The video will tell and clearly show about the process of replacing the timing mechanism with Chevrolet Aveo.

Replacement procedure

Before proceeding directly to the replacement process, it is necessary to understand that this procedure is quite difficult and will require considerable time. Thus, it is recommended to study the technological schemes, as well as design features motor. Next, we will collect the necessary tools for the replacement.

Belt and two rollers.

Consider the sequence in which it is worth carrying out operations to change the timing belt on a Chevrolet Aveo:

  1. Remove the negative terminal from the battery.

    We open the hood.

  2. We unscrew the protective cover of the timing.

    Remove the timing belt side cover.

  3. Now, you need to do so in order to set the top dead center. To do this, turn the crankshaft until the first piston is in the TMV.

    We expose the timing marks.

  4. We compare the timing marks on the pulleys and the block.

    We compare the marks with the crankshaft pulley.

  5. We dismantle the belt, having previously lowered the tension roller.

    We dismantle the belt and two tension rollers.

  6. Let's start the assembly process. Installing new rollers.

    We mount new tension rollers.

  7. We put the timing belt on the camshaft pulleys, and then on the crankshaft pulley.

    Installing a new belt.

  8. Install the timing cover. Assembly completed.

The process of replacing the Chevrolet Aveo timing belt may seem difficult, and therefore it is worth calculating your strength. In case the motorist is not sure, it is recommended to contact a car service for operations. On average, the changeover process can take from 1 hour to 3 hours.

Part selection

Almost all Chevrolet cars, including Korean ones, are equipped with General Motors spare parts. At the same time, Aveo was no exception. The original timing belt for the Chevrolet Aveo has a catalog number of 24 422 964. The average cost per automotive markets is about 4000 rubles.

Also, it is worth considering that you will have to take two tension rollers. You can buy everything in one set, but it is better to choose separately. Timing belt tensioner - 55,574,864, cost - 8,000 rubles. Timing belt guide roller - 24 436 052, with a price tag - 2000 rubles. Total spare parts for replacement in the original are - 14,000 rubles.

Output

It is quite easy to replace the timing chain on a Chevrolet Aveo with your own hands. To do this, you should have minimal knowledge in the design of the engine vehicle and also follow the instructions. And if there are problems, car services will always help.

The timing belt plays a very important role in the propulsion system. Thanks to him, fuel with the correct pressure and density circulates through the system. In the event of a timing belt failure, or rather its failure, this will affect the entire engine.

On Aveo cars with a 1.2 and 1.4 engine, when the timing belt breaks, the valves shift. In this case, the repair of the engine is very expensive. To avoid this, it is necessary from time to time to check the condition of the belt for maintenance using diagnostics.

To be honest, sometimes even a simple displacement of the belt or its disengagement from the teeth is enough to bend the valves. On my Aveo car LS 1.5 the belt does not bend when the valve breaks, it’s not a joke, it’s better not to risk it, and in any case, the belt will jump off or break, then replacing and repairing the rollers and the belt itself will be expensive.

It is better to predict all this and, with minimal losses, change the belt and all the necessary components in garage conditions. It takes up to 2 hours to change the belt in the company of my car, but this is my personal experience.

According to the regulations, the belt serves 50 thousand km, after which it must be replaced with a new one. In practice, timing belts travel 100 thousand km, and even more. Any creaking or rattling from the side of the belt is a sign and reason for diagnosis.

Instructions for replacing the timing belt

  1. Remove the right wheel (front, of course).
  2. Remove the plastic protection from the side of the wheel by unscrewing the fixing nuts along the edges.
  3. Unscrew the plastic protection on the front of the car.
  4. Now I recommend jacking up the engine a little.
  5. Remove the air filter (housing).
  6. Unscrew the engine mounting bracket.
  7. Block the flywheel with improvised means. I used a flat blade screwdriver.
  8. Remove the crankshaft pulley by unscrewing the fixing bolt. I have it firmly stuck and I used WD-40, which I recommend to you.
  9. Remove the alternator belt and unscrew the alternator belt tensioner pulley. Immediately I recommend to pay attention to the belt and rollers. If there is wear, change. I'm fine, so let's move on.
  10. Remove the upper part of the timing gear cover.
  11. Do the same with the lower part of the timing drive.
  12. Align the marks on the crankshaft sprocket with the mark on the bottom of the timing case.
  13. Align the marks on the crankshaft pulley with the mark on the top of the timing case.
  14. Align the hole in the timing belt tensioner arm with the hole in the timing belt bracket. Insert a drill into the hole to loosen the toothed belt and fix it.
  15. Loosen, but do not remove, the 3 antifreeze pump mounting bolts (water pump, in other words). Unscrew so that no liquid flows out.
  16. Using a special key, turn water pump counterclockwise until the toothed belt tensioner loosens.
  17. So we got to the timing belt itself.
  18. Unscrew the fixing bolt of the tension roller and remove it.
  19. Assess the condition of both the roller and the timing belt. In my case, the roller for replacement, the belt had minor wear, but not significant. However, I decided not to play with fire and immediately changed the timing belt and rollers. Everything is still bought.
  20. Install the new roller in place.
  21. Turn the water pump already clockwise, tightening the toothed belt as much as possible.
  22. Rotate the water pump so that the mark on the timing belt tensioner lever is aligned with the mark on the timing belt tensioner bracket.
  23. Everything, the procedure for replacing the timing belt can be considered finished. Make sure several times that the installation is correct and that all marks match, otherwise you can damage the car.
  24. Start the engine, listen to its sound.
  25. Check the performance by driving a distance.
  26. If during this time nothing happened - no knocks, extraneous noise from the engine compartment and other things, then the replacement of the timing belt was successful.

