus II, 2007, 2.0 l, manual, Ghia, mileage 73,000 km

My assessment is from a passenger's point of view. We bought the car when our daughter was already born. At the nursery, I placed her with a friend of mine, at least half an hour away by car. My husband and I know that the safest place for a child is the seat behind the driver. But if the baby does not look forward, he will begin to rock.

Therefore, for many years, the seat on the back left became mine. We sit our daughter next to her, on the right, lower the backrest front seat and remove the headrest. Such a number will not work in the new Focus - the headrests are made non-removable.

I have traveled a lot in the backseat of the “second” one: a trip to Switzerland, two trips to the Baltics, and I can’t count the trips to the Moscow region. My husband's height is two meters without a couple of centimeters. When he adjusts the seat for himself, the passenger has about fifteen centimeters of legroom left. Several times I had to travel for ten hours or longer, but I sat behind him quite comfortably, despite the fact that there was always something stuck in the pocket of the chair: maps, magazines, guidebooks. All this does not rest on your feet - there is still room left!

When I climbed into the new Focus, and my husband habitually adjusted the chair to fit himself, the lower part of the back immediately crashed into my legs. There is space in front of the knees, but the chair is curved in some kind of arc, so the knees are comfortable, but the position of the feet cannot be changed. Without this, you can’t sit for 40 minutes, let alone several hours!

Of course, I liked a lot. For example, shorter rear doors. On our model they are noticeably wider, and usually, trying not to hit the car standing next to me, I do not open the door completely. And also new hatchback I like the look, especially the three-quarter view at the back! But still, as a family car, the “third” Focus is perhaps a bit cramped.

Andrey Sidorov: Ford Focus II, 2008, automatic, Ghia, mileage 30,000 km

When the sun is low on the horizon, a fairly noticeable rainbow plays on the windshield. Not to say that it is too disturbing - perhaps it is even funny to watch the play of light against the background of the road. The air vent grille and the instrument panel visor are reflected in the same glass. But in the glove compartment I found a USB connector, which was missing before.

Where my Focus has turn signals in the headlights, the new one has side light sections. Very convenient! They shine brightly and where they need to be. They are activated even when the steering wheel is turned slightly, approximately 15°. When you drive forward, the side you are turning on lights up; back - the opposite way, so as not to blow someone away with your wing.

I have not yet come across a more practical parking sensor than on the new Focus. An informative screen, an unobtrusive squeak, four zones in front and behind, extending to the sides.

The electronic gas pedal is very correct. It seems that its task is not to control the supply of gasoline, but to communicate to the “brains” the driver’s intention to accelerate. And they will decide how to do it with minimal damage For environment. Up to 2000 rpm the car frankly stalls, then, up to the limiter, it goes normally, but still there is no expected acceleration. You need to constantly turn the engine and click through the gears. I can’t say that it annoyed me very much - it’s a matter of habit.

The gearshift timing indicator will probably be useful for someone. To me, this is a toy. After 2000 rpm, if the gas is not in the floor, the arrow lights up: go to higher. But she doesn’t know what my plan is! For example, I’m driving in fourth, I bump into a truck, and when I let off the gas, I’m waiting for the moment to overtake and possibly switch to third. And electronics are hammering your brain: give it a fifth, otherwise you’ll burn an extra gram of gasoline!

By the way, about expense. I took a car with an average consumption on the trip computer of 11.2 l/100 km. After 400 km of suburban highways, it slipped to 10.1 liters. If you consciously save, you can keep it to 8–8.5 liters (and with the air conditioning on).

The car handles roughly like its predecessor, the Focus, but goes a little smoother. When driving sharply off a wide speed bump, the front end makes a noticeable knock.

When it rains, the rear window splashes noticeably less.

The trunk shelf has become stiffer, although not by much. In my Ford it bends even under its own weight. If you are going to install a roof rack, then keep in mind: now it is only suitable with supports on the roof - they would not wipe the paint. The previous model is more practical: it has nuts for the struts covered with plugs.