I strongly recommend changing the timing belt in service centers. Doing this in the garage, especially on your own, can cause irreparable or hard to repair damage to the car. Above all, think about the consequences.

What is the timing belt for?

- a rubber rim, inside of which there is a metal frame. This part connects the crankshaft and distribution shafts, thus synchronizing the movement of valves and pistons.

It is especially important in the gas distribution mechanism, where the valves and pistons are in the same space. In this case, he does not allow them to meet. If the belt breaks, the pistons hit the open valves. In this case, the valves bend and the pistons deteriorate, which leads to costly repairs. This is true for Chevrolet Aveo cars with engines of 1.2 and 1.4.

To avoid high costs for repair work, you need to monitor the condition of the timing components and change worn parts in time. The belt drive needs to be replaced if:

Together with the strap, the tension roller and the pump are changed if scratches, chips, or play are found on them. The cause of oil marks on the surface is usually worn oil seals, in which case they must be replaced.

Change the belt yourself

The terms for replacing consumables are indicated in the Chevrolet Aveo operating instructions. According to the manufacturer's recommendations, the toothed belt should be changed after 50,000 km. The resource of quality products is large, so it is better to make a decision on replacement after a visual inspection.

Necessary tools

To carry out the replacement, you need to prepare: purchase Consumables and prepare a set of tools that includes:

  • a set of keys and heads;
  • collar;
  • pliers;
  • Phillips and flat screwdrivers;
  • torque wrench;
  • jack.

Repair kit for Chevrolet Aveo

For comfortable operation, the car must be installed on an accessible device: a lift, a viewing groove, an overpass.

Perform the procedure on a cold engine. For safety, the car must be put on the handbrake and fix the wheels so that the car does not roll.

Stages

The sequence of actions when replacing the timing belt on a Chevrolet Aveo is as follows:

  1. First of all, you need to de-energize the car by removing the negative terminal from the battery.
  2. To provide access to the place of work, it is necessary to dismantle the air filter housing and the air duct.
  3. Then you need to disable the intake air sensor.
  4. Next, we raise the car a little with a jack and unscrew the bracket of the power engine.
  5. Then you need to remove the right front wheel and front engine protection.
  6. Next, remove the right support power unit and a pillow, having unscrewed fixing bolts and nuts.
  7. Using a flat screwdriver, fix the flywheel, and then unscrew the crankshaft pulley mounting bolt.
    We fix the flywheel from turning

    This requires some effort. You can use WD-40 to make it easier to twist.

  8. When the fixing bolt is unscrewed, the crankshaft pulley can be dismantled.
  9. Next, remove the alternator belt and tension roller. Removed parts should be inspected. If they are defective, they must be replaced.
  10. Having unscrewed the fastening bolts, we first dismantle the upper and then the lower cover of the gas distribution mechanism.
  11. Next, you need to bait the crankshaft pulley mounting bolt and, turning it clockwise, you need to align the mark on the pulley with the slot on the bottom of the timing case.

    Aligning the marks on the pulley and casing

  12. Similarly, the marks on the camshaft pulley and the upper part of the casing of the gas distribution mechanism are combined.
  13. Now loosen the mounting bolts on the water pump. To loosen the belt tension, turn the pump counterclockwise.
  14. Remove toothed belt.
  15. At the next stage, we unscrew the tensioner roller mounting bolt and remove the tension roller.
  16. We install a new tensioner pulley in a regular place.

  17. If necessary, change the water pump. To do this, you need to dismantle the gears of the intake and exhaust camshafts, as well as the plastic protection.
  18. After replacing the pump, we reinstall the plastic and the removed gears.
  19. Next, we tighten the new timing belt.

  20. Adjust the tension by turning the water pump clockwise. In this case, the pointer on the tension roller must match the mark on the tensioner mount.
  21. Checking everything again installation marks. If they do not match, repeat the installation.
  22. If everything is fine, we start the assembly in the reverse order. At the same time, we tighten the bolts to the moment specified in the Chevrolet Aveo manual.