Resume? I definitely liked the car! For complete happiness, I would like a more powerful engine, 140-150 normal “horses”, and not these strangled ones. And the size of wheels from 16 inches raises questions (of course, if you don’t plan to participate in races).

Mikhail Gzovsky, testing editor

A comparative test of the Focus will come later, but for now we are giving ourselves over only to emotions and first impressions. The engine was a revelation for me. If I had not seen with my own eyes the registration certificate with the power recorded on it, I would never have believed in 125 hp.

The new Focus with a 1.6-liter engine is comfortable to take off - the car is ready to start with idle speed. But if you then push the pedal to the floor, it won’t move! The engine begins to actively respond only from 3500 rpm; for more or less active driving it will have to be cranked. The reason is probably in the “brains” designed to fit the engine within the Euro-5 framework and reduce fuel consumption.

I was surprised by the ambiguity of the interior. Cozy, beautiful, solid, but, alas, cramped. I feel like I’m in a car of a lower class: from the driver’s seat I’m pushing my neighbor with my elbow, sitting “behind me” is not easy. Fortunately, the suspension is pleasing: with even better ride quality and energy efficiency. A real breakthrough is a noticeable reduction in noise and vibration.

Let's see what other impressions our future Focus will leave from the first production batch of the Vsevolozhsk assembly (now we were filming a sample that arrived from Germany).

WHAT HOW MUCH

The first “tricks” of the new generation will roll off the assembly line in Vsevolozhsk in August. These will be five-door hatchbacks. The release of sedans is scheduled for September, station wagons will appear only at the beginning of next year. But three-door hatchbacks disappeared from the lineup forever.

In similar configurations compared to its predecessors, the new product is more expensive by an average of 30,000–80,000 rubles. The final difference depends on the engine. Sometimes the rise in price is a consequence of better energy availability. For example, the basic Focus III is 33,000 rubles more expensive than the second one, but under its hood, instead of a weak 1.4-liter 80-horsepower engine, it has a 105-horsepower 1.6-liter engine.

So, replace the old ones gasoline engines units of the family came in 1.4 (80 hp), 1.6 (100 and 115 hp), 1.8 (125 hp) and 2.0 l (145 hp). Duratec Ti-VCT with a volume of 1.6 liters - 105 and 125 hp, as well as a 2-liter 150 hp Duratec GDI. They are equipped with a variable valve timing system, the most powerful - with direct injection fuel. The 1.8 liter (115 hp) diesel engine gave way to its 2-liter (140 hp) counterpart. The base transmission is a 5-speed manual. All but the weakest engines can now be mated to the PowerShift robotic transmission.

Four configurations are offered. Initial “Ambient” (from 499,000 rubles) with front airbags, ABS, electric mirrors and front windows, central locking, 15-inch wheels, etc. is in many ways similar to the previous basic “Limited Edition” (from 466,000 rubles). You have to pay extra for air conditioning and music, but previously it was cheaper - 25,900 rubles versus 39,200.

In the next version, “Trend” (from 581,500 rubles), these options are already standard, heated mirrors and 16-inch steel wheels are added. By the way, in the similar previous version “Comfort” (from 522,000 rubles), you had to pay separately for “music” - at least 11,900 rubles. The “Trend Sport” package (from 640,000 rubles) is equipped with side airbags, rear electric windows, fog lights, alloy wheels, sports front seats, premium console trim, etc.

But the Focus II, in a similar priced Titanium version (from 612,000 rubles), also had light and rain sensors. Now they are gone, as well as auto-dimming rear-view mirrors, but there is an ESP stabilization system with an EBA emergency braking assistance function. Titanium is now the most expensive Focus (from 685,500 rubles). Here you will get rain and light sensors, plus dual-zone climate control, a hill start assist system, and a push-button engine start. New options include parking assistant, blind spot monitoring, and more.