After completing the work, you need to start the car to listen to how the engine works. If not heard extraneous sounds, which means that the replacement is done correctly. Thus, you can save on visiting a service station by learning how to change drive belt gas distribution mechanism on a Chevrolet Aveo.

In order for the car to function normally, a scheduled replacement of any consumables should be made. These include the timing drive. It is also necessary to carry out its periodic diagnostics. The drive can be both belt and chain. Here we will talk about replacing the timing gear on the Chevrolet Aveo 1.2 T250. Here we invite you to familiarize yourself with detailed instructions to replace this consumable.

The purpose of the timing drive

The belt drive is a rubber hoop. Inside it is placed a frame made of metal, which gives it the necessary rigidity. On the inside of the belt there are teeth through which it meshes with the gears. The purpose of the timing belt is to synchronize the operation of pistons and valves by connecting the engine shafts.

Pistons and valves are placed in the same space, and if the belt breaks, they will meet, which does not bode well. In this case, the valves will definitely bend, and the pistons will also receive irreparable damage. In addition to them, the cylinders will also suffer. In short, the engine will have to be seriously repaired. To prevent this, it is sometimes necessary to diagnose the condition of the belt so as not to miss the moment of its final wear.

But what symptoms will indicate that it is high time to replace the belt with a new one:

  • the surface of the belt looks clearly worn, cracks, chips and other similar defects were found on it;
  • the teeth no longer look fresh, they are worn out;
  • there has been a delamination of the material from its base;
  • the ends are fluffed up;
  • oil stains were found on the surface of the belt drive.

The presence of oil on the belt indicates that the oil seal has begun to leak. So it needs to be replaced. Otherwise, the oil will continue to fall on the new consumable, which, of course, will disable it very quickly, just as oil corrodes rubber. In addition to the belt and seals, it is necessary to replace some more consumables. The tension roller can also be attributed to them. But if his appearance still inspires confidence, then you can not do this yet. But if it is scratched or has chips, then it is better not to risk it, but to change it along with the belt.

Change the belt yourself

The manufacturer clearly regulates the timing of belt replacement - after 50,000 km. If you cannot rely on your knowledge, invite a specialist and he will determine whether it is necessary to replace the belt right now or whether it can still serve.

If you still decide that the drive needs to be replaced, go to the store and buy new consumables there - a belt, oil seals, rollers (if necessary). But what tools should be prepared for repairs:

  • necessary keys and heads;
  • collar;
  • wire cutters;
  • screwdriver set with different types tips;
  • jack.

To make the work comfortable, the car should be put on a flyover or lift. All work can be carried out only when the engine has cooled down. Don't forget to secure your car. Don't neglect security issues.

Sequencing

1. First, we de-energize the car. To do this, disconnect the left battery terminal.
2. Dismantle the casing air filter and air duct. Thus, we will provide access to the necessary nodes.
3. The air intake sensor should be disabled.
4. Remove the bracket of the power unit by slightly lifting the car.
5. We dismantle the wheel on the right, and with it the motor protection.
6. Remove the engine mount by unscrewing all fasteners for this.
7. Now we fix the flywheel with a flat screwdriver. Loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt. Get ready for the fact that it will not work quickly, and you will have to try.

8. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
9. We dismantle the tension roller together with the generator drive. Carefully inspect the removed parts and, based on this, make a decision on the need to replace them.
10. Now we remove both timing covers - first the top and then the bottom.
11. Now we need to rotate the crankshaft pulley so that the mark on it aligns with the slot on the lower timing case. In order to make the pulley easy to turn, you need to make a bolt of its fastening. You don't need to screw it in completely.

12. In the same way, the mark on the crankshaft pulley should be aligned with the slot on the bottom of the timing cover.
13. Scroll the water pump pump clockwise. To do this, you will have to unscrew all the necessary bolts.
14. Dismantle the belt drive.
15. Remove the tension roller by unscrewing all the bolts securing it.
16. We put a new roller in its place.

17. It is possible that it will be necessary to dismantle the water supply pump. To do this, remove the plastic protection and camshaft sprockets (inlet and outlet).
18. When the pump has already been replaced, put the removed sprockets in place.
19. We make a tension of a new belt drive.

20. Scroll the water pump clockwise, thereby tensioning the belt. In this case, the mark on the rollers must be aligned with the mark on the tensioner fastener.
21. Once again, we check the correctness of combining all the marks. We make adjustments if necessary.
22. If everything is combined, we begin to reassemble the mechanisms.

After finishing the work, we start the car and listen to the work of the engines. If extraneous noise is detected, the procedure will have to be repeated. By making repairs yourself, you can not only save a lot, but also get the experience that every motorist needs so much.