The color palette of the new Focus consists of ten shades (previously limited to six). For metallic - an additional payment of 10,000 rubles.

Ford Focus II, Ford Focus III: Two by three Ford Focus II, Ford Focus III: Two by three

Comparing which is better: Corolla or Focus is a rather interesting idea, since both cars are in a similar price category, have enough options, and are well adapted to Russian conditions. Before purchasing, any car enthusiast should compare several different brands and models to make the best choice for themselves.

For comparison, Ford Focus 3 and Toyota Corolla will be used; 2007 is the year of manufacture for both cars.

This choice is not accidental, since these are the models that are most in demand on the secondary market, and by the age of ten their prices are not much different.

First impression

In terms of dynamics, the cars differ little from each other. Japanese engines are traditionally more reliable, but their maintenance is more expensive, and Ford boasts a more modern design. Ford Focus three, even by modern standards, has a fairly stylish design. It looks harmonious, a little aggressive, while Toyota has calmer and more rounded lines. The Toyota is smaller in size than the Focus, but not by much. It is worth noting that Ford has higher ground clearance, which is better when driving on uneven roads.

The Ford's interior design is more interesting; the Toyota's is not too pretentious. At the same time, the design looks simple, but tasteful. Seating is quite comfortable in both cars; there is enough space in the back for tall passengers. They are standing in front comfortable seats, which can be adjusted in different positions. The controls are at your fingertips, so you won't have to reach for them, no matter which brand you choose.

General technical specifications

When choosing which is better - a Focus or a Corolla car, many buyers first of all look at the technical parameters of the car. They are interested in power, engine size, and how much fuel will be consumed. Of course, only a new car can have absolutely correct data. Depending on the condition, some parameters, such as fuel consumption, may vary for used cars.

Ford offers two engine options. Both are common on the secondary market. These are 1.6-liter engines that differ in power: one of them has 105, the other 125 hp. With. You can find a unit with a volume of 2 liters, it has 150 liters. With. In addition, the car was produced with diesel engine power 140 hp With. and volume 2 liters. On average, a Ford Focus three takes about 6 liters of gasoline on the highway; in the city, consumption can increase significantly.

Toyota Corolla also provides a good choice: the manufacturer offers two types of engines – 1.4 and 1.6 liters. The power of the first is 97 hp. s., second - 124 l. With. If you like speed, a more powerful unit will be more suitable. It is capable of not only reaching high speeds, but also performs better when maneuvering in the city. The Corolla's fuel consumption is slightly higher than its competitor's - about 7 liters on the highway.

Chassis

Looking ahead, we note that a comparison of the two cars showed: Toyota is more dynamic in motion and has smoother driving characteristics.

Ford Focus performs well in city traffic, but the power steering reacts too thoughtfully. The car reacts poorly to steering wheel movements. You need to make an effort. Toyota does not have such a problem; when you turn the steering wheel, the response is immediate. Brake system Ford is distinguished by high accuracy and instant response to pressing. It is quite enough for both a two-liter and less powerful version. Toyota also boasts high-quality, quick-setting brakes.

If we compare the behavior of cars on high speed, then the Ford takes turns better, listens precisely at the highest possible figures, while the Toyota can skid slightly in turns. However, at lower speeds the picture is the opposite: the Corolla handles well, having no problems reacting to the driver's actions, while the Ford hesitates, since feedback is clearly lacking.

If you compare the behavior of cars in the city, it is quite difficult to notice the difference. The only thing that catches your eye is the softness of the gearbox shift on a Japanese car.

You will have to get used to the Ford, and at first it will most likely stall on you.

Conclusion

Speaking about the advantages of cars, you can notice Ford’s balance, smooth movement, attractive design, spacious salon. Toyota is distinguished by its reliability, spacious interior and clean lines. Both cars can give each other good competition. When making a purchase, special attention Pay attention to the technical condition, as used cars can be very different.
